Scarlet Witch is still in TOBA... Now what?

Hi there. Before we start, let me get the obligatory qualifications out of the way here.

My name is Jokes, and I am consistently a top 50-100 Scarlet Witch main on PC. I generally play in gm lobbies and I have been a Scarlet Witch main since s0. Here is a link to my Rival's Meta page. I also own r/ScarletWitchMains.

Now, I realize many of you have your qualms about my main. I have heard it ALL before.

Speculation about your performance before the match begins, and always the same comments spread around seemingly every online platform.

>"You don't deserve this win, all you did was hold left click!"

>"You don't deserve any buffs."

>"You do not belong in TOBA."

It gets so redundant that I often wonder if everyone is preprogrammed to respond to Scarlet Witch players like this. And really, I think it's safe to say that to a degree EVERYONE in TOBA has faced this type of criticism. The extent Witch receives hate, however, feels deeper.

As if you could never achieve any level of skill expression with Scarlet Witch.

As if Scarlet Witch and her players deserve to feel hated.

As if the player behind the screen is not deserving of kindness at all.

It's no secret that Marvel Rivals has one of the most toxic communities. It doesn't have to be that way.

Most of us are fans of the characters that Marvel raised us with, especially if you grew up in the United States. Please consider that many of us Scarlet Witch players love her from the comics and movies and would just like an opportunity to play their favorite Marvel character in higher ranks.

And even if their first exposure to Scarlet Witch is from the game, so what? Is it really a crime to simply like how a character feels?

I know we all live in a digital world where anonymity leads to all kinds of unfiltered opinions. But I will challenge you with an idea: What if change started with you?

I will make a post in the soon future addressing common misconceptions regarding The Scarlet Witch. I hope you will give me a chance to prove what she can do and what she needs to graduate. Thanks.

Fun moment in my ranked game! Plus commentary

Hiii! I wanted to try something new with my videos and actually use my voice.

Not claiming to be a pro or anything, I just felt very happy I pulled off a team wipe! Even won against Starlord at the end. This was after of course my team audibly groaned (literally, into mic) that I was playing Scarlet Witch too, so this moment was extra satisfying to me.

Did not win that game, sadly. Ended the game with 20 finals + SVP though! 27/8/1 and lost -16 so no big deal.

Mod Introduction Post!

Well hello there my fellow Wanda Maximoff enjoyers!

It's been a little over a week since I took over r/ScarletWitchMains and it seems I am overdue for an introduction.

My name is Jokes (He/They)! I am the new owner here at r/ScarletWitchMains. I am 25 and I have been a dedicated Scarlet Witch main since s0. Her and Jeff the Shark are what drew me to the game at release, and since then I have been a passionate fan of everything Scarlet Witch!

My goal for r/ScarletWitchMains is to foster a healthy community of Scarlet Witch players from all backgrounds regardless of skill level. As such, the rules have been adjusted to reflect that vision.

^(Well, not adjusted. Before I got here this place had zero moderation or rules!)

After a full year of being a Witch main and having to brace the toxicity of liking an off meta character, I attempted to find community with r/ScarletWitchMains. It was then that I made a somewhat popular post that received a lot of backlash, mainly from people who really hated Scarlet Witch. All from just a silly meme I wanted to share!

I quickly realized after trying to reach out to the previous mod here that there was no moderation at all. The previous owner had not even posted in months. So, in desperation to forge a community that I as a Scarlet Witch main have been craving since I started this game, I made an attempt to take the server over. And somehow, I succeeded!

Honestly, I'm just a normal guy who just so happens to love (and be good at) playing Scarlet Witch!

So, going forward, I want it to be known that everything that is done for this subreddit is done with nothing but the best intentions. We are a small mod team of two (hopefully more in the future) and there's a lot to be done here! Regardless, I will hold myself and our team equally accountable for any mistakes we make along the way.

I plan to update the subreddit with more guides (wiki) for all skill levels and work collaboratively within the community to keep this place a continued safe space, ESPECIALLY for marginalized groups. I am a queer, disabled POC myself and I will always fiercely protect this space from people with ill intentions.

You are also welcome to join our Discord to help aid the future of r/ScarletWitchMains! You can find the link to join pinned on the homepage. Although at the time of this post, we locked the discord in response to an influx of bots. It should open again within the next week.

In terms of past posts that may have been a breeding ground of toxicity:

Reach out to us via mod mail on anything you may deem inappropriate for the subreddit. And remember, this is a community for ALL who enjoy Scarlet Witch in the game marvel rivals.

If you have any suggestions for what we should do going forward, feel free to leave a comment and we can talk about it!

I hope you all enjoy your time here and I can't wait to see what this community continues to create.

This ranked season... ugh

This season is rough for me man. I feel like I'm constantly drifting between d1 and gm3. It isn't even a performance issues, I've been so consistent this season I feel and whenever the game drops me too low, it feels like smurfing? Like I will drop 40 elims and few deaths and I just don't like how that feels, especially if I lose anyways.

Some of the best clips I've had this season are from lost games. These are LONG games too, like I really have to fight for the game to even make it to the next round. I still do have a positive win rate, but it feels like I have to sweat so damn hard every single step of the way to get there. And I don't even have it on Witch! I'm sitting at an embarrassing 50% w/r on my main this half season. The character I've built my identity on. My entire career ranked win rate is sitting at 57.9% on witch, so what the heck?

https://preview.redd.it/c8hrsiapyk9h1.png?width=1144&format=png&auto=webp&s=77eed66d2835b6529e134e3661b71d6f33ac9cc6

I've hit GM so many seasons and stayed there but I feel like I'm being pushed off into the Diamond well. I hate the sentiment that "it's not me, it's my team". It's a bad way to think of things and worse on your mental. My God, what do I have to do to win though?

In other competitive games, like when I played Valorant, it felt like I was exactly where I deserved to be. I knew that my losses were because I did poorly and I knew I needed improvement. But here it's like I'm being added into this perpetual Diamond GM soup. I take breaks when I'm tilted, I stay chill and I don't talk bad on my teammates. But it feels like no matter what I do, there's some games I cannot carry. I don't know how to make peace with that.

I then had to spend the last hour/two simply getting back to where I started, GM. So it feels extra wasteful.

Maybe I need a coach or something. I just don't know what to do anymore except keep taking breaks from the game. Maybe it's just solo queue killing me. I really, really do not know.

Here are the games in question I'm venting about. Almost 40 minutes of my life and zero gains from either of them. I'm tired.

Scarlet Witch 101: The correct way to damage.

Hello again, Reddit! Thought I would just double down and continue to post more basics on utilizing Wanda’s kit to the fullest. Short video this time, about the number one misconception about Scarlet Witch.

“So, just hold left click, right?”

Nope! This is actually the least optimal way to play her. In this video I demonstrate the raw damage potential in a GM level game.

Many of you Witch players already know this, but for those visiting the reddit or just picking up the character, this is for you.

Her primary is meant to be used as a reloading tool first. You should always aim to land all of your right clicks before relying on her primary. This will maximize your kill potential and damage.

Now, this is just a generalized idea of how to play her. You can actually do more by stacking her passive fully again before going for kills if you’ve depleted it. It builds very quickly and can be more effective than constantly using right click off cooldown.

For you more experienced Witches, I recommend trying to play around with her passive more and preventing it from being fully drained. The damage you get from landing all the bursts is more important than consistent harassment sometimes. A good situation to practice this on is when two supports are patty caking. You’re better off recharging her passive fully before attempting to get a pick as you will just be farming enemy support ult charge. As you get better at this, you may be able to judge exactly how many stacks will be needed to kill. This is most optimal.

As usual I will actively participate in the comments to address any questions and explain anything not clear in the post.

Using Scarlet Witch's phase to bait out free kills. A simple but great way to generate value.

Play close to your tank as much as you can. These situations are very common and good for you. Always look for more opportunities to make plays. Remember: It's not about the kit, it's about how you use it.

The scariest moment I've had this season

Seriously don't know how I survived this one. Plot armor was heavy that day.

Scarlet Witch DOESN’T need a complete rework. Here’s why:

https://preview.redd.it/j1rinw140t8h1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=2fdb310bca8cb8bc92586b2675421d9c180809ee

Many people’s first thought of Scarlet Witch is her kit design or lack of viability across higher ranks. While it is true that she does struggle in higher ranks, I think it generally is because of one core reason. I believe that most people who write her off have drastically misused her. Let me explain.

Without giving too much word slop, her core identity revolves around the simplicity of her kit. However, simplicity does NOT inherently mean a low skill ceiling like what many claim. She thrives on taking drastic off angles and having deep game sense, often being punished much harder than others for misplays. But this is not a discussion on how difficult she is to master.

She is not only an aggressive flanker or a front to back peeler, she’s actually primarily a brawler. She thrives in close combat fights where you rely on your secondary fire —cthonian burst — to deal heavy splash damage while stunning whatever threat may prevent you from reaping your kill. Why does this matter? Because in order to properly balance Scarlet Witch, you must lean into the strengths she already has.

This is why my balance propositions are simple:

  1. 275 HP
  2. Healing + Overheal in her phase
  3. another charge on Cthonian Burst
  4. Remove the strange team up, either by adding as a permanent ability or removing it all together. Quite frankly, the other changes would be more than enough. Either way, she needs to become an anchor for higher elo viability. Perhaps even bringing back the Magneto team up.

These tweaks will allow her to self sustain without fundamentally altering her play style or changing her full kit. Majority of the dps roster, including many heavy poke heroes have 275 hp already. Even moon knight can generate shield. While there is nothing inherently wrong with this play style, it strikes a bit odd that Scarlet Witch fights much closer than him or squirrel girl and does not have any self sustain or equal health.

That’s all. Jokes, out.

Edit: minor typo corrections. Reddit formatting hates me

Edit 2: Added my art I drew bc it looked cooler :)

Looking for Sanctum Sorcerers

Hello fellow sorcerer supremes. I have come to bargain.

I am a Scarlet Witch main with one problem: I can never find our dearest doctor on my team! So I humbly come here looking for a duo to change this.

Why me? Well, for one, I am a pretty good witch! With over a 60% w/r in diamond/gm WITHOUT the teamup mostly, we will run ranked like it’s the avengers. I will also draw us a cute picture of our mains to celebrate our future duoship (yes, I am THAT desperate).

Feel free to peep my tracker and my spot on leaderboards. My IGN is OutdatedJoke.

Current rank: Diamond 2

Region: NA with stable ping across country (west preferred tho)

Times I can play: Almost always

platform: PC

Age: 25

Other lords I have: Rogue, Squirrel Girl, Jeff and Cloak and Dagger. Working on Devil Dino on the side too (when he isn’t banned).

FYI I am sorry the second image is so much smaller. The image I saved was tiny ig lol. Too lazy to change it, I accidentally deleted my first post and had to retype this whole thing.

Edit: Specified Platform to PC
