Trouble concentrating?

Anyone have extreme trouble concentrating? I’m in a very grey area because it seems like I’m lazy but at the same time I’m pretty sure my meds mess up with my focus? I honestly don’t remember how good I was before I started my meds so I don’t have anything to compare it with.

The cons are that I don’t get enough work done at work now it’s a Sunday and I need to put in at least a few hours to catch up on things.

Starting a side hustle

Wanting to get into starting a side hustle. Having passive income flowing in would be great. Getting my feet wet by publishing apps I think is a good way to start?

Never done it before. I expect my first app to make zero (which I’m okay with) but I do expect to learn something when it comes to entrepreneurship (hopefully)

If I keep on doing it I know I will get better. Pretty excited about it honestly.

I see myself failing before even starting

When I want to do something like read a math textbook, I can already picture myself struggling to get through one paragraph, let alone actually understanding it.

I see the negatives ten miles down the line before I’ve even begun, and that puts this weight on my shoulders. But I think the reason I do it is that if I do fail, I won’t be surprised…I already expected it.

Right now I need to work, and I’m already seeing myself fail before I’ve started.

My chi with severe IVDD

I recently took in a 12 year 9 month old dog who was in pretty bad shape. An emergency vet diagnosed him with severe IVDD, started him on daily anti inflammatory and pain medications, and mentioned euthanasia as something to consider. Hearing that has been really difficult.

I’ve only had him for 2 days, so I’ve been documenting everything when he whines, eats, drinks, goes to the bathroom, sleeps, and moves around. He walks very little, mostly on his front legs, and I’m adding rugs and traction mats to make getting around easier. With the medication, he still whines every 2–4 hours, although he sleeps quietly once he’s settled.

I’m taking him to my regular vet in a few days for a quality of life assessment, but I’m struggling with one question.

If the vet says he’ll likely need pain medication for the rest of his life, how do you know whether you’re giving them a comfortable life versus simply masking the problem? Two days (or even a week) doesn’t feel like enough time to make a euthanasia decision, especially if he’s still adjusting.

For those who have cared for dogs with severe IVDD or other chronic conditions, how did you know when your dog had adapted to their “new normal” versus when their quality of life truly wasn’t there anymore?

How did you learn to read repo’s?

I’m working with Python, and I’m having a really hard time understanding existing repos.

To me, larger projects feel like complex graphs where everything is interconnected and woven together. One file imports another, functions call other functions, classes depend on other classes, and it quickly becomes overwhelming.

The fact that I’m still struggling to read the code itself makes it even harder.

How do experienced developers break down a repo or project when they’re new to it? Where do you usually start? Do you trace the entry point? Read the tests? Look at the folder structure? Run the project first?

Also, if you want to add a feature or make a change to an existing project, how do you approach that without getting lost? How do you figure out what needs to be changed, and how do you test that your change didn’t break anything?

What’s the overall consensus on being an ai engineer?

I watched a few recent graduation commencement videos where speakers were booed when they mentioned anything related to AI.

That made me wonder: do a lot of new CS grads dislike AI? Is becoming an AI engineer seen as undesirable or looked down upon now?

Or would landing an ai engineering role right out of college be the goal?

How easy is it to return something?

Feel like an idiot right now

Bought an expensive monitor only to realize a few hours after that it was the wrong model I wanted. Can’t cancel anymore because it’s shipped. The monitor is sold by Amazon no 3rd party.

Once it comes in tomorrow I won’t open it.

I’ve never made a mistake like this before and I’m worried I won’t get a refund :(

What’s the process like?

Someone in the bus started a conversation

For context, I’m a quiet person these days. I don’t socialize much, and I’m at peace with that. I generally don’t start conversations unless someone else does first.

I got on the bus and noticed a pretty woman sitting nearby. She looked up and smiled at me, I smiled back to be polite, then made my way to the back. A little while later she initiated conversation, asking about the bus route, then my ethnicity, whether I was still in school, what I studied, whether I come to the area often, and my name. Then the conversation naturally wound down.

I really appreciated it. I tend to assume people are put off by me, so I usually keep my distance. But she was warm and upfront about wanting to talk…and that meant a lot.
