Netherlands - 13/14/15 year old students - How to introduce a new theme from the workbook (1st week of school)

Schools start in August/september again and so does my internship as an (student) English teacher. We work from a coursebook (method All Right!) and every chapter has a theme, also those themes are set in countries (e.g. chapter 1 is set in England, chapter 2 is focused on cultural aspects/key notes from Canada, etc.). But how do you guys introduce a new theme in your first lesson (when you start a new chapter)? Especially in the first week of middle school/or high school.

My first theme/chapter is set in England; any ideas? Telling a story as Henry the 8th/Shakespeare/Sherlock Holmes?

Semester abroad accommodation essentials (kitchen, home, etc.)

For my minor I am going to study abroad in Birmingham for a semester (BCU), but I don't know what you really need for in your accom. What would you recommend me to get as basics, which you'd wished to know beforehand? Moreover, where should I buy everything? Are there any secondhand stores or cheap stores that are great?

Your help is appreciated.

AITH for not returning a plastic foodcontainer?

A bit of context: So it has been approximately 2 years since I got the foodcontainer from a fellow student whom I was teaching how to cook. We were from the same course and decided to chill at his house and that he wanted to learn how to cook. Furthermore, we went to the supermarket to buy ingredients since he hadn't any in his house. Then we went to the butchers where I paid for some beef to cook with.

After eating the food we had prepared, he gave me a foodcontainer with leftovers. I hate receiving foodcontainers because I know it is a hassle to give it back. But I found it wasteful to throw away the food. I wanted to give the container back to him at my graduation but I forgot since I was busy with my own graduation ceremony as well as my drivers license exam, for which I failed at the day before my graduation. After realizing I had forgotten the container, I decided to go out on a lunch with a few friends and asking him to join us. By doing so, I can give the container back to him. But he refused to join our lunch and afterwards I haven't heard from him anymore. No DM's or anything and therefore I couldn't give the container back. I tried texting him though but he ghosts me.

Also, he had stopped midway with the vocational course and only appeared in class activities (like going to a themepark), eventhough he wasn't studying in our course and class anymore. Then he went AWOL and my friend didn't hear anything from him either.

AITH for keeping the foodcontainer?

BCU accommodation & campus

If you are studying a teacher course at BCU, which campus are you going to for classes? Reason for this is, I want to keep in mind with how to commute from my student accommodation to campus.

Also, what is best for buying kitchen equipment? Especially if I'm going to study abroad for just a semester.

Love to hear your experience!

Going on a semester abroad (England) - checklist?

So I am going to England for a semester abroad and I won't be traveling a very long distance.

I was wondering about what you really need to bring along in your suitcase as you don't want to overpack. Should I buy things in England and how about kitchen equipment? I will only be there for a semester at a student accommodation. I have enough time to plan this but I want to know about experiences from other people who actually went on studying abroad.

Student hier - HEMA punten sparen

King of nothing assignment

I am begging for help with my literature coursework

Book: King of Nothing, by Nathanael Lessore.

I have a young adult literature assignment due tomorrow evening and I hadn't have the time to read the book, because of work, internship, other deadlines and the other 4 books I have already read for this class. Also I need to do this assignment, because I had to leave class earlier the previous week (it was 2 hours of class and I had to leave after the first hour). Reason for leaving is work, for which I couldn't call in sick (responsible for closing).

I need to do an assignment about critical lenses. One of the two is just looking up information about the author etc. Which i can do on my own. But the other one is about socio-economic perspective. Plus I need to record myself while telling about the book (socio-economic lens).

Could anyone who has read the book help me answer these questions (with elaborate answers). I would be forever greatful!

Questions:

  1. What is the economic status of the characters? Which characters have money? Which characters are poor? What are the

differences?

  1. Who holds the power in the novel, and who is oppressed or marginalized?

  1. Zoom in on 2 characters, how does their socio-economic background influence their behaviour (e.g choices and morality)?

  1. Do differences in wealth create conflict between characters? If so, how?

  1. Pick a character from the novel and change their socio-economic status. How would the novel change?

  1. Does the author emphasize conditions stemming from class? (e.g. poor education, lack of healthcare, or inadequate opportunities).

  1. Does the novel ultimately criticize or support capitalist ideologies?

What fun things to do in Derby?

What fun things can you do in Derby? As a student I like to do a bit of photography; go cafe-hopping; visiting some foodspots and sightseeing.

Any recommendations?
