What are some clean & tidy commuter towns or areas to consider with London jobs?

Currently living in west London and while there are so many nice things about the area, like access to parks and plenty of cafes and restaurants, I’m increasingly really bothered by the amount of litter, debris, dog and fox poo, vomit, glass etc etc that I have to dodge on a walk to anywhere, as well as the road noise. Has anyone moved within a max one hour commute of the City / London Bridge that is nicer and cleaner and fresher and calmer? The tricky thing is it absolutely needs to be somewhere with a diverse community.

Thanks!

What is with the blooming seagulls!

I moved from central London hoping to escape all the traffic noise, only to land in Ealing where the seagulls are soooooo loud! At sunset and dawn it’s a cacophony.

Why? What are they doing on so many houses?

Do residential streets get cleaned?

There’s constantly glass, litter etc on my street and I’ve lived in quite a few boroughs now but this is probably the worst a street I’ve lived on has been. I feel nervous every time my small child goes outside with me because I don’t know what state the road will be. The amount of glass in particular is excessive and I don’t know where it’s coming from.

Do residential streets ever get cleaned here? Genuinely wondering

UK petite friendly brands for summer linen and cotton blouses?

Starting to approach my wardrobe differently and buy fewer pieces but much higher quality especially when it comes to fabric. All the high street linen I’ve bought has been so rough and unpleasant to wear.

Are there any mid range brands that you recommend for small sizing? I’m 5’2” and 54kg, with narrow shoulders. Shirts, blouses and even T-shirts are tricky for me to get right as they’re always so broad and long.

Open to price points. I want to explore options, get one or two starter pieces and then look secondhand.

Thanks!

One week early to mid Oct with 2 year old. Where to go?

Don’t want to fly more than 3 hours from London. Not too keen on IKOS options and it’s outside budget. I’ve also travelled extensively in Greece and have family there. Open to AI or half board but somewhere where there’s either lots of beautiful nature (eg Dolomites are in consideration) or tons of culture and history to explore. But needs to be toddler friendly!

£300 per night roughly.

Any recs, would be grateful!

Fair olive with very dark hair, what colours work?

I have green/brown/hazel eyes (very green in the sunlight, more of a dark hazel otherwise) and nearly black hair. I’m very pale in the winter and I think I lean cool. I feel like I look quite good in cobalt blue. I keep trying new colours, like dark brown, and feeling so washed out or dull. I don’t feel like any neutrals are strong on me, maybe some greys and navy are ok.

Anyone with similar colouring? Any colours I should try wearing particularly in tops so I can look fresher and brighter? Don’t fit into the traditional colour seasons though generally feel I pull towards winter while incorporating some colours from bright spring

Itineraries for trip with toddler in mid October

We have been to Paris and I’ve been to Antibes. Any recommendations for where to go for a one week trip to France in mid October? We are coming from London, so preferably somewhere we can fly to directly (but not from Stansted as it’s too far, so ideally not Ryanair but flexible).

We don’t drink alcohol so we don’t have an interest in vineyards. We love beautiful nature and views, as well as interesting architecture. I was wondering if there were areas where we could enjoy the change of season and autumn colours.

With a toddler, it would be great to have a base and then be able to access different spots by car or train.

UK vets - risks for dog that sniffed / came across dead bat?

6 year old dog sniffed dead bad in London

I’ve rung a few vets to check if there are any risks and no one seems particularly concerned. Dog definitely sniffed a dead bat and can’t be certain she didn’t lick it. When I googled it, various pages said that there is still a concern for rabies related viruses specifically in bats in the U.K. (though the risk is low) so if she’s not up to date on her vaccine she might need a booster. Is that not the case?

Shop recs for petite tops and blouses in UK or Europe

I went into Sezane today and nothing felt wearable. I don’t shop at Zara, H&M group, Shein etc. I would describe my style as minimalist with pops of colour or a slight edge (eg colourful shoes or a bright top). For blouses I like fabrics that drape nicely as well as high quality long sleeve cotton T-shirts that pair well with flared jeans or wide legged linen trousers.

Does anyone recommend any brands or shops where I can find blouses and fitted tops that are simple but high quality and aren’t super long or have very long arms?

Bottoms for with low hips

I’m 5’1” and I feel like I look short or shorter than I am. My hips are about 36-37” and my waist is about 27” but the widest part of my hips is quite low, which makes it hard to wear trousers and look nice unless I’m wearing heels (I feel like I look good in flares, kick flares and tapered trousers if I’m wearing heels). But day to day I can’t wear heels when I’m walking the dog, popping to the shops etc.

Any advice? My go to is sometimes loosely draped wide leg trousers with a drawstring but I don’t love fabric touching the ground especially when the weather is bad and also they can look messy if they come undone.

Specifically looking for styles I should consider and well as fabric or even alterations I could get done

Best fruit in Ealing or nearby?

It’s my favourite time of year purely because of the fruit. Where are the best spots in the borough or nearby to get peaches, Pakistani mangoes, watermelon (ideally greek) etc?

Türkiye hotel recommendations?

Hoping to fly direct from LHR in October and exploring options for places to stay. Chose it as a destination because of the weather and food, but also considering Crete and Sicily. Have traveled in Greece and Italy extensively though, so wanted a change.

Looking at Yacht Classic Hotel in Fethiye for example, if anyone has been. We prefer smaller hotels with high quality amenities like nice pools, spa, restaurant on site (but no aqua parks pls). Also prefer to be walking distance from other restaurants.

We have a toddler. We like nature, views and exploring historical and cultural sites. We like character and charm, not into anything flashy. Recently went to Kasbah Bab Ourika in Morocco and absolutely loved it, in case that helps give an idea of our style of travel.

Any tips welcome!
