17F, flexible part time jobs that would be good for a school schedule?

I’m going to start beauty school in the upcoming months and my schedule for school is 8-2 for six weeks with fridays 9-4. After that i continue 8-2 on mondays, 11-5 from there on, and friday still being 9-4.

I’ve never had a job before, and I’ve always heard HEB is a great job for students but i also know they may not be hiring and i’m just unsure how many jobs will work with my schedule? Any suggestions?

17F Diagnosed Subclinical Hyperthyroidism, Worried about Graves Disease

Around the age of 15, i had lab work and was told my thyroid was looking “a bit hyper”. I never asked more about it because I didn’t think about it that hard and figured it would just go away, and according to the doctors, it did? Or maybe it was just still acceptable im not sure?

Either way, about a month ago, I started having a sudden onset of certain symptoms. Unfortunately around this time i also got the Flu, so its hard to tell if my symptoms were because of the flu or if my symptoms started beforehand.

I’ve been having very bad night sweats, at first i chalked it up to the seasons changing, but while i would usually keep my AC on the lowest output setting and have it around 75-80 (I know that sounds crazy) and i would be fine and even sometimes cold.

Now however, I’ve had to turn the AC down to 63 (as low as it goes) and turn up the fan output, and i still wake up almost drenched every night. I’m constantly warm/hot, even to all my family members who are often shocked by how warm my body is. Just for an example i guess, I went to the doctor last week (to check my thyroid because of these symptoms), my mother was freezing. I feel like most people know just how cold the doctor’s office can be, but for the first time every, i was having to take off my thin cardigan because i was just too hot while my mother was bundled up in her jacket next to me.

This also all started due to a bout of nausea, which quickly went away, but i soon noticed that even with eating what i always have (and more than i have because i want to gain weight), i was still dropping pounds and struggling to gain weight as i was a year ago.

For reference, around 13-14 i was 120-128 lbs and 5’1. I am still the same height, but just a few days ago, i was at my lowest ever at 88 lbs. I’ve since been wavering around 90 lbs, but i just cant seem to get above 91 lbs.

Of course, unfortunately, i also have mental health issues so anxiety, irritability, and mood swings have always been a normal thing for me, however with my anxiety specifically, i’ve noticed my body getting anxious without any clear trigger. I usually know EXACTLY what is going to make me anxious, but lately my body has just been doing it to itself.

Alongside this, I’ve for a long time (since elementary school) had POTS-like symptoms, however a cardiologist told me after a 7 day heart monitor study, that nothing was wrong. It’s gotten so bad at some points that I have gone completely blind and deaf, as in my vision completely blacks out from standing too fast, or raising my arms above my head for too long, along with my ears ringing to the point i cant hear anything but the ringing. Just a few months ago, I also had a sudden unexplained grand mal seizure. I know these are not indicative of Graves Disease (as far as i know), but it still feels worth to talk about as it seems lately, my health has gone downhill despite this time of my life being the most health conscious i’ve ever been. I also get frequent ear infections, so i’ve had to be extremely careful about getting water in my ears, and i simply cannot use headphones or earbuds anymore as just wearing them for maybe 10 minutes or less, i get an infection.

I’ve been having hand tremors quite badly as of this week as well, alongside classic fatigue and constant tiredness and low energy. I never feel like i sleep enough, or even good enough, despite getting at least 10 hours sometimes 12 or maybe a little more if i decide to nap. I also have what feels like an unexplainable tension build up and/or restlessness in my wrists and hands that a few months ago, started affecting my ankles as well. I will also have random bouts every few weeks or months of sudden headaches or head throbbing.

I’m not here looking for a diagnosis obviously, more so advice or support? I got my bloodwork results back, and the doctor said my T3 and T4 was fine and normal, however my TSH was “on the low end again” and gave me an official diagnosis of Subclinical Hyperthyroidism. We’re already ordering more tests to be done next week or sooner, however the statistics are quite scary, seeing that apparently, majority of pediatric patients who present with a form of hyperthyroidism end up with Graves Disease.

I’m stuck between being worried about how this may change my life and feeling stupid for being worried at all when I could just not have it. I’d like to see if anyone here has had a similar experience or maybe advice on how to handle this? I also just needed to vent honestly.

Thank you so much to anyone who responds :)

17F—Need advice on gaining weight without knowing what to eat as a previously very picky eater

Height: 5’1
Current weight: 92 lbs
Goal weight: 120 lbs (But honestly right now just trying to get to a healthy weight)

When i was 13, i weighed 130 lbs and then suddenly in a months span time, my appetite fell and i almost stopped eating completely besides things like little debbie snacks. My appetite was very tied to my mental health, and if i was doing bad mentally, i had no desire to eat and would get very nauseous during anxious moments, sometimes to the point of dry heaving.

I was also extremely picky as a child, i would cry and simply not eat if my foods were touching each other. It has gotten much better with age, however my tastebuds have not changed. I’m more open to trying foods, but unfortunately theres still much i just don’t like at all.

Leading up to now, i never went over the 110 mark after 13. I’ve been trying, struggling with consistency but also just feeling full after eating.

My family just got cut off of food stamps for some reason, so i’ve always been even more hesitant to buy food i may not like and experiment. I’ve tried boost drinks in vanilla but it tastes like lucky charms marshmallows and i hate it. I’ve thought about trying to chocolate flavor but the title “rich chocolate” worries me it’ll taste more dark chocolate-y.

I’ve heard the advice of eating smaller meals more frequently but then im lost again at just what to get exactly. It doesn’t help that i don’t like peanut butter much, i can tolerate it with certain things like pb & j’s but it gets hard to eat very fast otherwise, and it seems to be the biggest flavor when it comes to gaining weight and i get that but it sucks.

I guess i’m asking for options and opinions or maybe advice? I’d appreciate a taste description for any product recommendations :)

Headphones and infection prone ears?

I love music and I especially love very bass-y songs. Unfortunately, a few years ago i started getting yeast infections in my ears. I keep my ears dry in the shower, and i don’t do anything to cause the infections, so my ENT concluded that my ears must simply be very moist and I just simply cant wear earbuds or headphones without getting an infection.

I’ve been fine, i have open-ear earbuds, but i’ve really been missing the immersion and bass of headphones and I know there’s likely nothing i can do but i guess in hoping to find someone who had the same issue and found a solution or work around?

Cosmetic science?

I plan on starting beauty school next month, and my dream is to be a private stylist with my own business. I know this is going to be very hard to achieve but im determined and want to know what all will help me advance my skills.

I’d like to honestly learn everything, but i’m aware that usually the best route is finding a niche/specialty, so im definitely planning on doing that, but I do eventually want to learn acrylics, lash extensions, waxing, and esthetics. I was at first fully set on specializing in nail but decided that cosmetology and hairstyling would offer a bigger field, especially given how much i want to expand my skills.

Would it be advisable to one day in the future, go to school for cosmetic science and/or business? I know that there will most definitely be challenges with this but i want this to be my career and i want to try my hardest to get where i want, and even if I fail, i can know i tried and still feel proud of all i’ve learned.

I’d love to be the stylist, or nail artist, or wax tech, that actually helps and gives you advice on your hair, your skin, and explains to clients about the science and reasons why certain things help them and why things react certain ways.

I love learning and i love helping people, but the more i learn about cosmetology school, the more i see the sentiment of “you’ll have to teach yourself”, and if that’s the case, i want to be prepared to further my education in the best ways possible. Thank you for anyone who replies!

My diagnoses are—

Borderline personality disorder with psychotic traits

Major depressive disorder

Social anxiety disorder

General anxiety disorder

Acid reflux

Exercise induced asthma

i currently also have a UTI

I have a previous history of—

Acute glomerulonephritis (once at age 5)

(Recently) My first seizure

Hyperthyroid

Fainting problems

UTI’s (3)

Self harm

I am currently taking—

Quetiapine

Escitalopram

Bactrim

Keppra

Zofran (when needed for nausea)

I use vapes and smoke weed daily and have for about a year now but on and off for 3 years. I am white, 5’1, 94lbs, and have lived in the USA my whole life, never been out of country.

Okay finally. For a bit more past history, my “fainting problems” are all very synonymous with symptoms of POTS but my cardiologist did a heart monitor week study and said nothing was found so that sucks. Compression socks have helped a bit. As i also mentioned, about a week ago, I had a grand mal seizure. We’re going to see a neurologist soon and i have a post about it on my page.

As a child, around 4th grade, i would always struggle with hand and finger restlessness (specifically feels like my joints). It would mostly show up when i was writing in class and i would sometimes have to pause and shake my hand out and stretch.

Over the years, i’ve noticed it more and more. I now play video games and i can really be a pain sometimes and almost impossible to play with the discomfort and restlessness in my wrists and hands. It’s slowly progressed, I’d say my hands started in 4th grade, my wrists started around 7th grade, my lower back started around the same time, and just now, for the first time, its in my ankles badly.

So badly i felt to need to make this post, its currently all over my ankles and hands and writing this is a pain but i would rather go here than google. (I WILL BE MAKING AN APPOINTMENT!)

Its so unbearable and causes me nausea. My mother has neuropathy and says it sounds similar to her pain but im so young. I’d be shocked if i had that. Maybe im ignorant but i always thought nerve pain was something that came with age.

I guess i just want advice? Or possible things it could be? I’ve looked at possibilities and i dont have the numbness. I’ve rarely had tingling but its really just major discomfort and what feels like a build up of energy making me restless and need to move.

Recently having my first seizure and now what seems to be nerve pain, I’m a bit nervous for my health. This all seems like a lot for a 17 year old.

I’ve tried some compression gloves but they didn’t fit the best and didnt help that much. Thank you to whoever responds! :)

I went a little crazy one i hit 13 and went all out with no knowledge on permanent box dyes (reds, pinks, black) and bleaching my hair two times (highlights another time, but still bleach) I also straightened my hair quite a bit with no heat protectant. Over the past few months i’ve recognized the damage to my hair. I cut my own hair, i tried to cut off the dead ends i could see but getting the breakage is very hard to do on your own on the back of your head.

I also noticed my hair always creating curls on its own when it was brushed out, but it was always only a few loose curls so i ignored it but yesterday i used some curl products (leave in conditioner, curl defining cream, and mousse all from NYM) and i can definitely see the shorter parts of my hair with more cut off are curling more (second photo is a good example i feel).

I’ve heard about Olaplex a LOT but i just don’t have the money for the prices im seeing unfortunately. if there is a cheaper product i just missed that would help id love to know. I’m a fan of diy hair masks and such as well but i know theres likely none that could really help this level of damage

So to summarize i guess—I’d like to get others opinions on my hair being wavy or possibly even loosely curly as well as some advice for the damage ive done to my hair and how to repair it :)

EDIT: as the day has gone on the back of my hair and side have all started to curl more overtime so honestly i think i may have my answer there :p
