Question regarding moving to canada
This thread seems a bit dry like theres not many people so I know this is a longshot to get some answers, but has anyone moved from the US to Canada? Im 32, and currently looking to move to Canada as my GF is currently living there. Ive looks at the express entry situation and filled out all the questions, but I still dont qualify as I dont have a college degree. And they want me to take some sort of English test, even though my native language is english. My problem with that is it not only costs roughly $300 USD here, but it also requires me to take time off work which I cant get. I guess I could just put down a passing score and see if id qualify with that or not, but i havent yet tried that and as it stands I just dont qualify with a score needed for express entry. The score is relatively really high for people who are granted the express entry and I just am not meeting that score. Right now im in the 380 score range, and thats with me putting I have a job offer, and large enough funds to move there. And the score required for express entry is almost a 600.
I currently work in construction. So im assuming my only real option at the moment is getting a work permit through a job offer. Has anyone done this and found success? And how long did the process take. Ive been reading on google about how the process could take 2 weeks to several months. Is that a realistic answer?
I also was curious at how the transition works. Once you get your work permit and an employeer offers you the job, sumbits the paper work and pays the fees, once you are granted the permit, do companies typically set hire dates? Id realistically need 2 to 3 weeks to not only pack up my things in the US, but also to rent a uhaul and driver from the US to Canada and get moved into where my GF lives. Is that realistic? Im assuming companies understand you cant just be there over night, but has anyone done this that has a realistic expectation on what the companies views are as far as time from getting the permit until they expect you to be there, and ready to work?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
