Model Y 2022 - Good buy?

I'm looking for my next EV. I want to get out of my usual PCP trap and get a bank loan to fund it. Budget around £19k I can get a 22 plate long range with 80k miles.

My only real concern are repairs needed out of warranty. Will be my first Tesla so not sure what goes wrong or to look out for.

Is this a good buy for my car for the next 6+ years?

Sanity check on this 0% PCP deal for an MG4 Urban vs. a 3-year lease vs. buying used?

I currently drive an MG4 which I bought used when it was 12 months old, and it has a personal bank loan against it. I likely overpaid at the time and with EV depreciation being what it is, I’m sitting on about £2,040 of negative equity (settlement is ~£15,340 and best trade-in offer is £13,300).

I typically prefer changing cars every 3 to 4 years to stay up-to-date with tech and battery improvements. On top of that, our family is expanding—we have a toddler and another baby on the way, so cabin/boot space is also on my mind.

I went back and forth with a dealer who came back with an offer that rolls my negative equity directly into the new agreement at 0% APR:

PCP Offer

  • Car: Brand new MG4 Urban Hatchback Premium Long Range (54kWh)
  • Term: 48 months @ 0% APR (8,000 miles/year)
  • Vehicle Price: £25,358 (discounted down from standard RRP)
  • Dealer/Trade-in Valuation: £13,000 (clearing the £15,340 loan balance; rolling the £2,340 difference into the agreement)
  • Manufacturer Deposit Contribution: £4,500
  • Monthly Payments: £296.72 / month (47 months, first payment £296.75)
  • Optional Final Payment (GMFV): £8,955
  • Extras thrown in: Free Supagard treatment + floor mats

The Options I’m Weighing Up

  1. Take the PCP and Voluntarily Terminate (VT) around Month 30–32: Because of the £4,500 deposit contribution counting toward the total amount payable, I’ll hit the legal 50% VT threshold around month 32 (or month 30 with just a small shortfall payment). This would let me swallow the negative equity at 0% interest and hand the keys back after ~2.5–3 years without worrying about residual EV value drops.
  2. Go for a 36-month PCH Lease at ~£300/month: A lease feels cleaner for a fixed 3-year term, but doing this means I’d have to sell my current car privately and immediately come up with ~£2,000+ in cash to clear the bank loan shortfall.
  3. Buy a Used Car instead: Given EV depreciation, would I be much better off looking at a 2–3 year old used EV or petrol estate/SUV to ride out the depreciation curve. I would realistically be looking at a car around the £13,000 - £15k mark (plus extra 2k to cover neggative equity)

Questions

  • Does taking a 48m PCP with the deliberate intention to VT at month 30–32 make better financial sense than taking a straight 3-year lease and swallowing the loan deficit upfront?
  • How has the MG4 held up for those of you with two very young kids (prams, rear-facing seats, luggage)? We do struggle occasionally now and have a roof box already.

What would you do in this situation?

Hi all,

I just wondered how long EDF took to setup your export tarriff?

My DNO supplied me with my export MPAN with the G99 Certification which I have emailed to EDF along with my MCS certificate with a request to be on the 15p tarrif.

Anyone aware on when I should export to be connected for export?

Cheers

Install was today, setup in self use mode.

Solar charged the battery up fine but it's being funny about discharging. Some periods it does, then it goes back to 0 for a while. I am on latest firmware for everything. Any ideas?
