Android Auto issues, crashing and restarting when plugged into car.

I have a OnePlus phone and I recently switched over to LineageOS degoogled. The only Google app that I want is Android Auto, so I tried installing it with microG and it worked flawlessly for about 5 minutes. I then decided that it was a good idea to go screw around with my settings and messed something up, I think. Honestly I've tried so many things I'm kind of hazy about my order of operations and I think I'm just making it progressively worse.

Anyway, every time I plug into my car, my phone recognizes the app, the car recognizes the phone and loads Android Auto then promptly disconnects. It will try to do this a second time and the same thing happens. Sometimes it will connect and bring me as far as my Android Auto interface on the head unit, but then disconnects again.

The first time that it worked, I had MicroG installed in my Shelter work app. I had some extra stubs installed in my home profile and I thought that might be weird and cluttered so I figured that I should delete my work profile and reinstall in my main. So I uninstalled the android update, uninstalled android auto from the work profile, uninstalled all the microG things, and then deleted my work profile and uninstalled Shelter.

From there I'll show my steps for installation and things I've tried:

Apps in use: MicroG & MicroG companion from F-Droid. aa4mg Magisk Module. Android Auto downloaded from the Aurora Store.

Steps:

- Installed MicroG + Companion. All self-check permissions granted besides 3: "Permission to receive text messages (SMS)", permission denied by phone as a safety precaution. "Permission to This app can appear on top of other apps" permission denied by phone as a safety precaution. "Permission to interact with work profile" - no work profile enabled. Beyond self check I have not messed with any other settings. AA seemed to work with this setup on first go.

- Installed aa4mg module, granted all stub permissions, restarted phone.

- Updated Android Auto through Aurora store - only gave me the update option, as I think it shows up after aa4mg installation but I'm not sure on this one.

- Granted Android Auto all permissions for everything

Troubleshooting done:

- Forget phone on AA head unit, forget vehicle in AA app and phone connected devices settings, restart car and phone

- clear AA cache & system data, restart phone

- both suggestions from aa4mg (enable AA developer options, check "unknown sources", Android Xposed "set the next used launch option as default"

- Disable USB Debugging

- Hide Magisk, and used HMA-OSS to add Android Auto to denylist.

- Cleared network preferences and re-entered them

- enabled & disabled mobile data & wi-fi access

Probably more things on top of this that I can't remember. I did download extra stubs online (GoogleTTS, Gcam Services, GMaps from dylangerdaly and sn-00-x) and with my first setup AA worked fine with those, then with the second install with them it didnt work, and now I dont have them installed and it is still not working. Every time I've tried something to troubleshoot it has been the same problem, no error codes or anything.

Help is super appreciated, I've spent hours on this now and having a taste of functionality has made it extra frustrating that I messed it up somehow.

Can anyone ELI5 how to get Android Auto set up on Degoogled phone?

I just Degoogled a few days ago and my mind is swirling with all of the things I've had to research so far, so I'm getting a little spun out in how to do this successfully. Any help is appreciated!

I have a OnePlus13R running LineageOS 23.2, no Gapps or MicroG. Pictured are the modules I have installed currently, I also have YetAnotherBootloopProtector.

I only really care about being able to use osmand or another navigation map and Flow or Metrolist for Android Auto, I can do without anything else, really. If there's any way that I can avoid microg that would rule but it seems unlikely.

So, where do I go from here?

Anyone know why Molly phones home to Microsoft and Google?

I'm on Lineage OS and I have Tracker Control checking out different apps, it shows 'Microsoft - Content " and "Google - Content". Signal hasn't shown this in the couple days that I've been using lineage, so curious what this could be if Molly is supposed to be hardened.

Is rooting your phone required in order to use Magisk?

I'm new to screwing around with my phone, and I just installed DeGoogled LineageOS. I want to install Magisk so that I can get Android Auto running, among a couple of other things.

I found a link that shows how to install an unrooted version , but luckily I noticed that one of the links at the top of the page says "Tips & Tirck" so I figured it was a fake website. I did end up patching the boot image through the legit Magisk Manager, and that's as far as I got.

So, is there a way to do this? If so, is any functionality lost? And if not, what are the shortcomings of a rooted device? I have heard that the attack surface of the device is larger than one that's not rooted, and different things might break but I don't know exactly what that means. TIA for any info!

Launcher that lets me edit my app drawer?

I would really like to organize my app drawer so that I can create folders grouping together similar types of apps (maps, app stores, messaging etc). I know I can do that on the home screen, but i like leaving that for widgets and i think it would be aesthetically pleasing. The regular app drawer just reminds me of a junk drawer lol

Can I re-register my account on a new OS without SMS verification?

I've searched a bunch on this sub and duckduckgo and can't find a direct answer to this, or one that's clear to me. I'm installing a new Android OS, and will need to reinstall Signal. Will I be able to re-register using only my Signal PIN, or will I have to verify with BOTH sms verification AND my PIN if I have registration lock on? I won't have access to my Signal number and don't want to change it. TIA!

Question about receiving RCS messages and different texting apps

I currently use Fossify messages, and I was wondering if someone I am texting is using RCS messaging, will I receive those messages at all, even in a different format? I am just worried that I may not be receiving texts from people and want to make sure that I'm not missing anything.

- Is Fossify or QuikSMS more reliable?

- For LineageOS users, is the stock texting app better than the above?

- I am switching to LineageOS, if I do would MicroG with Google Messages work? I know that MicroG phones home to some degree but I don't know exactly how much it relies on Google Services. I was planning on installing Shelter to create a separate profile, and was thinking of possibly installing MicroG and Google Messages on that. How secure is this?

TIA!

Help update Openstreetmaps for Eugene and De-Google yourself!

This isn't a targeted ad or whatever, I'm just an avid Degoogler and I'm trying to give up Google Maps but that's a tough one because GMaps is so advanced. The next best thing imo is OpenStreetMaps. It's opensource, none of your data is collected and sold to companies, you can download maps for offline use and its pretty damn accurate. Better than google maps in some ways, particularly with hiking/walking/cycling.

The blessing/catch is that it's all updated by users, so it really needs an active userbase who will update locations to make it as accurate as possible. So if you are interested in trying a Google alternative and like doing things like map updates, they give a step by step tutorial on the website and the location updates almost automatically. If you use the OsmAnd app, you can also add an extension where you can connect your OSM account to it and add notes right on the map for other people or yourself to go back and update later. I updated a couple locations just the other day and it's kinda fun! It is pretty accurate already, but some stuff is a few months out of date.

[Openstreetmap website](https://www.openstreetmap.org)

[Link to OsmAnd+ app](https://f-droid.org/packages/net.osmand.plus/) - you have to download F-Droid, which is basically a DeGoogled app store, but they allow you to download the premium version of OsmAnd. Otherwise I think you can download it on google play

Want barefoot shoes but I have achilles problems, what do?

TL;DR: I have achilles issues so I don't want zero-drop shoes. What are your recs for dope looking low-drop shoes or insoles that are low drop to put in barefoot shoes?

So I've had achilles problems for years, likely from walking/standing on concrete full time at many of my jobs. I'm not sure if my issue is actually achilles tendonitis, or if it has to do with my flexor hallucis longus muscles or calves since it's been a chronic issue but has only gotten to the point where I could barely walk once in over like 10 years.. Alls I know it that walking inclines, jumping, elevated calf raises, pretty much most ankle dorsiflexion makes it much worse.

I am also developing a tailor's bunion, so I want to give my feet more room and it seems like there are more stylish looking sneakers in the barefoot world; regular sneakers with wide sizing seems hard to find especially since I'm a Vans and Adidas person, not a Hoka and New Balance type.

Do any of you struggle with this, particularly on the FHL end, and if so what do you recommend I do for footwear or insoles? I'm looking at Splay sneakers, but I don't think zero drop is a good option. Are there cool looking low drop, options? Or what do you suggest for solid insoles with a bit of heel raise?

Tree of Heaven woes

So my next door neighbor has a tree of heaven that's gotta be like 50 feet tall, and a neighbor across the street has a huge one as well. They are all over the neighborhood, really, and the rest of town.

I finally bought triclopyr to deal with the ones popping up in my yard, but is poisoning them even going to do anything to stave off the new shoots or is it just going to aggravate the problem since the huge ones likely won't be affected?

There are also huge branches that reach into my yard, and i really want to prune them but will that just cause more shoots? Should I apoly triclopyr to those where I can reach them or is that a losing game, too?

These things are driving me crazy, how the hell should I manage this?

Does an actual decent arcade exist around here?

I haven't been to an arcade in a while, but are there any that have a decent selection of good games? I want Metal Slug and Street Fighter and X-Men and Bust-A-Move, the Simpsons and so on and so forth. Will Level Up come close to scratching that itch? Or does anyone know about Electric Hippo that shows up on Google Maps?

Sizing Question for women's cut polos

According to the sizing charts on the Fred Perry website, it looks like I am too big to fit in their largest size (16), however I do own a UK size 14 dress of theirs and it fits perfectly as I like my tops to be a bit snug. The dress is from like 9 years ago, though. Anyone know if the sizing has changed since then, or if the dresses are larger than what the shirt sizes would be? Don't wanna deal with the heartbreak of ordering online and not having it fit. TIA

Is there any way to "test drive" lineageOS before making the switch?

I'm nervous to switch the OS without knowing whether or not I'll want to keep using it, and Lineage never created a ROM for my old phone (Galaxy S21). So, is there a way to dual boot somehow like on a laptop, or some other kinda virtualization software that I can use?

Required to use GMail for school, how can I use it in the De-Googliest way possible?

Is there a difference in what is being tracked if I sign in to GMail on the android app vs a web browser? (I use Ironfox). Curious if there is a difference here when using Maps, too.

If I am signed in, even if the GMail app is closed and no browser tab is open for it, does it still collect information from me in ironfox or firefox with ublock?

Any other info/considerations/settings that i should tweak to keep tracking to a minimum?

HOWMST do I wash my duvet so that it stops attracting pet hair?

I bought a Brooklyn Loom duvet cover/pillowcase set and the fabric is an absolute magnet for cat hair. I spend 15-20 minutes de-furring it using a velvet lint brush AND the sticky lint rollers but it will only pick up like 65% of the hair.

The duvet has softened a *tiny bit* since I bought it but it's still stiff and scratchy, while others that I've bought that were like that and absolute cat hair nightmares have softened up and dont have this problem anymore.

Is there any way I can wash it to soften it up to keep this from happening, or are there any ACTUALLY effective products that catch hair in the dryer? It drives me crazy

What kinds of foods do the different food banks offer?

I need to start hitting them hard, and I know that different locations can offer slightly different foods and it would be great to not have to hit every single one to figure that out.

Like I know the UUCE one is primarily produce, and Waste 2 Taste gets refrigerated items (or used to). Any info on the others is greatly appreciated!

Edit: to be clear, I'm wondering if people know which pantry usuallt offers more produce, which are more canned foods, which have more refrigerated, food boxes vs shopping style etc. I figure it's never gonna be consistent since it's all donation based but having a general idea would be super helpful
