PSA for holders

If you're a day or swing trader, stop reading.

On Oct 6, NOK started the day at $10.31 and ended at $10.92. One of their direct competitors in the AI infrastructure space, CIEN, started the day at $393 and ended at $443*.

At the time of writing this, NOK is once again "bleeding" and -3% whereas CIEN has already recovered and climbing. I'm talking intraday.

Now look at this slide from Marvell Investor Day:

https://preview.redd.it/297wfc1793uh1.png?width=1735&format=png&auto=webp&s=88bb923ca6820674ac958270a6733c716df499c4

$3T is roughly 10% of US GDP - just google it, seriously. And then you have this for comparison:

https://preview.redd.it/9o7oyug283uh1.png?width=1726&format=png&auto=webp&s=23ef2737042fbeb41dc047cdfcf60d1132be357c

Going back to the share price, if you zoom out and look at CIEN between 2021 - 2025, it was mostly flat. It picked up steam half way thru 2025. Take a closer look how long it took for it to moon and "crash" (relatively speaking) for YTD.

The point I am trying to make is that if you bought NOK, do not expect to retire tomorrow/this year/next year. This is going to test your patience. If you don't have that, exit and invest in an index fund.

Norbert Gambit via WS?

I want to exchange low five figure USD to CAD.

Do I simply open an unregistered account with WS, deposit the USD, buy a dual-listed ETF like DLR, Journal the shares, wait 2 days, then withdraw the funds back to my everyday chequing account (with another institution)?

And presumably there wouldn't be any taxes generated or owed on this transaction because this is effectively my savings (or net income)?

Trying to avoid Knightsbridge Fx who were wonderful in the past but I want to avoid any human interaction and don't know if their processes have evolved since.

P.S. I have performed NG a couple of times inside RRSP to buy shares in USD but this is different, of course.

How much car can I afford

Asking on behalf of my dad (66). I'll preface by saying that IMO the answer is $0 (i.e. don't do this).

Income

BiW: $1400

CPP: $520

OAS+GIS: $950**

Assets

Home: $600K

TFSA/Savings: $97K

RRSP: $43K

Debt

Mortgage: $59K

HBP: $10K

** I don't understand why he's eligible for GIS; will investigate with Service Canada

He wants a newer vehicle ($35K) because:

- his 2015 Camry needs new brakes, tires and some rust appearing, which he doesn't want to address because it's "just throwing away money"

- he's the man, it's his money, he can do whatever he wants

I've made it very clear I'm not going to rescue him financially. My mother doesn't want to have a conversation because she gave up on him a long time ago.

I need some convincing math or argument to show him that replacing the car is dumb, and if he still insists that he shouldn't finance anything more than 24-36 months for no more than $300/mon.

Ultimately, I cannot stop him from spending $50K on a Jaguar $35K on a RAV4 if he wants.

Edit: My mother works but she doesn't hand over her full paychek to him. He doesn't know that and it's better this way. I want to help him come to the conclusion of not changing the vehicle based on his own financial circumstances and the fact that he cannot expect her to work forever just because he has chosen to work until he's laid off or dead.

Is my water pump starting to fail?

Playlist here includes a cold start and warm engine after 20 minutes of driving:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLP1hKwyY117k

Car just sounded "different" this morning.

In addition to the clicking sound, I can hear some sort of tensioner/pulley squeaking for the last 6 months. It's very intermittent and goes away after a little while of driving. The drivebelt was replaced a month ago.

2019 Honda Pilot Elite 148K km (91K mi), so it is right on the mark for timing chain belt, water pump, tensioner and spark plug service.

This POS has been nothing but problems since I bought it 12 months ago. It's literally affecting my relationship but my stubborn ass won't trade it in.

TIA!

Don't panic unless you're a swing trader

Look at other players in the same space:

  1. Intel
  2. AMD
  3. Ciena
  4. Coherent
  5. Lumentum
  6. Marvel
  7. Nebius
  8. Poet

..to name a few.

These are all impacted negatively by at least 10% at the time of writing this.

Google, Nvidia and Broadcom are barely hanging on.

NOK is not immune. They can have a master blaster quarter and it won't have any meaningful impact to the stock if the sentiment towards the industry is negative.

Also, equities cannot go up all day every day.

My previous posts speak for themselves.

P.S. Please stop sending me hate mail. My bags are mine and vice versa. I didn't tell, encourage or force anyone to invest in $NOK.

DO YOUR DD because it's all fun and games until it isn't:

What to expect in Najaf

AS, returning back to Najaf for ziyarat after 8 years. How long can we expect to clear customs if landing at 9PM, end of the month.

Also, is Airalo safe for eSIM option or you advise to pick up a physical SIM after landing?

What is taxi cost from airport to Imam Ali shrine? Should we carry USD or local currency?

Thank you!

Travel tips for Arbaeen

AS, we are landing in Baghdad separately then plan to take a cab to Najaf to join group members and begin the walk.

  1. Is Airalo reliable for e-sim? We just need data so I prefer to have a working e-sim as soon as we land.
  2. Should I bring some IQD and rest in USD or only USD is sufficient?
  3. What should we expect for taxi price from BGW to Najaf at 6AM. Negotiate in IQD or USD?
  4. How long should we estimate to clear customs upon landing?

Any other tips? I visited 8 years ago but had a more experience guide, and I'm sure things have changed/improved since.

Dip? DCA.

Between this account and another (~ 800 more shares), it makes up 35% of my portfolio.

I exited LUMN entirely as the debt is just too scary. Sold some of my ESPP too; not out of fear but just to diversify into index funds. I don't like to hold on to ESPP too long because of tax implications.

No [calculated] risk, no reward.. amirite? GLTA!

My latest position

2,035 shares at an average price of $14.55

Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Nok/comments/1tq671u/locked_in/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Latest DD:

  1. Nokia and Ericsson named leader in Network API Platforms. Read here. They earned the top spot for second consecutive year which helps telcos unlock new revenue through network programmability.

  2. PoC on a 2000km production network. Read here.

  3. Quantum resilient out-of-band key distribution for critical networks. Read here.

Success is not guaranteed nor will it be achieved on the balance sheet overnight. And at current price ($13.5-14.5), you're not getting in at the ground floor either. However, the latest developments are promising and lead me to believe there is a long runway here. They just need to announce a sizeable win/PO with a hyperscaler.

Locked in

Documenting for my own benefit really:

https://preview.redd.it/5ektgdcp6w3h1.png?width=726&format=png&auto=webp&s=e2a1f5764b3d188ec23f268bc9bd37b529ecbf9d

My DD is simple:

- I work in the industry and we believe Nokia is our strongest competitor since their acquisition of Infinera. Coupled with recent org changes, personnel onboarding and cuts, there is something of substance here. Another position I am building slowly and carefully is LUMN.

- I am also conflicted about majority index funds. They serve a purpose no doubt, and I am invested in them of course, but have a stronger conviction than ever before that generational wealth can only be built with a larger position in concentrated tickers.
