Fretless L-2000

Here's the result. That's it, that's my dream bass, my animal spirit bass, my elemental force, forever BASS. I want to thank you guys for the advices. The inserts are ebony. I also slimmed the neck to 40mm at the nut, and put BEAD pressurewounds. A little demo coming in the next week's.

Truss rod nut

I used to wake up at night trembling and sweating at the idea I could ruin the truss rod nut of my powerful, highly sexual l-2000. On these tributes the nut is misplaced, hardly accessible at all. So I milled the wood a little, and I ordered the best Allen key, very precise and adapted to already damaged holes. It worked very well. Now I can sleep like a baby again ;)

Fretless bass fingerboard: CA glue or tru oil?

I will soon convert my l-2000 into fretless, and I'm studying all the possibilities. I want to avoid epoxy, I'd prefer some natural wood sound, BUT I also want it to be hard enough and last a while. The fingerboard is jatoba (apparently slightly harder than rosewood) , and I'll insert ebony in the fret slots.

It seems my best option is thin layers of CA glue. Has anyone done it? Is true oil a better alternative? I'd be grateful if some generous folks could enlighten me

L-2000 : I'm going to make it fretless

I'm thinking ebony veneer for the fret slots and the reference points (dunno the English name). I have a few questions:

-is there a recommended way to remove the "reference points"?

-i've heard some ppl put some epoxy on the whole fingerboard cause the strings eat the wood pretty quickly. Any opinion or experience on that (I don't think I'll do it but why not) ?

I'd appreciate any feedback, thank you good people.

Bass guitar with powerful synth-like treatment

Noob here, only few days in logic pro. Could you gentlemen give me some general directions as to how to make my bass (a nice g&l l2000) sound more synth-like? I've seen some synth-bass pedals doing a good job, but in logic I don't know how to proceed. Things I tried sound weak and lame.

As an example, there's this "thick funk" sound in alchemy's keyboard bass library.

I know I can only approach it with a bass guitar, however I'd really appreciate some inputs on this matter. Cheers!

Split midi keyboard

Edit: solved Hello everyone, I'm new to logic (literally yesterday), and what a demoralizing nightmare it is :) So I'd like to split my midi keyboard in two, with a different library for each hand. Sounds simple, yet here I am. I'd be grateful if someone could take a minute to explain. Thanks!

How complicated is it to build a bass neck?

I have this G&L l-2000 tribute Indonesia, Wich I love and play all the time. But I used to play fretless long ago, and I miss it. I'm in France, and it's difficult to get g&l parts here. So I was thinking about building a fretless neck. I have a general idea of the thing, I have some tools and knowledge, nothing crazy tho. Also I'm not exactly rich :)

Please convince me it's a bad idea /above my means

Help me identifying some effect

Right at the beginning, I guess it's bass+ synth , I'd be grateful if someone could help me identify what's going on. Any hope in doing something similar with a bass?

First neck reset

Dear Lutherans, I'm doing my first neck reset on my old Norman st-68 . That's a Canadian dreadnought from late 90's, I believe.

I plan on defretting, and leveling the fretboard too. I'm thinking about remaking the finish too. How much of a pain is it? Oh and I was wondering about the fretboard 's radius: can I accentuate it? Is there a reason folk guitars are flatter than electric one? So much questions! Any advice welcome, feel free to discuss

Refret or sanding?

Stratocaster MIJ 1994, do you think those frets have one more sanding in them? Thanks for your help

Probably the most humbling and soulful bass solo I've ever heard. A true monster

It's at 30:25 the bassist is Jean-Marc Jaffet, with Sylvain Luc and André Ceccarelli. It's great to learn too. Please feel free to share your thoughts and own inspirations ;>

Glitter paint

I come from r/guitar, with a question: does anyone here master the glitter flakes paint? I want to refinish a guitar in this fashion. Pretty hard to find good material about it. It seems to be quite difficult.

GOOD glitter paint

How does one achieve a good glitter finish like on this strat? There are surprisingly little ressources about it on the webs. And most diy tutos have very bad results imo.

Rec with that type of playing

Hello, could you please fine people recommend me bands/bassists etc.. with the kind of playing in the first segment of this video?

I love it and I want to learn more.

Modding my old yamaha

Hi everyone, new to reddit, my very first post + not native English speaker, so be patient with me pls :)

So I have this old cheap Yamaha PJ bass with a decent neck that I began transforming. I've almost finished remodelling the body (can't post pics apparently, maybe in the comments?) and I've been reading through Reddit posts and other sources like a maniac to find what pickups I want to put in there.

For context I used to play a lot in the past, I have a reasonable playing dexterity, but I always was illiterate on the tech level. I'm trying to correct that now.

So far I think I belong to the humbuckers world. What catched my ears are things like stingray, kiloton, G&L l1000/l2000, that kind of warm, powerful sound.

Unfortunately it seems I'm late to the party because g&l closed, and living in France, it seems almost impossible to put my hands on those MFD humbuckers that I want so badly.

So my question is: can you please folks advise me what humbuckers I can get to get close to that stuff I mentioned?

Also, big thanks for all the info I've found here, leading me to this very post.
