Big Grande’s Teacher’s Lounge - Ridiculous Voice origins

On my umpteenth relisten rn. When and how did Bill start showing signs of ridiculous voice? I know it started in S3 but my main question is, do you think it was a conscious choice that Drew made or did it just start and he couldn’t stop? How much effort do you think it was to maintain RV week after week? It sounds natural a lot of the time and I forget that he wasn’t always living with RV. Any guesses or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Help! Who are these people?

I hope this isn’t a low-effort post but it’s driving me crazy that I can’t identify these people I circled on the far left.

My guess is Cohen, but I don’t recall him in any of the Watch books. Cuddy peeking over the railing. Mrs. Cake with the cane. And Carcer in green?

Please help. My ADHD won’t let me think about anything else until I have an answer. Thank you.

My (38f) best friend (38f) of 20 years didn’t invite me to her birthday

There is a lot of backstory and I apologize for the length.

My best friend “Monica” just had her birthday party last weekend and she didn’t invite me, didn’t explain why, and I’ve been too nervous to ask yet. She moved back to our home town 4 years ago (an hour away from me) but I visit sometimes and we talk at least weekly. She invited her other best friend “Rachel” (38f) and 3 other women, who also all live in our hometown. Rachel has had a problem with me for years, but I had thought it was finally put to rest ~2 years ago.

Rachel’s problem is that I was very close friends with her husband “Ross” (38m) from the ages of 12-18; they met during our senior year of high school and he’s always been very devoted to her, which I always supported. Because she had significant jealousy issues, when we were ~21, she “made him” choose between their relationship and our friendship and never even wanted to try to get to know me. I didn’t know that she had given him an ultimatum; I just thought we grew apart because he was prioritizing their relationship and I respected that. I’ve dated men who never would have done that for me and I thought that was admirable of him. It made me sad that she didn’t want to know me, but I wasn’t mad at either of them over it.

Fast forward to when we were ~26: Monica moved back to our hometown a different time, then she met Rachel at a new job and they hit it off and became best friends. Rachel still didn’t like me and gave Monica bs reasons based on what other people in our small town would say about me behind my back. At no point has it felt like Monica was trying to pit us against each other or make anyone feel a certain way; she just has 2 separate best friends who had an unnecessarily awkward history. I never told Monica not to be friends with Rachel and I don’t think Rachel ever tried either. I think the distance between Rachel and I had just gone on for so long that there wasn’t a path forward to a comfortable dynamic.

When we were ~31, Monica finally revealed to me that Rachel’s problem with me was always just having been jealous of my friendship with Ross and had “forced” him to choose. She also told me that Rachel was going to apologize to me at some point. I told Monica, “I don’t really need an apology cuz I get where she’s coming from, but it would be nice if she could tolerate being in the same room with me.”

About 2 years ago, I came down to visit Monica and she told me that Rachel was asking if she could come over for a bit because she wanted to make things cool between us. I said, “if you’re ok and she’s ok then that’s ok with me. I have never had a problem with her. I never had a chance to get to know her.” And Rachel came over and we exchanged what felt like genuine hugs and hung out and chatted for a while and it seemed like everything was good. There was no “formal” apology, but I legit don’t need one. Basically, I thought things were cool and we were moving forward as adults.

Now we are brought up to this past weekend, when Monica had her bday party and only invited 4 friends that also live in our hometown. I found out about it the weekend before and it was definitely not an invitation. I don’t even know if it has anything to do with the awkwardness between Rachel and I or another reason, because Monica never told me. Monica knows that I’m a pretty reasonable and understanding person, if she had just explained to me why she wasn’t inviting me I wouldn’t be as hurt.

I drafted a whole heartfelt note to explain to Monica soon. My plan is to talk in person and then send it to her so she can have time to process before having to respond. The only action item I am requesting is better communication if she’s intentionally not inviting me to something.

I guess my question is, are there any action items I should request beyond better communication in the future?

Before anyone tells me to end it or asks what I get from this friendship: we’ve been friends for over 20 years and have literally saved each other’s lives more than once. No one understands me like she does and we are both very committed to this friendship. We rarely fight, and when we do “fight” it is just that we psychically know that we’re not talking for a couple weeks and then we have a long talk later to clear the air. When I’m struggling and need someone to talk to, she will always pick up the phone and vice versa. Even though she has more than one best friend, I know that I’m her favorite.

Tl;dr- my (38f) best friend (38f) didn’t invite me to her bday and I don’t know why. I suspect it might be because she invited her other friend (38f), with whom there is some uncomfortable/awkward history. Before I talk to my best friend about it, can you recommend any specific action items I should request to strengthen our relationship in the future?

Baths contribute to foot pain

I love taking hot baths but I find that the heat can Sometimes make my foot pain worse. Standing in the shower is not a viable alternative.

Does anyone else experience this or have advice for how to bathe without exacerbating foot pain? Thanks.

My (38F) nephew (12M) won’t text me back. What can I do?

I’m not sure where to post this but I’ve been overthinking and don know if I should keep trying or leave him alone.

I (38F) live in the US, my brother’s (43M) family lives in Europe. I also am unpartnered and child-free, if that matters. My niece (10F) and nephew (12M) are the center of my universe and it’s hard to maintain a relationship over the distance and 9hr time difference. They just started Summer break, so I’m trying to engage in our group chat when it’s late/early here. My niece will text me back and share things with me, they aren’t the deepest conversations but it’s nice to hear from her. My nephew has not replied in the group chat since 6/23. I make sure to ask him specific questions, congratulated him on graduating primary school, no answer. I‘m considering texting him privately, but I don’t want to feel like I’m annoying or pressuring him. The last time we saw each other he cried about not wanting to leave. Idk if or why he would be mad at me.

Is it normal for a 12 year old to lose interest in connecting with their cool aunt? Should I message him privately? If so, what should I say? Anything I haven’t thought of?

tl;dr- my (38F) nephew 12M) won’t text me back which makes me sad and anxious. I need advice on how to proceed.

Odor control inserts that don’t add volume

I had to make Frankenstein insoles because I have PF, with pain under the ball of the foot and fibromas.

I‘ve tried all types of insoles; cheap, expensive, rigid, semi rigid, and many of them actually increased the amount of pain after a while. It took forever but I finally made this mash-up that I can wear all day. However, they do not breath very well and I’m having issues with odor. I alternate between breathable New Balance 1080s and ASICS Nimbuses, and I made custom inserts for each pair.

I bought some Shoe-pouri spray that works pretty well, but I’d like to get something to absorb sweat/odor during the day. I bought Odor Eater inserts to layer with my “custom” inserts, but they are foam and add too much volume and make my shoes uncomfortable. Is there a type of sweat/odor absorbing fabric that I can buy and layer onto my inserts, without adding additional volume? Can you recommend any other subreddits that I should ask? Thank you!

The girl at the Motor Inn

Who nailed up the boards outside the room? It’s implied that she barricaded herself in there, but why are the boards nailed up outside the room?

Which underused character would you like to see in a spinoff?

This popped into my head this morning and I’m not entirely sure who I would choose. Is there an underutilized character that you would have liked explored in a spinoff?

I would really have liked a prequel for Krista and Omid, or a spinoff for Krista once she and Clem separated. I guess maybe people might not agree they were underutilized. Maybe a Chuck prequel would better fit my premise. Or find out what happened to>!the girl who shot Omid.!<

Who would you have liked to see more of?

How old was Vimes during Color of Magic?

I’m relistening to Thud! and he has a line, “It’s been a long time since this city last burned to the ground,” which has me wondering. As far as I understand, the last time was during CoM, what was Vimes doing then? Was he already a member of the Watch or was he still a kid? Was it before or after the events of Night Watch? Does anyone know or have a good theory? Thanks!

Comorbidity with ball-of-foot pain and fibromas

has anyone experienced pain at the toe box area in tandem with PF?

I have pain at the ball of my foot so when I wear a brace or splint, it causes pain there and does’t actually give a good enough stretch for the calves and PF. I also have fibromas on the PF that create additional pain.

Traditional arch supports put pressure on the fibromas and just create more pain, so I’ve had to glue 2 different types of inserts together, cut holes in them, and stick metatarsal stickers to them as well. My “Frankenstein” orthotics are the only kind that actually feel ok all day, but sometimes they don’t have enough arch support so I have to add another rigid accessory from an Orthofeet shoe. Now that rigid accessory is breaking down and I need to replace them with something similar. does that make sense to anyone? Anyone have similar issues with comorbidities?

Request to leave early to attend a career building class

I work in the healthcare field. I was looking for work as a medical coder, but after 5 months, 100+ applications and 0 interviews I took this job to get more experience. The job is semi-adjacent to coding/billing and my manager knew about my career aspirations when he hired me. I’m paying to maintain my certification while gaining experience to help me get closer to my goal.

Next week there is a chapter meeting that will help me get CEUs, but I’d need to leave work more than an hour early to attend the class. It will cover information that may be beneficial to my current role; my schedule is somewhat flexible. I don’t have to request time for medical appointments or anything.

My question is, how should I word my request to leave early? Should I say that I would *like* to leave early or that I *need* to? How much information should I provide as to why I need to leave early?

It is highly likely that they will say yes, especially because it’s not unrelated to my role. I just want to make sure to word it in a manner that stresses why it’s important but maintains a respectful and professional tone. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Going Postal Stanley Neurodivergence

I just restarted Going Postal again and I was thinking about Stanley. It seems likely that he has some autistic traits, with his special interests and having his “moments.” I’m wondering: do you feel like his portrayal shows an authentic or positive representation? I haven’t spent enough time focusing my attention on this before, so I’m not sure of my opinion. I do love him though and I feel like Moist genuinely appreciates his quirks down the line. What do you think?

Can we please use spoiler warnings?

some of us are not able to keep up with the new episodes as they air. can we please use spoiler warnings and effects out of respect for those who aren’t able to follow along in real time? This might not be the right post for this subreddit, but I had to very quickly race past a spoiler just now. Thank you for your understanding.

Do all Geniussis courses grant CEUs?

I only need .5 CEUs to renew my membership before 6/30. I might not be able to attend my next chapter meeting. I’m already enrolled in a few courses on Geniussis, but can I get CEUs from any of them and how can I tell which ones? Thanks!
