Nature Taking Back Old Stamp Mill Site~
Stopped by to snag photos of one of the stamp mills, got a surprise building a little aways behind it as well! These are my top 20 favorite photos to choose from the first location, will post photos of the second building soon!
Decaying Tower~
Took these a few years back; apparently a few deaths have happened at the location, in which started the talk of the town to demolish the tower due to safety risks.
Mossy rock~
Was getting photos of my boyfriend during a walk one day, and loved how the moss was looking so I decided to get a close up of it!
Gone, but Not Forgotten~
Cedar County established a poor farm in 1871 in Iowa. The facility was later known as Cedar County Home & Asylum around 1920, eventually phasing out to become just a nursing home for the elderly in later years. Cedar County fully closed the doors of this facility by 2007, leaving the building to decay over the years. As time passed, weather related damages started occuring & vandalism, leading to the demolition of the poor farm in early 2024.
Derelict Earth Stations~
Built in the 1970s by AT&T, this location in Illinois is 1 out of the first 7 earth stations built in the US. Earth stations were the first commercial satellite communications network locations for long-distance calls & TV broadcasting. The structures were once giant, cement antennas that reached up to just over 95ft in diameter, weighing in 400 tons!
Defunct Juvenile Center~
Originally built as a vocational school for boys in 1911 after a law passed prohibiting minors to be locked up with adults in prisons. It became widely known as a juvenile discipline center for decades, then in 1978 a law passed that banned corporal punishment in all state juvenile institutions. The facility started a process with transferring the youth to other institutions around the area around 1993; the building eventually became completely vacant, leading to its despair.

Roman Catholic Church built in late 1800s~
Went down a rabbit hole about this town, and there's tons of lore about it!
Apparently the town was cursed by a priest, who was also ironically the original founder of the utopian commune. The church and other buildings were later built separately by the Salvatorians who took over the land after the priest's death. As the land developed, the grounds ran an orphanage at one point and had a seminary for decades. It then became known as JFK Prep for a little under 20 years before it was officially declared defunct in 1982.
Southern Travels~
Some of my favorite shots I got from my trip down south recently, didn't get to see as much as I planned due to the bad thunderstorms/tornado warnings on the way home. Enjoy!
