Appropriate behavior at a restaurant

Went to an adult brunch bday with four year old and our neighbor and her kids (4 and 8), and a few neighbors. We were outside in a very casual family friendly patio. The girls chose to sit on the ground in a corner a few feet from us, closer to another table. The neighbor girls were being a bit loud, my child was quiet. It wasn’t super disruptive so neither me nor their mom said anything. Eventually a mom, dad, and 8 year old looking kid sat down there. The girls stayed and at one point my child banged on the metal planter which made a drum noise. I immediately turned and said no. Don’t do that it makes too much noise. She stopped.

One of the women in my group went to them and told them to be quiet and to stay with our table then apologized to the family. The family said “oh it’s not a problem at all”.

I feel that was unwarranted and made me feel like a shitty parent. Just curious what other people think. Should i have called them back over? Were they being annoying and disruptive?

When we go out to eat I allow behavior based on restaurant. If it’s our favorite Nepalese place that’s usually empty she can get up and wander the restaurant as long as she doesn’t get in anyone’s way. If we are at a busy restaurant with tons of people walking around I keep her at the table. This place was in between and I didn’t feel any harm letting them sit in a corner by some planters?

Edit: seems I should’ve called her back when the other table sat down. I’m still learning. Not trying to justify but the patio is a sprawling patio and we had specifically chose a table that was as close to the corner as possible to not bother others. The only table closer to this corner was the little table that was too small for us. I really didn’t think sitting on the ground next to two planters would’ve been disruptive to anyone since they were out of view from everyone but us. But i now see that when that family sat down i should’ve called them back over. Thanks all. Leaving this up in case anyone else wonder about parenting/social etiquette.

Backpacking options for Sacramento area?

Hi! It’s been a few years since my last backpacking trip. Had a child and she’s now 4! We’ve been camping and increasing our hikes and she can now do a 3 mile flat hike pretty easily.

Planning on going backpacking with her this weekend. Was thinking of doing the trinity alps but the drive is 4 hours which is a bit long. I have all the gear and can easily carry it but it’s def a struggle to carry the gear and her.

Any recommendations on a short easy 1-3 mile hike to a water source (or water source along the way) closer that don’t require special permits?

Thanks in advance

Advice to help 4 year old not hit

Help a mom out. My child is 4.5. From 18 months to about 3.5years old she went through a violent phase. Hitting, pushing, hair pulling. We worked so hard to stop it. Mainly we taught her to use her words and if that doesn’t work get an adult.

From 3.5-4 it was like something clicked and she completely abandoned hitting.

Now she is being told at daycare when she gets an adult that she needs to figure it out herself. Which I understand you can’t always run to get someone for every little problem. The problem is other kids don’t listen. It happens at home too. She has a friend next door that does not listen to her parents, me, her sister, or my daughter.

So after my child asks them for a turn or tell them to stop stepping on her toys, spraying her with water, share the chalk, etc. The children don’t stop. They continue. And after my child asks again and they don’t listen, usually they will hoard even more or try to run away with the toy or double down on stepping on her toys.

She’s getting an adult to help and they tell her to figure it out. So she’s been resorting back to hitting or yelling.

I don’t know what to tell her. Besides walking away, these children won’t listen. They wont even listen to me. It seems unfair that my child has to concede every time because these other kids don’t want to listen.

What else can I tell her to do to resolve these issues? How can I help her. What do you tell your kids? I don’t want her to hit or yell but honestly these kids frustrate me. I want to just tell her let’s not play but she likes them and I want to help her learn life skills.

Edit: I want to point out with the sharing/taking turns of toys they are either communal toys or our own toys. These kids are refusing to share with my child communal toys or her own toys, not theirs.

Thanks

Hong Kong “Chicken Wing” Curry

Growing up it was my favorite dish. My mom’s chicken wing and potato curry. I haven’t eaten meat for 21 years now and today I was deeply craving her curry.

So I made it for my child with soy curls. 10/10 fantastic and my child loved it too.

First blackberry harvest!

Took me 3 years! First year I got a few. Last year I got a few more. This is the first year I’ve been getting enough for us to eat AND make a cobbler. There’s more on the way, I’m hoping we have enough for jam!

Triple crown and black satin
