Wish we got more visuals with The Fall-Off
Now before i get jumped by all the 30 somethings saying "just listen to the music lil bro", i LOVE the album. I've been listening to it NON-STOP. But to me an album as a work of art is a little bit more than just the raw music itself (although that's obviously the most important part) if you really want to create something that truly feels alive, vibrant, and breathing, so I just wish we got more visuals. I really liked all the graphics with the the amber orange text on the black background, and i REALLY loved those posters from the MDL era saying "The Fall-Off is Inevitable" with the graphic of him falling.
I just really like this album (it's in my top 5 albums ever, idc, it's not recency bias, it's genuinely one of my favorite pieces of art), i just wish it's visual identity got fleshed out a little bit more.
Like, with FHD drive everything was drenched in this all encompassing, deep blue (think Apparently's music video, the deluxe cover for FHD, a lot of the lighting during the live performances). KOD has this really bright, vibrant thing going on with all of it's visuals, to the point it even seemed satirical with how over the top it was, and that really played into the concept well.
The Off-Season also had a blue thing going, similarly do FHD, but it felt much colder. It genuinely felt like working through the winter, grinding. The music videos also had this rawer vibe. Especially punchin' the clock and applyin' pressure.
I know Cole isn't a Tyler The Creator, or a Childish Gambino but i truly would have liked to see more visual stuff, because EVERYTHING we got in this album cycle was really pretty. I LOVE the album cover, i LOVE all the gold and black shit, i LOVE the back covers of the physical releases (both the CD and the Vinyl are SO sick).
The og album cover and it's back cover are both pictures Cole took when he was a teen, and the booklets and whatnot in the physical releases are all pictures of Fayettville Cole took in recent years, so it would have been cool to maybe see more pics his took during his childhood in the marketing or whatever.
Also, i'm far from the first person to say this, but the lack of music videos is also a bummer! I know Cole never did that many videos, but all the visuals accompanying MDL and it's rollout were hella cool. Hopefully with the upcoming tour we get some! Some of what i mentioned (stage design) has literally not been revealed yet lol.
