Prior to the Dance, why wasn’t any consideration given to making Aemond a member of the Kingsguard?

Prior to the war he is very far down the line of succession, and also one of the most skilled fighters in Westeros. Why didn’t Viserys ever think to name him to the Kingsguard?

Night City’s official homicide rate is higher than the US military’s death rate in the Vietnam War.

Night City has an “official” homicide rate of 30 per day, or ~ 10,000+ per year.

The US Armed Forces had boots on the ground in Vietnam en masse from 1965-1973, resulting in the deaths of 58,279 US soldiers, or ~7,285 combat deaths per year.

The Night City homicide rate notably does not include:

  • deaths from gang violence

  • deaths from corporate conflicts

  • deaths caused by cyberpsycho rampages

  • civilian deaths caused by NCPD

  • deaths in Pacifica

  • deaths in Dogtown

  • deaths caused by NCPD subcontractors on bounties

Pretty wild to think what the real number is.

How does Cortana moving Zeta Halo from its original anchor point affect the rest of the array?

From my understanding the rings are setup so that there is overlap in their sterilizations ranges to cover the whole galaxy. Is there any indication that moving one would create a problem? Or is it bounded to only be able to move inside a certain range? Would the other rings / The Ark get alerted that one of the rings is now out of position?

Snape killing Dumbledore out of mercy is maybe the most impressive feat of magic committed in the series

We know that to cast the killing curse the caster needs to be a skilled wizard/watch, focused, and (usually) have genuine malice in their heart towards the intended victim. “You have to mean it.” Makes it a bit more terrifying how easily Voldemort was able to cast it with seemingly little effort, even non verbally.

Snape being able to cast it in an act of mercy is crazy. It’s antithetical to the curses standard use. The level of skill needed to do it towards someone you are that close with and not out of hate might surpass any other magical feat seen. Really just adds to the lore of how great of a wizard Snape was.

Just finished Gateway by Frederik Pohl, was interesting to see the where Ty / JSAC pulled some inspiration from.

I stumbled upon an old interview where Ty said they don’t borrow, they steal, and mostly steal from Fred Pohl. So that inspired me to track down a copy of Gateway and read it. Overall it was decent. You can clearly see the inspiration with humanity co-opting the technology of a long gone advanced alien race. Along with the unbelievable risks the prospectors took on the Heechee ships, just like the colonists through the ring gates took to brand new systems.

But my god is Rob Broadhead the fucking WOAT protagonist. First protagonist in a long time that I actively hated. He’s such a whiny asshole.

Just beat the game for the first time last night, got the star ending. Alt is terrifying and by herself justifies the existence of NetWatch.

Overall, very fun game. Didn’t play the DLC yet but will probably start that this weekend. Looking forward to the sequel.
