I wonder what Linkara opinion is on Tom McFarlane’s answer on what’s important in a comic art or story?

Like it should be noted that Todd McFarlane had a “box match” with Peter David

And then later, some beef with Neil Gaiman

It’s almost interesting that in a way he has outlived all of his you know, opponents or contractors

Sadly, Peter David died in 2025 and Neil Gaiman was revealed to be a sex pest, and he has been dropped by a lot of his publishers.

But Todd is still the head of image comics which recently they’ve been doing pretty well.

Obviously, there are cases where you could have something that is illustrated like Michelangelo and written like it was by Shakespeare.

But if we’re talking like the modern comics right now.

There are cases where the art sometimes looks different, like even with a different artist behind it

It would often follow the same in-house designs

Obviously, I’m going very broad and excluding examples where the art is not in house

[FOR HIRE] One Slot Available for DE or Coaching - Dystopia/Thriller/Horror+

My current DE schedule goes through July. I have one slot open for a new developmental editing or coaching client.

I'm out of reach for most hobby writers. This is for folks who already have momentum in their writing career or are working on high commercial viability projects.

My rate is .07/word for developmental editing.

I can go up 1 or 2 cents if it's a first draft with major structural problems. Multiple POV characters/Ensemble cast. Unreliable narrators or non-linear timelines. Genre complexity, author's experience level, crunch turn around time, etc.

My rate can go down 1 or 2 cents if it's a clean manuscript/has less severe issues to deal with. Experienced author. Repeat client. Short for its genre. Or the client has strategic partner potential.

Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror/Thriller/Dystopian/Cyberpunk/Samurai are all part of my main wheelhouse.

Have a read through my project criteria/fit here:

Look through the rest of the site for more info and contact information. (Message here or there.)

Thanks!

PSA - No Posts Looking for Artists - No Collaborations

This is the writer's subreddit.

Yes, there may be a handful of artists lurking in here, or writer/artists... but do you think they are ONLY in the comic writing reddit and not in any of the artist or comiccollab reddits?

Do you think artists actively seeking work have decided ONLY subbing to the comic writing reddit is the way to go. Sitting here watching us talk about pacing, dialogue, inciting incidents for months at a time, waiting to pounce on that one "Looking for artist for revenue share post?"

Come on.

Artists can promo their work here, because writers are frequently looking for artists... but if you're actually looking for an artist and none of the promos in the subreddit work for you, PLEASE post in another place.

SECONDLY, as rule 5 says, there is no collaborating bullshit here. No revenue share which is simply code word for "no pay." If you want to hire anyone from this sub, you are paying a fair wage. In rule 5, it breaks down the milestones for expected pay rates as a guide. These rates reflect writer rates, NOT artist rates, why? Because this is the writer's subreddit dummy.

Don't get me wrong.

Broke ass collaborations are great. They are a fundamental essence of artistic creation and learning what not to do when you're first starting out in indie comics. They just won't be found here, unless members do it directly in DM.

r/comicwriting is a viable place of authenticity. At least, that's the goal.

[FOR HIRE] - Writers! DON'T SOLICIT ARTISTS with unedited scripts!

Man I've been working on some killer projects this year.

One of my favorite things as an editor is sending back commentary on a script and getting back a revision that nails the edit with creativity and skill in a totally unexpected way. I really do fist pump and shout "yes!" when I see it.

I want you guys to succeed!!

I've seen a lot of people in this sub calling out for artists on their scripts recently, but man, you've got to make sure your script is bulletproof before you get artists on board.

The single biggest boost you can give your project is connecting with a good editor BEFORE you hire that artist. Don't leave your story potential on the table. Tap every single bit of it you can! That's how winning is done.

I do a cold read of your opening for $79.

$79 is the cheapest insurance you'll ever buy to make sure your book doesn't die a horrible death before it even gets published.

If you're not willing to cough up $79 to last minute check your script, folks, that's a big red flag you are - not- ready. Hit the breaks and thank me later.

Indie comics really is a marathon. Slow and steady takes it every time!

Story Support for Any Budget:

$0 - Just ask a question in the comments below and I'll do my best to personally help you.

$0 - NickMacari.com/writing-craft/ A bazillion free articles on comic writing.

$20 - buy one of my books on comic writing. Storycraft for creating your story. Writer's guide for executing script. The Genre Guide for delivering your genre work in spades! All in the StoryToScript store page.

$79 - COLD READ your first 10 pages.

$99 - STRATEGY AND ALL ACCESS - strategy consult and access to 150,000+ words of crazy useful tips over at Story To Script. Change the trajectory of your writing career by signing up on my site.

$129 - DISCOVERY AUDIT - I'll stress test the fundamentals of your outline to make sure you're moving forward on solid ground. You've got to spend about an hour or two breaking down your outline, but if you're trying to save money on an edit, while keeping your story on point, this is how you do it.

$250+ - Full SPA for your script.

Want the Jazz?

I can help you elevate your project to the next level and polish your writing with the following (This is not a normal editor thing. This is me directly adding my voice to your work.);

  • Dialogue Punch --- $10/page
  • Visual Direction --- $15/page

I don't cowrite, and I generally don't write for smaller indie budgets, BUT if you're looking to hire me to actually do some writing for you, my rates are as follows. (Please run through my inquiry page before contacting me, to make sure I'm a good fit.)

  • Full outline Your Concept --- $77/page
  • Script Your Story -- $100-160/page

Few of the comic projects I've worked on here.

This post will self destruct in 24 hours... give or take.

Battery Drain in 11 days

Second gen Xterra with 2025 Die Hard Gold Battery.

Didn't drive it for 11 days and the battery reads 1% charge.

My question is, what am I chasing/looking for that might be the culprit to drain the battery? Anyone know if this is a common thing for 2nd Gen X?

thanks

The future of indie comics is high-craftsmanship. Human craftsmanship.

The market will be flooded with AI created content in the future, but expertly crafted human stories will stand on top.

If you need help getting your story or script straight I got you covered whether you're rolling with a micro-budget or cashing out that fat 401k to finally make the book you've been dreaming of for years (no, don't actually cash out your 401k!).
