I’ve been trying to grow carrots for 3 years now. I just want to share my best carrot I’ve grown so far. The key seems to be to not overwater. By that I mean I didn’t really water at all although we did have a higher than usual rainfall year.
Spinach Tadka dal from
Amrikan. Idk why this book doesn’t get more recognition. Almost everything I’ve made from
Here has been pretty good and simple. This came together pretty fast and I pureed the spinach to make it green
Easy tomato dal from Dinner by Meera Sodha. I have her other book East too and i don’t love her recipes. I find them bland. I keep trying because they SOUND and LOOK delicious, and everyone swears by her. I might have to start altering recipes to make them fit my palate more. Super simple to make. Wasn’t bad. It was fine.
Lazy veggies noodles from
Woks of life. 10/10 ease and flavor. I added tofu. I’d halve the noodles next time or double the mushrooms and spinach. I added scallions. But i prefer a higher stuff to noodle ratio.
Bengali red lentil stew by vegan richas Indian kitchen. 10/10 ease and flavor. You literally boil everything together and it’s done. Vegan Richa is one of my favorite cookbook authors.
This was a hodge podge of recipes from
Love and lemons Feel good food. Baked tofu, citrus miso dressing, and roasted cabbage I served over soba noodles for a work meal prep. 9/10. The dressing and tofu was amazing. Cabbage is prefer steamed next time.
Swiss chard enchiladas from
Smitten kitchen keepers. Needed to use up chard from My backyard and didn’t want it too vegetal tasting for my child. Doesn’t matter she didn’t like. I actually quite enjoyed them but would prefer a higher bean to chard ratio. It reminds me of a restaurant I live by who basically makes the same thing but puts black bean dip in their enchiladas and they are insane.
Jam and mozzarella English muffin rolls from sweet farm by Molly yeh. 8/10 taste, pretty easy. Made for my child who loves cheese and jam toast à la bluey iykyk. She was a huge fan as were all my neighbors. I made them with cherry jam I also made.
Not disappointed with my new haul so far. Looking forward to cooking more out of them. I bit the bullet and got CookShelf. Ok fine. It’s a game changer. I figure it’s like 50% the cost of a doordash meal for a year. I should just do it. I’m glad I did. Thanks everyone who mentioned it to me.
Lastly I’m glad I found this sub. Yall are some of the nicest people in this corner of the internet.
Briefly: I’m a single mom no help around with an almost 4.5 year old. My neighbor has a 4 and 8 year old. They have played together for probably 3 years now. The mom and I are friends and she helps me a lot.
The four year old is annoying and obnoxious. She never speaks normally. Every time she speaks it’s a whine, shriek, yell, or scream. She is constantly screaming and crying. Im not exaggerating. She never shares. Whines when my child won’t share immediately. Tries to hit my child and the sister but my child is 97th percentile and the sibling is four years older and she’s like 5th percentile. So usually the bigger girls will dodge or out run her and she will end up hurting herself and then she loses it more.
She will eat food and put it back on the serving plate. Open her mouth and just let food fall out of it if she doesn’t like it. She never listens to anyone. She has been corrected over and over again by her parents and myself. Usually experiences the natural consequence be it falling, hurting herself, or having an imposed time out. Of which is awful for everyone because she screams at the top of her lungs and flails her body about the whole time through.
I’ve tried and tried with positive reinforcement to try to steer her towards not yelling. Not because I feel like I should parent her but for my own sanity. Even my child unprompted told her to stop yelling and that she was hurt our ears.
The problem is the mom thinks the behavior is funny. She gets annoyed by her too and verbalizes it. And frustrated often. But most of the time she thinks it’s amusing.
When everyone was younger I chalked it up to them being younger. But my child and most of her classmates haven’t been like this ever and certainly haven’t been like this for over a year now.
Example tonight: a bird kept dive bombing their cat and shrieking at the cat. So for over an hour she screamed back at the bird shouting “come at me brah! Bruh! Bruh! Come at me brah!” Over and over again. Mom verbalized how annoying it was but DIDNT STOP HER. I sound absurd complaining about the noise of a tiny 4 year old but she is SO LOUD.
I felt uncomfortable saying anything but wtf.
My child is not an angel but is the opposite of this child. She doesn’t scream unless she’s absolutely pissed which is maybe once every few months at best. She usually just calmly plays with the older sibling when this girl wails on.
I was asking for advice but I’m pretty sure I just need to accept this annoyance in my life. So I guess I’m looking for solidarity and just ranting
There was a request to see my cookbook collection after I posted my new haul.
If anyone has favorite recipes from any of these let me know!
Hi guys! I posted a short time ago asking for your three favorite cookbooks. https://www.reddit.com/r/CookbookLovers/s/A99fC5C7LR I settled on these! Many of the cookbooks that were mentioned I already had! I took a chance with a few non veg cookbooks and was pleasantly surprised at how many veg recipes there were!
I don’t usually use more than 5-6 recipes a cookbook regularly so having 1/2 to 2/3 of the cookbook be vegetarian was more than enough for me.
I’m looking forward to cooking out of these! Thanks everyone for your recommendations
I recently asked which 3 cookbooks yall use the most. I’ve settled on ten… yes TEN cookbooks mostly from your recommendations. I’ll post a photo of them all later once the last few come in.
Recipetin eats tonight: pizza Mac. I made it vegetarian for us. Omitted the pepperoni and added extra olives and spinach in the Mac. My 4 year old: mama you have to try it it’s SO GOOD! An easy one pan dish we both like!
Looking to get myself a few for Mother’s Day present to myself.
Bonus if they’re plant based/plant heavy.
I like to bake too!
