Worried about DS position being detrimental for SWE

I thought I wanted to do DS but I've realized SWE is my calling lol. I've had 2 internships swe focused and now starting fall I'm starting a DS position with the department of national defence. Im scared that DS would make it way harder to get swe positions for Summer 2026 since DS will be most recent experience and it's also a public sector and outside of that the private companies I previously interned at arent recognizable.

I'm aiming for a recognizable private swe internship but the last 3 weeks with this realization and situation I've been worried and anxious so any insight would be greatly appreciated!

1 app searchable on app store yet the other not despite releasing at the same time

For context they both need each other. 1 is the business side for booking management and the other is where customers book from so they go hand in hand. I really need them both to be searchable before i start marketing and telling people to go to the appstore since if they search it up and dont see the app it defeats the whole purpose and stings on credibility.

Anyone ever in a similar situation? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

[student] Whats wrong with my resume? Trying to get an internship but finding it hard to get an interview

Hey, 3rd year CS Major here. Currently working at a Cybersecurity startup as a software engineer intern but the term is about to end. For context was supposed to end 4 months ago but couldnt land another internship unfortunately so offer extended. My resume hasn't changed much since then other than the multi agent bits.

I've been trying to land a internship at any well known company at toronto like any of the banks, wealthsimple, shopify, any known startups, etc etc, but no luck. I was in the interview process with IBM but barely didn't make the cut. Outside of that no other interviews yet 350+ applications (most withing first day rest within first 3).

Im targeting SWE internship roles at toronto but if its a good private company wouldnt mind relocating or remote. The states seems very attractive to me but in this tough market I dont think its realistic. I've got my resume rated by peers and primarily recieved good feedback and AI has said as a 3rd year student my resume seems a little skeptical but outside of that not sure what to change. ANY feedback would be greatly appreciate!

First ever app got approved!

I've been doing stuff in software for a couple years and recently dabbled into ios development. Been working on an app for the last couple of months and the last 2 weeks have been in the review process. After some back and forth it felt amazing receiving the "Congratulations" email!

I know the process has been very slow but I hope all waiting in the review process get approved!

Is it possible to appeal rejection? Special case?

Apple rejected my app for 5.1.1(v) which is data collection and privacy related. They said the app should not ask for phone number and to remove it since it is not needed for core functionality.

The app is essentially a booking platform with a companion business side app. That app uses the users phone number so the service provider on the business side companion app can reach the client via phone number for updates and such. I used to be a service provider and that functionality is absolutely core from the previous app I used.

Is my only option to make it optional during onboarding (thats where it was rejected)? Or some hope by making it option for onboarding but mandatory during booking. Mandatory when the client is going to finish booking the service?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Condom broke

He used a condom but it ended up breaking while he was inside. He wasnt close to ejaculation but he did feel liquid coming out of his tip but since no orgasm we dont think it was cum but instead precum (but i guess no way to be sure). Its scary as precum can have semen inside and all it takes is one swimmer.

I know in this case chances would be low to medium but the day I had the most discharge in my cycle was July 6th and the next day the discharge slowed down and the day after that not realy any. We had sex on July 12th. Whats concerning is my cycles are really really ireggular and long 40+ days. Not sure if i ovulated by then but took a Plan B just incase within the next 2 hours. Very very scared. I know chances are low but any insight or depth would be greatly appreciated. I do not want to be pregnant im young and I cannot tell my parents.

Bet on myself or play it safe? (Co-op)

CS co-op student at Ottawa uni, this is one of my first work terms. Have to decide within 2 days.

I have one offer in hand: Data Science co-op with the government of Canada, based in Ottawa.

The only thing is that I'm from the GTA area near toronto and live at home over work terms. Taking DND means staying in Ottawa and paying for residence for fall and winter (Winter for school, ottawa university). I'd much rather get a co-op with a Toronto company so I could live at home for free and pocket more of the pay and after go back to ottawa for the winter term.

I applied to basically every Toronto role in the first 2 days postings went up. So far: zero interviews, zero responses. However, I know they just started looking at candidates.

Other context:

  • If I don't do a co-op, I'll just take classes in the fall. So worst case is a normal study term, not nothing in ottawa.
  • Toronto fall co-op interviews seem to be just starting now, so maybe the silence is only "early."
  • I have one 8 month internship outside of coop with a google cloud related startup where I've made AI agents, devops docker work, full stack development, etc.
  • I also have MERN stack and FastAPI project with a modest mix of ML and Fullstack
  • I've had 4 interviews so far (1 rejection, 1 decline, 1 part time summer, 1 dnd)

Do I take the sure thing (DND, but pay to live in Ottawa again), or turn it down and bet a Toronto offer shows up?

TL;DR: Solid DND data science co-op in Ottawa, but I'd have to pay for housing again. Want a Toronto one so I can live at home and save money. No interviews yet but Toronto interviews just started.

Edit:

Thanks all, will be taking the position.
Ideally I want to end up at IBM or a mid/big tech company for my final coop and ive been passing their screens and was even in the interview process before but role got filled up. Reading the comments I think it is beneficial to take the position to achieve a bigger company later on despite my startup experience vouching.
