Has anyone worked there before? I need to vent. If you have a horror story from them, I’d love to hear it right now.

I was hired there, and everyone seemed so nice. I was genuinely so excited. I was respectful to my trainer by always listening to what she was training me, unlike the woman hired at the same time. Seriously. There was one day the trainer would pick up a product, say what it is, say what it does, say how to use it. This other woman would grab it out of her hand and say “what is this for????? What does it do??????”. The trainer JUST explained it. One day it was so bad, this happened 3 times within 20 minutes, slowing down the process.

She was frustrated bc this had been happening all week at this point. That woman also made a rude remark about her weight, too, for whatever reason. Then she (the trainer) said how every time I had a question, the other woman would interrupt and ramble over me. I told her I appreciate her noticing, because every single time I’m in a paired setting with someone like that, jobs incorrectly assumed I’m “not interested”, just because I’m quiet. It NEVER fails.

I updated my yearly eye exam for this job. I ordered a magnifying glasses headset for this job, after I saw two other technicians use them. It helped me out a lot! I’m glad to know they exist, bc when I was in school we had to have our face in the steamer/magnifier doing lashes the whole time 😅

Then things got weird….. fast.

Every single time a person I knew who wanted to be my model called, they were told I didn’t work there. Then they said “you can book with (other person hired 2 months ago) instead”. One of my people finally successfully made an appointment, but it was canceled. This was from DAY ONE…. so it’s not like they saw something horrible and didn’t want me working on anybody.

The other woman hired with me? ZERO issues being scheduled models back to back to back from day 1. Her schedule looked like a seasoned employee FROM THE START. While people I knew were being told I didn’t work there/they had the wrong center.

I worked on 3 models that the studio scheduled. I have no idea why MY PEOPLE were denied over and over and told “she doesn’t work here, there is nobody by that name”.

This center is launching facials and waxing in September. The main manager told me if my “vision is a hindrance”, I could take on the facials and waxing appointments that “none” of the other girls want to do. I told her that works, but I feel a lot more confident with the headset just like the two master technicians use, and I’m getting quicker at it. I had ZERO lash training before this, and they were well aware of it during my two interviews. I told them I’d rather learn the right way, than pay thousands of dollars to potentially learn bad habits.

Then I was down to 2 hours a WEEK by my 3rd model. Then I was told “you don’t have to come in!” my following scheduled days… and was told told to “keep practicing on your mannequin head” when I never got one.

I continued to reach out and ask about shadowing/training. Silence. I knew what was coming.

Then at 9:30 at night, a week later, I got an email from the main manager, citing “concerns” about my vision and “lack of progress in skills”.

How am I supposed to get better when I’m constantly told TO NOT COME IN? How am I supposed to get more skills, and show off my progress when my hopeful models are told I DONT WORK THERE? Even on model day, they were all told I wasn’t there.

Meanwhile, again, the other woman hired with me constantly had “continuing training” on her schedule….. so why was it okay for HER to “not progress in skills quick enough” but not me? There’s also nonstop customer complaints in the guest notes about her services, her beside manner, etc IN THE NOTES EVERYONE gets a notification about, but that’s okay to keep, and I’m the one terminated????

I’m genuinely hurt about this. I was so excited. I’ve been out of the esthetics field since 2020. I’ve missed it so much. I’ve been in the restaurant industry since 2020, and I cannot wait to leave forever. The people at this ALS flaunted about how nice everyone was, “we celebrate each other’s birthdays”, etc etc. The woman who told me to “stay home and practice on your mannequin” was promoted to center coordinator from receptionist. She had remembered me from March when i inquired about hiring estheticians again in june, and that felt so nice to me.

My trainer was fantastic. She was extremely thorough and organized and timely. The way she worked reminded me of myself, and I was receptive to her knowledge because it felt aligned with the way I think and process new information.

I had one lash set with the master trainer, and she was super nice also. She had some new techniques of her own that I learned, and she can do lash sets in under an hour.

I genuinely wish I knew what ACTUALLY happened for them to not like me, and get me out of there. I cannot repeat enough, how can I gain skills and improve if I’m told don’t come in/tell people I don’t work there. Again, person hired with me ALREADY has nonstop complaints and continuing training days, while I was directly terminated over my vision and “lack of progress”.

I wasn’t given a fighting chance from the start.

And yes I know, some people are gonna ask why I’m hurt about it if they’re this shady. I just am. I’m so miserable in the restaurant industry, and I’m having a horrible time re-entering esthetics. I was SO CLOSE, and now I’m not. I need time to process this & wonder what’s wrong with me.

In 2015 I was in beauty school, and somehow someone left a RED hi light marker on my desk assuming it was mine. Nobody in class claimed it.

I tested it in the textbook. It indeed was a legit red highlighter. You could see through it perfectly, and it was RED.

Unfortunately, that very marker has been in storage for years now. I cannot remember the name brand. I also cannot get to it because it’s far away, and even if I could I’m pretty sure I would have to dig through it. This is one of those situations where I’ll be able to find it when I get my own house again.

Every time I have repurchased a “red” it’s always been borderline orange, magenta, rust, muddy pink colored.

Can anybody help me find a true red hilighter marker??

Where can I get a rabies vaccine for myself hopefully at no cost? A couple of weeks ago, I got bit a few inches above my ankle by something. I thought it was a mosquito, but it stopped me bc it hurt and itched immediately. Best way to describe it was like a rubber band snap & itching. Tonight I feel the same feeling on my left shoulder. Same intense pain and itching. Tonight I did see a bat fly overhead near a streetlight when I was walking. Has anyone here got one? Would I need to call out of work for side effects? What are the chances it was a bat and I didn’t see them on me?

Just asking my Maryland estheticians how are the domestic violence awareness certifications?

I’ve been putting it off for my own personal reasons I have yet to face… 🫠 please tell me ALL about it. I need to enroll in the continuing education and domestic violence/trafficking awareness courses soon. I genuinely don’t want to do this. Is it going to bring up feelings I have shoved down through the years? Is it more on the informative/educational side? Does the certification go by quickly?

I cannot believe we’re on the same level as mandated reporters now. I get it, but wow, I am not equipped for this responsibility.

I got a notification saying use code EXPRESS for free express delivery. It says it’s invalid 🫠 I’ve played around with my delivery options, and it constantly says the promo code is invalid. I wish I took a screenshot of the notification but I didn’t. Was it on a time limit or something?

I’m here to rant about how when someone pays a percentage with cash, or a group pays down a bill, TOAST WILL SUBTRACT THE TIP SCREEN DOWN TO NOTHING! someone had a high bill last night, paid with cash, and only wanted to put $15 on his card. I got an awful tip because the tip screen reflects a tip based on that $15 balance owed, instead of the original percentages. Why haven’t they fixed this?!?! same with a group setting. “My friend will tip” over and over, and then the last person to pay will end up tipping nothing compared to what I should have got in the least. Yes there is a “custom tip” button but people are not going to do that. I have had a few “wait, what?!?” moments from some amazing people who questioned “why is it so low?”, but they are not the majority. Especially the last person purposefully stalling on “I can’t find my debit card”, then the group decided they’re the one responsible for tipping, instead of just doing it individually.

Editing to add: WHILE WE ARE AT IT TOAST….. please also fix when a card gets declined for not the full amount. I have so many people transfer money and they “forget” to include the tip amount. It gets denied. they get confused when we fix it because “well I tipped”. No you didn’t. The denied amount covered the BILL, not your tip. If the card declines, START THE PROCESS OVER!!!!! Stop accepting whatever amount is in there.

First I want to say whatever your religious views, or non religious views are, let’s all respect each other. Please. This is the life I want to live, and I want to stand my ground with it.

I did a few interviews and got hired at EWC. I told them in the interview yesterday I have religious restrictions with male clientele, and what could they do to accommodate that, would it big a big issue, etc. I told them I can bring in male clientele that I am close to/related to, I even said I am happy to service (actual) trans-women, like with facial waxing/legs/chest/etc. because they are women. If you live your life as a woman in this cruel world, I’ll service you.

Was told they are hiring me yesterday. Today they sent a rejection email saying other people are “better qualified”. The manager who was SO NICE all week is suddenly cold, one word responses after ignoring my text earlier, told me (by voice) it WAS because I “did not want” (🙄) to have male clientele. I asked for the HR department contact information since she was the one that rescinded the offer. she acted like I was bothering her. On hold for 10 minutes and got an email address for the HR/first person who interviewed me & told her to go ahead with hiring/she approved of me too.

Is this a legal thing to do? If I contact the district manager by email, would they even reply or explain it in an email? I didn’t think this was legal to do 🫤. They told me “there was high chance you would be the only waxer on, and we can’t deny the men guests that we have”. Since when does any EWC only schedule one waxer? I assumed it would be ME losing money, and basically letting more clientele get scheduled with the other employees, and I was totally fine with that.

I’m guessing they’re doing this to trauma survivors, too? That is wild.

I’m so fed up with life. I’m trying so hard to get back into the esthetics world, and it isn’t happening. And no I cannot afford my own suite since I lost all my clientele since 2020

Edit: it’s wild this post has been up for a few days and it’s NOW attracting bigotry and hateful comments 🙄 I have met NUMEROUS people including EWC employees who don’t wax men. Met one EWC that don’t wax women Brazilians. Somehow that’s fine!!!! 🙄
