[SOTC] After many years of collecting, I am going down to only three

I have been collecting watches for many years and owned more watches than I honestly needed. I kept buying, selling, changing rotations and trying to give every watch a purpose. Office watch, home watch, weekend watch, travel watch etc. In the end I was spending more time thinking about watches than actually enjoying them.

So I decided to sell everything and keep only three.
The Patek 5205G will be my normal daily and office watch. It is comfortable, low key and I can read the calendar much easier than my 5396.

The Day-Date Meteorite will be for special occasions, important meetings, weddings and anniversary etc. I love the DD but honestly the weight becomes tiring if I wear it the whole day, so no point forcing it to be my daily watch.

The Explorer II Polar will be for travel, holidays and anything where I don’t want to worry too much.

So that’s it. 5205 for normal life, DD for special occasions and Explorer II for travel. Hopefully this time I will stick to it 😂

These are the watches I am selling:

Patek Philippe 5396G
A. Lange & Söhne Odysseus in white gold
Rolex GMT-Master II Pepsi
Rolex Daytona Panda
Rolex Daytona black dial
Rolex Submariner Starbucks
Rolex Datejust mint green
Rolex Datejust silver dial
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph Panda
Omega Speedmaster (Omani **Khanjar emblem engraved on the case back only 200 made)**

Cartier Tank

The most difficult one to sell will be the 5396 because I really love that watch, but keeping the 5396 and 5205 together will put me back in the same situation again.

If anyone is genuinely interested in any of them, message me privately and I can share the full details, condition and asking price.

My Porsche 911 and my Rolex Day-Date

I’ve been into watches and cars for years, and one thing I’ve noticed is that I always end up back with my Porsche 911 and my Rolex Day-Date.

What I like about these two is the balance. They have the luxury, the history, the status, the comfort and, above all, the versatility.

I can drive the 911 to work, on a road trip, or out for dinner, and it never feels out of place. The same goes for the Day-Date. It works just as well with a suit, or jeans. I never have to think twice.

They’re both built to be used, not just admired.
I never feel like I’m compromising when I wear the Day-Date or drive the 911. They simply do everything I need them to do.

Maybe that’s why they’ve stayed with me while so many other watches and cars have come and gone.
To me, that’s what real luxury is: finding something so complete that you stop chasing the next thing and simply enjoy to the maximum in all aspect what you already have.

[Discussion] One Watch Collection

I never believed in the idea of a “one-watch collection.”

As a collector, I thought it was impossible. Different watches for different moods, occasions, seasons, and outfits. That was always my mindset.

Then I got the Day-Date.

Want versatility? The Day-Date.

Want comfort? The Day-Date.

Want to dress up? The Day-Date.

Want to dress down? The Day-Date.

Want presence in the boardroom? The Day-Date.

Want wow factor? The Day-Date.

Want scarcity? The Day-Date.

Want a grab-and-go watch? The Day-Date.

Want go anywhere do anything ? Day Date

Want to swim or shower without worrying? The Day-Date.

Want compliments from watch enthusiasts and non-watch enthusiasts alike? The Day-Date.

The funny thing is, I own watches that are arguably more complicated, more collectible, and more admired by enthusiasts.

Yet whenever I start thinking about rotation systems, home watches, travel watches, weekend watches, or which watch should get more wrist time, I somehow end up back at the Day-Date.

I can safely say, the Rolex Day Date is the ultimate one watch grail watch and nothing else comes close

Hublot+Nico

Nico spends more time marketing Hublot than Hublot’s own marketing department . Every second video is “how horrible Hublot is”, meanwhile they still sit comfortably in the top 10 worldwide in sales

At this point, Nico should probably start asking them for commission. 😁😁😁

Why the Day-Date Meteorite Ruined All Other DDs for Me

Not because it’s the loudest or most expensive, but because every single dial is unique. White gold keeps it low key, while the meteorite dial gives it that crazy character and depth under different lighting. Photos honestly don’t do it justice.

My Second Patek

I think I got the bug, this is my second one and I love it. If you know you know

u/phdwatch — 3 months ago

Surprisingly, my Patek Philippe Annual Calendar 5205G-017 is becoming one of my easiest daily watches. Very light, useful day/date/month complication, works with both formal and casual clothes, and most importantly very under the radar compared to my Rolex sports watches.

Of course I won’t wear it for gym/travel rough use, but for normal office, meetings, dinners, and daily life, it’s proving far more practical than I expected.
