Just got my $3,399 NIPT Bill

US Based.

Yay, low risk for genetic disorders and he's a boy. But geez I wasn't expecting it to cost so much. Not only have I hit my health insurance deductible for the year, but I am on a financial assistance plan with the healthcare system my OB is with. Hindsight I feel stupid, but I didn't realize the test was done by a third party vendor until I got the paper on how to see the results- after my blood was drawn. But hey, it labs, so if it's out of pocket, it would be a max of a couple hundred, right?

Not only is it a third party vendor, but it's an "out of network" provider. Meaning my insurance won't cover ANY of the cost.

I plan to talk to Natera (provider who did the test) to see about financial assistance and/or self pay discounts. But we had a plan to pay off all our debts and put more into savings before my due date, and if I have to pay this in full it will derail that plan.

I'm just so frustrated with myself because:

  1. The test was basically unnecessary for us, as we aren't high risk for anything. My last pregnancy was a MMC so this was mainly done for reassurance.

  2. I should have checked with my insurance first, granted any time I try to get a cost estimate with them they give me the same vague line of "well first it applies to your deductible, then x% of your coinsurance" and can never give me a direct number range.

  3. I'm sick of always feeling like any time I go to actually use my health insurance, that their main goal is to screw me over.

Ren Fair Rainy Day

Was planning to go the Renaissance Fair in Eminence tomorrow 7/11. The weather doesn't seem to be in our favor, but that is the only day we can go before it ends.

Does anyone know if they would potentially cancel from weather? Do they have indoor places we can seek shelter? If it gets too bad, can we seek refuge in our cars for a while and go back in?

And, if all else fails, does anyone know any cool places me and my four year old could go to dressed up as fairies lol

Any one catch a incompetent cervix before having a loss?

First baby was a pretty normal pregnancy, during delivery I had a pretty bad cervical laceration that required stiches.

Second baby was a missed miscarriage. Took three doses of miso to try and pass it, that didn't work. I had NO pain with the miso, which dilates you. Ended up having a D&C.

We are still trying.

I was jogging one day and the words "incompetent cervix" just popped in my head, so I did some research.

I have plenty of risk factors for it:

A Previous cervical laceration.

No pain with dilation.

A past cervical surgery (D&C).

If I get pregnant again, is it possible to tell my OB my concerns, and maybe catch my potential incompetent cervix without having to have a 2nd trimester loss?

Traveling Without my Kids

I am going to a wedding in Las Vegas later this year in October, and obviously this will be a kid free trip. My daughter, who will be 5 by then, has never been more than 24 hours away from me, and I'm a little anxious about leaving her behind. She will be in great hands while I am gone. The trip will be maybe 3/4 and a half days total.

It doesn't help that we are trying for another baby and there's a chance I will be pregnant by then. We have been trying for awhile, so pausing until after the wedding isn't ideal. I've had a previous 1st trimester lose before so I am also nervous about the ideal of flying/traveling while maybe pregnant.

Am I over thinking this? My daughter can be a little sensitive, how do I explain this trip to her without her feeling left out or left behind? It doesn't help that in September there is a 4 day music festival in our town we are going too, and I will see her at night and in the morning during that event, but these events being almost back to back makes me feel so bad.

Two Weeks into the Shutdown, how's it going?

As someone coming from Bullitt county:

Going to/from West- Fine (a little faster if anything)

Going to/from Downtown- Takes a little longer, but not too painful.

Going to/from East End- Holy how did that get worse than before.

Luckily I work in Newburg so my work commute is practically untouched by the shut down, although all the work on Preston is slightly annoying.

I feel bad for people that live in Old Louisville, Highlands, Shelby Park, or any of the other cut through neighborhoods, but I have been enjoying seeing all the side streets again.

Saw a semi with cars on it hit a stop light by UofL's campus, but no one stopped for it. I can only imagine the car on top that hit it had a nice dent though lol.

BV Confusion

31 YO female. Got pregnant Nov 2025. Started having green discharge on and off. Mentioned it to my OB, early January 2026 she does a swab test, everything negative, can't quit remember what for. She told me to proceed as normal, even though everything online told me green discharge in pregnancy was bad. Miscarried end of January.

Anyways, we are TTC again and, wanting to know more about my health, I did an online test with Evvy and it said I had Lacto-Dominant BV, but it was very mild with only 6% of my microbiome being disruptive bacteria. The only symptom is the occasionally green discharge when I wipe, and some odor after sex, sweating or a long day. The website wanted to charge me $139 to treat it (lol).

I got my results May 31st and did one boric acid suppository that night, as well as started women's probiotics. I could only do only suppository because that week started ovulation, and boric acid can kill sperm.

Sat June 6th I give in and went to an immediate care center. They swab me and tell me my results will be in 24-48 hours, but since I already tested positive with another swab, they gave me Metonidazole prescription to start.

Today, after already taking 4 out of the 20 doses, they call and tell me my swab was negative for BV, yeast and other STIs- and to stop the antibiotic.

I am not sure what to do, because I have heard before BV can go undetected on certain in office tests, and it can impact the ability to conceive, as well as problems if left untreated in pregnancy. Does my symptoms have to be really bad before it will be detected? Part of me is afraid that if I stop the antibiotics now, I will accidentally create antibiotic resistant bacteria- BUT both boric acid suppositories and Metonidazole are not recommended during pregnancy, (Metonidazole in the 1st trimester anyway) and I am in my lutueal phase (aka the two week wait).

IDK if I should still try to fix it or just be like "meh, the occasional funkiness is ok"

Lost Lambs: My Beef with this Book

For starters. I loved this book. The way she created a whole community of people you grew to understand and love for their uniqueness was magical.

But I have one major beef with this book. Through the whole book they go on and on about how powerful Alabaster is, and how tight his security system is. Shit, Wes was fired after a conversation he had off the clock (what a dummy for not taking the ear piece off before answering his phone).

Anyways, my beef is with how they all escaped towards the end. All 20 trafficked girls, plus Abigail, Harper, Louise, Wes and Marshall.

Alabaster and his goons completely disappeared after the incident, but you're telling me he couldn't take care of 5 misfit kids crashing his party and helping his victims escape? What did he just let them walk out? The fact there were even in the party for as long as they were before being discovered was crazy. It all feels like a major plot hole.

Also, the logistics of 25 people fitting into one pick up truck to leave is wild to me.

I know the details of that part don't really impact the overall message and vibe of the book, but it's always a peeve of mine when the climax/resolution feels rushed and kind of slobby.

Daughter denied Early Kindergarten- Not sure how to proceed

Cut off for Kindergarten is they have to be 5 by August 1st, her 5th birthday is the beginning of September. She's always been described as bright and smart by her daycare teachers and my peers, so I signed her up to be tested for Early Kindergarten admission.

Got a call today. She needed an 85 on both tests. She got an 84 on the Brigance (from my understanding, that's the academic side) and a 43 on the School Mental/Ability Assessment. I have no clue what was all tested in that category, and they can't give me the rubric/score guide of her results due to "copy right issues". Whatever.

I didn't want to push her for something she wasn't ready- so we will adjust. The problem is I don't know what to do next year. She's been in daycare since 6 weeks old (by necessity) and was in the same daycare until Summer 2025 when they closed unexpectedly. She's be in her current daycare since that time. The daycare took it upon themselves to place in her the preschool room when she started there a year ago. This is the highest classroom before school aged kids. I already talked to the daycare and she would stay in that classroom for the next year as well, meaning she would repeat the curriculum. It also sucks because a lot of her friends in that room will be leaving to start school.

My question is should I keep her at that daycare, or change it? If I was to change it I would find a daycare that has bussing to and from her future school, so she doesn't have to change again in the event she needs before/after school care (although with family support we were thinking we could manage without daycare once school started).

She scores too high academically for any of the county's public preschools, and I don't make enough to pay for private preschools. Daycare is about our only option.

Also, as a mom rant: She's been obsessed with her 5th birthday and wanting to start kindergarten, she's picked up on all of this from her peers who are excited about it. And now I'm worried she will be heart broken- both when I tell her she can't start until next year, and again in August when all of her friends leave the preschool room. I wish I had never even ask about early enrollment. I didn't tell her it was a test to get into school, but other family members let it slip to her.

Supervisor Won't Help Cover Anything

My office has been half - staffed for a few months now, it's really just me and one other girl (let's call her B) doing things.

Well today B called in sick (absolutely no shade to her). We do case management type work, so we schedule clients to come in and see use daily. Obviously, since this was an unexpected call out B's people need to be seen by someone else or rescheduled. I have my own appointments to tend too, but in the past we have managed to work things out when someone is out.

The second I walk in my supervisor aggressively greets me with "I'm going to need yall to start taking your work phones and agendas home so you can reschedule if you call out" I ask her can she not just call and tell them their appointments are cancelled, and that B will call to reschedule when she comes back and she said "I'm not doing that". To which I responded "isn't it a supervisor's job to cover things when someone calls out?" and she said "I'm not doing no appointment". I straight up told her I'm not carrying my work stuff to and from home daily just in the event I call out (which is, maybe, twice a year for a sick kid).

She has since sent B her appointments names and numbers to her so she can call and cancel them (keep in mind she's home on PTO). This information is readily available and maybe took her four minutes to collect, which is what I am assuming pissed her off the begin with.

She also sent an email to the team about how it's "mandatory" we take our stuff home daily and reschedule our clients if we call in (aka work if you are on PTO). And another one to me about being "respectful" and that me denying her request this morning was not ok.

I'm not taking my shit home. My job does not require me to be on call.

The most frustrating part is that B and I are good at our jobs, we care that work is done right, and we are "yes men" when it comes to doing extra things. So now that I am getting fed up, and saying no to things, it's seen as disrespectful.

Am I crazy here, but isn't it part of a supervisor's duty to help cover things when a staff member is out? She has already made it very clear then when we go on planned PTO vacations to make sure things are covered within the team, and that she isn't going to do it, which is weird but whatever. But to also not help when things happen unexpectedly? WTF.

Her solution is us carrying our agendas and work phones to and from work EVERY day instead of just taking ten minutes to call people to cancel appointments when someone calls out, or maybe do an hour long appointment with people if they do happen to show up.

I'm debating going to our big boss but then she'll be petty and weird to me for months. The irony is that her email to me about being respectful including a line stating "we all have to do our part!"
