Finally got around to transferring out from Loblaws Pharmacy

I pretty much de-Loblawed myself last year, cancelled the credit card, spent all my points and cancelled my subscription.

I was holding onto the pharmacy because I quite liked the pharmacist that works there and I told myself it’s a step removed so it’s not really supporting Loblaws (it is, i was being dumb.)

After that ridiculous PC Health drone show I was incensed. Time came yesterday to refill a couple of my scripts and realized this is the perfect time to move to a more locally owned pharmacist.

It was very easy to transfer my prescriptions over for my partner and I, highly recommended.

Does anyone know if I have any recourse to have my personal information deleted from PC’s database? I’m a little unsure on the law surrounding that.

Running a portable generator in the back yard?

EDIT: Seems pretty unanimous! Getting it all set up now. Thanks all.

Been without power now for 26 hours now. We have a baby and we really need some juice to get the fridge up and running and fans and other comforts as the house is boiling.

Can I run a portable generator (until whenever the noise ordinance cut off is) tonight to resupply?

All I can find on Google is ESA laws around piping the generator to my mains (which I won’t be doing, I’d be using extension cords and plugging in things directly) and don’t want to get in trouble.

We were hanging on until 6pm which was the Toronto Hydro estimated fix, but for the past few hours it’s been changed to “ in review” and I can’t get a hold of anyone on chat or the phone (both eventually just disconnect)

Thank so much!

Friends birthday party, not feeling the strip club. Any suggestions?

EDIT: Found enough wisdom in the comments (once you filter out the expected judgy drivel) that I now have a game plan for the weekend. Thanks all who commented in good faith!

Original Comment:
A couple of friends are celebrating a milestone birthday and there’s around 10 of us that’ve booked a couple of rooms for 2 nights to celebrate. I’ve known these guys for a while, love them, but the occasional “degenerate” behaviour is a bit annoying, especially at our age. I would put money on that one of them will bring up the strip club on one of the nights, and depending on how drunk we all are the herd mentality kicks in for the rest of them. I seem to be the only one that doesn’t want to go.

This has happened before a couple of times (both bachelor parties.) the first time I just opted out, but then I just sat around at a bar waiting for them and they left forgetting about me and I missed the rest of the night which sucked.

So the second time I went and just sort of tried not to participate but the staff of course made me feel shitty for being there and not paying for dances. I paid for a couple dances for my friends which sort of helped but the whole thing felt awkward and I feel like I was being judged by my buddies for not stopping to their level. One friend bought a dance for me and was being goaded to do it but turned it down and it just felt like I was killing the vibe . Now everyone was hammered and by the next day I imagine it was forgotten about.

Reddit responses typically go to the extreme like “well if they don’t respect your opinion then they’re not your friends.” I mean maybe there’s a stroke of wisdom there, but it’s hard enough making friends at this age and the other 99.9% of the time everything is awesome with them.

Sometimes brining this type of stuff up can be awkward because though I’m able to share meaningful things with them, there’s a blind spot when it comes to women/strippers/whatever and I know they’d roll their eyes or get annoyed with my lack of participation.

Not looking to throw the baby out with the bath water, just hoping someone else may have been in my position before so I could get a few pointers in preparation.

Thanks!

I was approved for and have the Infinite Privilege card. My wife was looking at the perks and would like one too; I qualified because I satisfy the >400k assets criteria. However we’re in the same household so it’s not clear in the application if it’s meant to be 400k of her own assets; or household assets. Household assets seems to share all of the other benefits (perks, generation, tax, etc) so does it also apply to the credit card application?

She has another credit card she prefers to the standard Infinite card so would only apply if she qualifies for the privilege. Don’t want to get the privilege and then have it clawed back and have to deal with either closing the account (can affect credit score) or have an unused credit card open but not in use.

Any advice? Thank you.

EDIT: She’s does have >100k to take care of annual fee.

I just opened my wealth-rank for the first time and was pleasantly surprised with the number.

Not that it’s the be-all end-all of metrics but I’m just curious on if there’s any way to extract any meaning from the ranking. Of course it only counts WS clients, those with >$500, and doesn’t include other net-worth including home equity.

Is the feature just really for a bit of fun comparison? Or can I use the ranking in a way to know where I’m at compared to the general population?

My wife and I bought a house about a year ago and of course our financials have changed a lot compared to the rental life we were used to. Now enough time has passed and things have settled down, I’m hoping to calculate our CoastFIRE number. Our monthly spend has increased a lot due to the mortgage, utilities, tax etc but it’s very likely we’ll stay in this house until at least retirement.

We have 24 years of a mortgage left (around 660k), both in our mid 30’s and have a decent amount in our investment accounts (roughly 650k) and I also will have to repay my RRSP 60k HBP eventually. We also both have DB pensions (my earliest reduced is 55 and hers 61). HHI of $180k.

We’re 100% XEQT and happy with that. We may already be at our CoastFIRE number though might still choose to keep contributing to our TFSA’s and likely stop contributing to my RRSP altogether to avoid too high an income after CPP and RRSP withdrawals upon retirement.

My wife is also pregnant so it would be nice if I can take some extra unpaid parental leave if the numbers make sense to do so.

Any advice on how to get a grip on our numbers? Until now we’ve just been on the frugal + save train and it would be good to get a ballpark on what the future looks like with some calculations that take the whole picture into account, and maybe make some minor changes to our spending patterns where being frugal may not be worth the effort for certain things.

We have a studio in a location that is a bit far away from the central equipment room. The XLR run is probably 150 feet, but could be closer to 200. We are using Sennheiser MKE2 lav mics (condenser) and a pre-amp in the equipment room going to a Dante Stagebox. The preamp has the "high gain" switch active, and the pots are maxed. The signal still needs a healthy amount of gain on the audio board and with some quiet guests we're almost at our max.

We were considering adding something like a cloudlifter CL1 to the chain close to the Mic to boost the signal, but that does not on-pass phantom power. We'd ideally prefer to stick with the MKE2 as they are standard across our productions.

I was not responsible for the current setup, but have been asked to fix it. Any other elegant solutions that wouldn't break that bank? The cloudlifter was attractive as it has no knobs or settings to worry about getting knocked or reset after a power interruption.

EDIT: Pre-amp is a RME Octamic II.

Also adding that there are 3 bulkheads in the studio that are wired in parallel, so a mic can be plugged into any one depending on the needs of the production. Not sure if this adds a variable to the equation. I have made sure nothing is plugged into the other two bulkheads.
