How does double points work?

I just want to make sure I’m understanding this correctly.

I just got off a 7-day cruise and I shared a balcony room with someone. So that gets me 7 points easy enough.

I booked a trip during double points and I’m solo on a balcony. Does that mean I’m getting 14 points or 21 points? Since it’s double points for solo travel? Or is it more or less?

Thanks for helping me understand this.

I booked this in July

What’s the best way to draw down from a money market fund?

Hi,

I’m at a slight impasse. I’m in my mid 30s. I have $100k in a money market fund. All I have been doing is investing the interest. But I’ve had this $100k since I was 26 years old. I don’t have a house or a mortgage no loans nothing. Just normal everyday bills. I live at home with my parents because I’m helping care for aging family. I want to draw down this $100k and get my money market fund down to $50k or $60k. Even at $50k - $60k that surpasses my 6 month emergency fund. Is it really just that simple? I just either DCA weekly into 80/20 VTI/VXUS? Or 100% into VT? I just feel like I’m losing out on this $100k just sitting here for all these years. I can’t bring myself to lump sum it. So I plan on automating DCA from fidelity. Just looking for something with average risk nothing exotic.

Thanks!

More background. I DCA into an index portfolio for the past 2 years. I have about $200k in individual tech stocks and $400k in total retirement account’s.

Employer Roth or Personal Roth?

Should I use my employer Roth plan or should I just open a fidelity one? I like the employer offering but I can’t choose anything more than what’s in my 401k. Like my 401k allocations is what my Roth would be and that bothers me. Whereas I can choose the mutual funds in my Perosnal Roth. I can have payroll setup 3% of my salary to go right into the Roth just like I have it now.

Looking for thoughts and opinions

Where would you park $50k

Where would you park $50k? Mid 30s here. Maxed out my Roth for the year and working on my 401k at work. I have a 6 month cash reserve in a CD ladder working for me. I thankfully have no debts or bills. This is just burning a hole in my pocket and I don’t want to blow it on like a car or something silly. I was looking at leaving it in VTI/SCHB. I even considered MLPI just to build an income arm in my portfolio. My main portfolio is just SPYM/VXUS. Looking forward to hearing some ideas.

Breaking Up SGOV

I’m 33 years old and currently have about $100k in SGOV.

I feel like I may have missed out on market gains over the last few years by keeping too much in cash/T-bill-like holdings in my taxable account.

For background:

I already max out my 401(k) and Roth IRA. I also have an inherited taxable account that is mostly invested in tech stocks, ETFs, and oil ($150k position in google and $100k in XOM for example). On top of that, I currently DCA about $200 per week into SPY and FTEC.

The $100k in SGOV was originally intended to be used as home down payment money. However, buying a home has become difficult to commit to because my job, while stable, changes my location every few months. I’m also helping care for elderly family, which takes up time, and I’m currently still able to live with my parents.

Given all of that, I’m considering investing half of the SGOV balance.

My current idea is:

* Move $50k into VTI
* Invest it gradually in $5k weekly increments over 10 weeks
* Keep the remaining $50k in SGOV
* Continue my regular weekly DCA into SPY and FTEC and or change SPY for VTI after I commit.

Does this seem like a reasonable approach given my situation, or am I still being too conservative/aggressive considering this money was originally earmarked for a potential home down payment?

What is the best way to commend a flight attendant?

I was flying Polaris back from Barcelona to EWR on Saturday. The purser on the flight was probably the best one I have had in a long time. Highly professional, highly polished, everything with precision, the list goes on. I felt like I was dealing with the staff from my boss’s yacht. So aside from the united.com/customercare, how else can I let United know this guy is on the ball and then some? I even told the purser on the flight. I said you should be part of the training team for all Polaris and United first-class flight attendants. They should all learn from you.

Upgrade Question

So I am leaving Thursday EWR to BCN. There’s 12 Polaris seats open. I used miles and points to book regular economy. Then I used plus points to put myself on the upgrade list. I’m number 10 on the list. When do they start issuing upgrades? Last time I did a red eye to London I got my plus points upgrade 2 weeks before the departure date.
