Eye Gestures 1st Beta Impression

Disclaimer: I only tried the very first Eye Gestures beta version a few months ago, so this is just an early impression (the feature has improved quite a lot since then).

What I liked most was simply being able to keep my phone in my pocket and still scroll through Reddit/TikTok, move the cursor, click, and use swipe gestures.

There was a bit of a learning curve at first. I had to figure out where to place my hand and which angle tracked best, but after around 15 minutes it started to feel much more natural. At least for the first beta version it needs some effort to learn and it had not enough tutorial in the glasses display itself. I was learning it by reading beta testing manual and trial and error.

A touchscreen is still faster and more precise, of course, but that also means taking your phone out every time, or keep holding and staring it passthrough the glasses. When I’m lying down or already focused on the glasses, I’d much rather just use my hand and keep the phone in my pocket.

For me, this also helps bridge the gap between XR glasses and VR a little more. One thing VR does really well is letting you interact inside the experience without constantly reaching for another device. Having gesture control on XR glasses gives me a bit of that same feeling. But I'm not dare to use hand gesture outdoor where many people walk around. It will be more indoors or on plane.

One thing I really like about Xreal (esp. One Pro) is that I bought it with an expectation of a simple external screen, with 3DoF and that's all. But they keep shipping more features like hand tracking and REAL3D I could not imagine of.

Created a mod to add HUD UI padding to PC game!

Hi~ I created a mod that add HUD UI padding to Hogwarts Legacy on PC. This method supposes to work on all Unreal Engine games too!

See after vs before in the attached images (there are 2 images!). However, each game has different UI/HUD components so it cannot just work with any game out-of-box, but I can keep applying same method to other Unreal Engine games.

Why I made this?

  • I want to play games in Xreal One Pro (57 deg FOV), which the screen is super large and sometimes it is hard to see HUD UI near edge!
  • I can make screen small but it's not my favorite experience. Actually I want to make the game slightly overflow the glasses (eg. instead of 428" at 10m, I use 475" so that whole screen fills all side, and with some threshold to accommodate micro head movement)
  • As you may know, Xreal Aura has even higher FOV!! I'm prepared for that and want to be immersed on any games I play, without turning heads to each corner to look at HUD UI that seems too far away.
  • Not sure whether this would work with Aura nicely (sadly I don't own one to test it), but I made the padding configurable for higher FOV glasses (currently I apply only 5% real padding (red line) + 1% artificial pad/stretch (green line), can change to any value)

Let me know if you have comments or want mod for some games that I have (I need to own the game to know what GUI component to mod and how to move them around optimally)

Of course, I have cheap RGB strip (very long, many of them) to sync with my display color in real-time for even better immersive feeling. I will demo the light strip later (with how to)~!

Full SBS 3D Gen1Recomp on regular XR Glasses

Hi everyone, this week I saw many reels for Pokemon Gen1Recomp (it is to remake old game to be 3D), and I just want to take a step further and make it Full SBS, so that we all, XR glasses users can enjoy it in Native 3D easily.

The original opensource DramaticShapeVoxelMod supports only VR, but not simple 3D SBS format.

I further extended the mod and put it here to enable 3D Full Side-By-Side SBS for Pokemon Gen1Recomp, and expect it to work on phone too, as the mod is platform independent.

To use it, open the recomp and add this mod (remove the original one first). Then, in-game option > enable dramatic shape (full, 15, ..., 75, 3rd, 1st, all supported) + dramatic mod options... > SBS IPD (choose yours, anything that is not OFF) + (optional) NEAR PLANE to override scroll to zoom out limit.

Let me know if you find it useful~

-----

Developer Note (Spoiler): This is a just mini project aside from the main ScreenLab XR app which provides 3DoF + Side View + more (demo) to xbx and other glasses. The app will also have an interesting update soon: to use your phone camera to mimic 6DoF, even on old glasses like Xreal Air. There will be 2 mode: 1.Xreal Glasses Tracking (place the phone stationary on a table pointing its front cam to the glasses and it can detect your head movement in 6DoF), 2. World Tracking (just like Xreal Eye, the app use phone rear camera to detect world as you walk here is my demo, it can pin screen anywhere or even transform any wall into a screen, there are many use cases on this such as creating virtual world and you can walk inside as long as you hold your phone pointing camera anywhere as you walk)

xbx 3DoF & VR360 & Side View & More! [ScreenLab XR v1.0.9]

Hi everyone👋

Two days ago I got xbx and posted my first impression! As promised, I've supported 3DoF for xbx (screen anchoring, VR360, s/w smooth follow) on my ScreenLab XR app over the weekend.

It's available now in Play Store🎉*(public release v1.0.9)*.

  • From now you can easily get it directly from: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.northnroro.nroro_shader
  • Simply open the app, plug your xbx a01+ (or other glasses), and tap any 3DoF effect button & tap yes! (I will share how to tune it in the comment below)
  • You can switch to other apps while ScreenLab XR is running, and any effect is carried over~

Please see the demo video, no explanation is needed, but feel free to ask questions or leave feedback/idea~ I will keep enhancing the app just like before~

ScreenLab XR also supports Side View (resize/reposition), VR 360, and much more... you can explore them in ScreenLab XR discord server (link expired in 30 days).

Thanks for trying it out, and hope the app is useful to you all❤️

xbx a01+ First Impression (as One Pro owner)

Thanks XREAL for xbx a01+ as the prize from World Cup Prediction Challenge. I've just got the xbx last night, and here is my own opinion so far.

The first thing I noticed is the weight. It feels so light, enough for all-day wear and even lighter without the outer frame, although it looks quite unusual without the frame, the overall material is of good quality. The cable is very soft and neon playful color.

The built-in stabilization is genuinely useful, especially while walking. To compare, the One Pro feels more like a 3DoF anchored screen in 3D space moves smoothly returning to center, while the xbx feels similar smoothness but has less 3D space feeling during returning to center (but the screen is floating like 4m away in 3D anyway, just how it moves back feel less 3D, actually I'm not quite sure if it's accurate but I try my best to explain it because they are quite similar and practical). Anyway, I still prefer the One Pro's Smooth Follow because it feels more spatial and I'm used to it, but the xbx can achieve very close result, and is the only pair I know under $300 with stabilization this smooth built-in without the need of extra devices. (but make sure you check whether your device is supported... I think most are supported)

The OSD menu is simple, with color modes, HDR10, AI-HDR, and audio effects including Whisper Mode (that helps with audio leak, but I use sound tube mod anyway, still helpful if I want to keep it very light weight).

It lacks Side View and screen-size adjustment, but I use my ScreenLab XR app to resize and reposition the screen as wished, so I don't mind. I also miss REAL 3D and ultrawide, although both support half-SBS and full-SBS 3D. I want to emphasize it again: the One Pro built-in REAL 3D is really cool and I really love it. The only glasses that can play console games like Nintendo Switch in 3D (30fps), and REAL 3D 60fps is already in beta testing for quite a while.

Overall, existing One Pro owners may be better off upgrading to Aura. But for anyone without stabilized glasses, the xbx is a great go-to pair (or One Pro if you want to get most of XR features). Stabilization is an essential feature for me.

The tint is not very different from the One Pro, but there is no electrochromic dimming in xbx a01+. Instead it comes with a tinted frame and light blocker for better immersion. Interestingly, its design is well-planned to enable you to 3D print customized frame to fully express yourself.

I am also experimenting with a silver-lens look while wearing the xbx bare without the outer frame. I want to optimize its design while keep it feather-light for outdoor use esp. at night. These images are quick prototypes made with mirror stickers.

Which design looks best: top, middle, or bottom? Any suggestions are welcome before I finalize the design and 3D-print a proper version. Thank you!

Full SBS 3D Widescreen Hack (for SuperDepth3D PC Gaming, by u/nroro)

Hi all, I previously posted about getting Full SBS 3D working with SuperDepth3D + XREAL on PC, but some games were rendered horizontally squeezed.

The problem happens when the display is set to 3840×1080, but the game treats it as one normal 32:9 ultrawide image for its camera and layout. SuperDepth3D expects a 16:9 source before converting it into Full SBS, so the final image becomes squeezed.

Some games let you use 1920×1080 internally while still outputting Full SBS at 3840×1080, but games like Hogwarts Legacy force the game resolution to follow the display aspect ratio.

I have now finished a fix for this~~~!

It keeps the real output at 3840×1080, while making the game use 1920×1080 for its camera and aspect-ratio logic, so SuperDepth3D can produce a proper Full SBS image.

Download here:

https://github.com/Northnroro/ReshadeWidescreenHackByNroro

Just open the GitHub and download the those files.

Please watch video for basic installation and usage. More details are in the GitHub link.

This has been tested with Hogwarts Legacy DX12, but it may also work with other games that have the same Full SBS aspect-ratio problem. Some games like E33 work perfectly without mod as we can choose 1920x1080 even when the screen is 3840x1080.

I’m also the developer of ScreenLab XR on Android for XR glasses, formerly known as nroro Shader. It adds features such as screen resizing, visual effects, VR360 viewing, and more such as 3DoF Head-Controlled Mouse.

So this ReShade fix is another small project aimed at making PC and 3D gaming work better together~

Thanks, and please let me know if you run into any issues.

Full SBS 3D PC Gaming w/ SuperDepth3D getting squeezed image. (and I fixed it!!!)

Hi everyone, over last weekend I was trying to get Full SBS 3D working with SuperDepth3D + XREAL on PC, but some games were rendered horizontally squeezed.

This is because at 3840×1080 display, the game uses 32:9 for its camera/layout, while SuperDepth3D expects a 16:9 source before packing it into Full SBS.

I spent quite a while trying different approaches, but none worked. So I wrote a dedicated add-on for ReShade to fix this issue! (I'm also the dev of ScreenLab XR app:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Xreal/s/oKAXx1id0Y

https://www.reddit.com/r/Xreal/s/VzCGWyuqNq

formerly nroro Shader, providing VR360 and custom screen resize/reposition for XR glasses/etc.)

Some games like E33 can work in FSBS by default as we can choose the resolution to 1920×1080 while having FSBS XREAL at 3840×1080. However some games like Hogwarts Legacy do force the resolution to follow the same aspect ratio as the output display at 3840:1080 causing the squeezed image issue.

Playing in Half SBS would still work out-of-the-box but image quality of FSBS worth spending effort fixing it.

I'm happy to write a guide if many of you are also facing this. Let me know your game title having this similar issue.

Aura baseline lens tint at minimum shade?

It's great that Project Aura supports Android XR with full 6DoF. This opens up much more use cases with augmented experiences, like pinning screens and 3D objects in the real world instead of just floating displays.

One thing I'm really concern about is the baseline lens tint.

At the minimum shade setting, how transparent are the lenses? Is there still a noticeable tint like One Pro, or can they become nearly clear?

Personally, I'd love them to be as transparent as possible, especially for indoor and nighttime use. This will make AR in real world become more real.

In fact, "too tinted" is currently the only thing preventing me from wearing my XREAL One Pro all day. The baseline tint makes the real world feel dimmer and hard to see surroundings*. I don't mind if image is washed out a bit under sun* as I use it in shaded area anyway, and we still can turn electrochomic to dimmer level.

Wonder if we can eventually have a dimmable beam splitter, similar to how electrochromic glass changes its tint? Or even more exciting, per-pixel dimming, so only the areas behind virtual content become darker while the rest of the lens stays fully transparent. That seems like it could dramatically improve both contrast and everyday usability.

Has anyone tried Aura and noticed how transparent it gets?

Align any 3D SBS Video [ScreenLab XR] #FeedTheBeast

Hi everyone,

Have you ever encountered your Side-By-Side video misaligned or stretched?

My app ScreenLab XR can move each Side freely to align them using Stack1 or Stack2.

^ This is how I watch any SBS video even they do not fit properly. Thanks to u/No-Marsupial-9963 for suggesting me to try FeedTheBeast today. I use XR glasses for VR360 video as well.

What else would you use ScreenLab XR for? Please let me know your thoughts/feedbacks~❤️

VR360 for XREAL glasses! Try it now! [ScreenLab XR v0.6.1]

Hi everyone,

I'm proud to present VR360 video (and photo) viewer in ScreenLab XR v0.6.1 (formerly nroro Shader app).

Now, most XR glasses can watch VR video! Please check out the demo!

  • It supports XREAL Air 1 / Air 2 / Air 2 Pro / Ultra / One / One Pro / 1s and others
  • Multiple VR format supported: YouTubeEAC, EAC360, EAC180, Fisheye, photo, and more!
  • Support SBS input/output
  • Support mono input/output <-- this is super cool when paired with REAL3D!! Any mono VR360 can become 3D world, not just a flat spherical view. I really want to see this running on Aura 70° FOV at 60fps.

Remarks:

  • YouTube app forces interactive 3D control instead of raw 3D file, so you may want to use NewPipe to view it. (Without ScreenLab, the video may look like a distorted fisheye image. But when viewed through ScreenLab on XR glasses, it becomes a VR 3D view with head rotation support.)
  • Example of YoutubeEAC (VR Algorithm 0) is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tR8ZtyhSDYw (top-bottom panorama strip)
  • Example of Equirectangular360 (VR Algorithm 1) is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQKpQiDq3sk (oval curvy fisheye distortion)

Parameters:

  • Input SBS Dual -> please set to 0 if input is mono eye (eg. above YouTube video), or 1 if input is SBS
  • Input Zoom Level -> on my S24u + XOP combination, the optimal value is 1.220. If you see black strip, try increasing the value. If you see overlapping world, try decreasing the value.
  • Output SBS Dual -> 0 if you want to use it with REAL3D or non-3D, and 1 if you want Half/Full SBS mode
  • VR Algorithm -> 0=YoutubeEAC, 1=Equirectangular360, etc. Feel free to raise a request if you want more!

FAQ: If your glasses gyro direction feels wrong, please check my other post about tuning the gyro axis mapping.

Please help to try and provide your feedback~❤️

I'd also love to know:

  • What VR videos will you be watching?
  • Where do you usually get VR360 content?
  • What VR formats or other features should ScreenLab XR support next?

3 DoF Anchor/Follow on Xreal Air 1/2/Ultra/etc. (ScreenLab XR v0.6.0)

Hi everyone👋

It's a big step! ScreenLab XR (formerly nroro Shader) can now support 3 DoF stabilization!

[ How to use ]

  1. Download and open the app, connect the glasses
  2. Tap Anchor or Follow (under 3 DoF (experimental) category), allow screen casting to the glasses
  3. Try turning your head, and you may tap Anchor or Follow again to adjust parameters, or explore other features and mix them.

By right, Xreal One Series should work with default settings (I only tested with my One Pro. I don't have other devices). For other models/brands, they may need further "Sensor Mapping" (Tap gear button next to 3 DoF category > Sensor Mapping) and follow the tuning guide in the comment.

Let me know your thoughts! This is the first public version for 3 DoF, and I will keep improving it, and also support VR360 video and more!!

Please also help to comment your glasses model, and your tuning settings/mapping that make it works, so that others with same model can follow yours!

Thanks for trying it out, and hope the app is useful❤️

Hi everyone, long time no see~

I'm the dev of the nroro Shader app (renamed to ScreenLab XR), having been researching glasses gyro sensor in a past month, also integrating sensor of most models/brands to the app. The demo video shows current work so far!

I'm planning to add 3DoF capability to the app, allowing it to have screen anchoring mode, follow mode, VR space, multi window (incoporate with Portrait effect), vr180/360 video, and more. Only need capable Android phone with the app, no extra device needed.

Last month I developed head-controlled mouse cursor and it was just an appetizer to read sensor values. The real goal is actually this 3DoF feature!

Currently its public version in Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.northnroro.nroro\_shader does not have this feature yet, because I only tested it on my device "Xreal One Pro" and it works fine, but I'm unable to test on other devices (Air og, Air 2/Ultra, and other brands) as I don't have those devices.

Now in close testing beta version it supports head-controlled mouse for most brands/models, and I need testers to confirm it. Also for 3DoF I need testers as well. Please DM me if you're keen to help beta testing for head-controlled mouse and 3DoF feature. I will send you an instruction to join beta group, and guide to get beta version from Play Store. Any glasses/brands are welcome.

I capture REAL 3D for you — Just see it with your own eyes [Half SBS format]

I took **a real video of how REAL 3D** looks through the glasses. No explanation needed — just see it yourself.

**To view it properly:**

- Switch to "Half SBS" mode on your glasses

- You may need to watch in fullscreen, and rotate your device to landscape!

**Disclaimer:**

- My video quality is bad. I'm so sorry!

- This is Half SBS, not as good as Full SBS

- Reddit compresses video. Moreover I used several free mobile apps to put it side-by-side manually, fps/quality limit was applied.

- This is recorded from beta firmware in Xreal One Pro, not official firmware

- Last but most important, I just aimed phone camera on the lens so quality won’t be good. I tried my best🥲 — but hope you’ll still get the idea

To keep it short, this review ends here!
