globular cluster M 3 from pflugerville

M 3 also known as NGC 5272 a globular cluster containing about 500k stars located about 34,000 light years away.

this is one of the brightest and largest glubular clusters discovered. It is an extremely old cluster, estimated to be over 11 billion years old.

scientists really dont know what forms globular clusters. they are found in most galaxies. One theory is that it is the remnant of an small galaxy captured by the milky way.
