Just a little snippet from our upcoming 2D platformer, Croak!
If the art style seems even slightly familiar to you, that’s because a few of us on the dev team previously worked on Cuphead (and on Rick and Morty, in fact) - and the entirety of the game is hand-drawn frame by frame using traditional animation techniques.
We're a small indie studio based in Montreal, and this has been our passion project for the past half-decade.
At base level, Croak is a fast-paced 2D adventure platformer where you play a Frog Prince on his journey to save a kingdom - relying on nothing but his handy-dandy tongue and royal froggy resolve!
A few of us on the art team previously worked on Cuphead and on Rick and Morty, and the whole game is hand-drawn frame by frame using traditional animation techniques! Our main spiritual references - the styles and aesthetics that influenced us the most- are old Disney and Studio Ghibli, and our team loves the craft of moving images one frame at a time. This takes way longer than modern bone-rig animation, but the result is an, we believe, more immersive texture you can feel as soon as you start playing!
We have a demo out right now that shows off the first region of the game - a sprawling Swamp where the Witch is hosting a culinary carnival called the Feast Fair. It encompasses 5 levels including the Ferris Wheel Challenge with the signature Beaver bossfight as the final encounter! There are 11 Gold medals to find, plus one hidden high difficulty level if you 100% the entire demo. In fact, if you can get 100% completion - you will get a special role on our Discord server!

This game has been the thing everyone on the team has been pouring themselves into for five years, and getting it into players' hands has been the most rewarding part of the whole process. We're aiming to keep building toward the full release while staying close to the community giving us feedback through the demo.
Thank you and hope you enjoy what we’ve created!
I would never thought that 5 years ago starting to make a game would lead me to Brazil, meeting such incredible people! Still 2 days left at Gamescom Latam and I felt emotional this morning so I wanted to share how grateful I am of being part of such an incredible community! If you’re around São Paulo come see me to play Croak, the frog platformer 🐸✌️
Love 🫶
