The Fall of the Jet-Set Dancefloor: What the Cercle Crisis Teaches Us

For a decade, Cercle was the undisputed poster child of electronic music’s cinematic age. They gave us breathtaking, pristine imagery: Carl Cox at a French château, Ben Klock at the Eiffel Tower, FKJ on the Bolivian salt flats. We recently had the pleasure of experiencing In the Brain, the latest full-length work by Hofesh Shechter’s junior company, Shechter II, at the Théâtre de la Ville (Les Abbesses). It was a raw, electrifying dive into movement and rhythm that successfully bridged the gap between the intensity of a rave and the focused artistry of the stage.
