Why do OTA guests keep cancelling and rebooking the same rooms with the same rate?

Over the last few months I've noticed a pattern of sorts:

- We will receive an OTA booking
- Sometime after the guest will cancel the OTA booking, and then make a new one... for the same dates, and with the same rate...

Sometimes this happens on the day they made the first booking, sometimes it will be weeks after...

However one important detail to mention is: there are absolutely no differences between the reservations:

- They have the same check-in date
- They have the same check-out date
- The guest names are the same
- They have the same room categories

They are absolutely identical.

But it will just keep getting cancelled and rebooked. Sometimes this happens 3-4 times with the same reservation.

I have no idea what is going on.

Is this some sort of scam? Are they hoping that I'll miss an update and try to charge the wrong virtual card, while they will try to claim to the OTA that they did in fact not show up and want a refund?

They made fun of us!!!

*this is a machine translated review from a website where people go to report actual grievances... essentially one step before reporting to the Better Business Bureau...

The events as they transpired:
- The reviewer had a reservation for the restaurant of the hotel
- The reviewer and their friends took to having an impromptu photo session in the hotel's general areas after dinner
- Foreign hotel guests (people who were actually staying at the hotel) saw them, pointed and laughed
- The Front Desk staff is being accused of "not intervening" on behalf of the people who were taking the photos

I'm sorry madam, but I'm not going to make someone who is paying me $500 per night apologize to you, when you paid $70 for your dinner.

But I'm an INFLUENCAH!!!

I work as night auditor for a boutique hotel, we're a standalone property, and the hotel is aimed at more luxury level guests.

The hotel is designed very beautifully and aesthethically, so much so that almost all corners of the hotel is a potential background for a photo op.

On top of being the NA, I have also been given access to the hotel's social media accounts to ensure swift responses to DM's inquiring about the hotel.

But the owners of the hotel do not care for influencers at all (rightfully so imo). We do not do collaborations, we do not have an "influencer only" rate.

That does not stop them from asking though. Or getting sassy with us when they realize their "influencer special" rate is just 5% trimmed off of our rack rate.

That is all fine and dandy (not fine, but still par for the course), but the thing that really gets my heckles up are the ones who are not even bothering to book a room, but still want a photoshoot at the hotel.

There are different types of these; ones that are "travel bloggers", ones that "give reviews of local spots", and ones that run an online clothing boutique out of their instagram account... which is the worst type... they come over with like 7 luggages for an overnight stay...

Some of these influencers even include "drone shots" in their proposal... Whatever gave you the idea that the hotel needs drone shots... let alone is willing to accomodate you... or give you free stuff...

But the worst offenders in my opinion are the ones that don't even bother to ask... The hotel has a restaurant... and for some unknown reason, these people assume that eating at the restaurant should grant them unfettered access to all areas of the hotel to hold their impromptu editorial photo shoot...

Last season I had to kick so many people out telling them "This is a hotel, not a photo studio and the hotel guests are entitled to their privacy, therefore unlimited photography for restaurant guests is not allowed".

This season, the management made the wise decision to block off access to the hotel from the restaurant during dinner service. (The restaurant serves dinner only and has a seperate entrance as well)

Do you want to guess what is happening now? We are getting review bombed because these poor influencers were denied access to hotel's guest only areas even though that was the only reason they made a reservation at the restaurant...

Let me re-iterate that... The reason they made a reservation at the restaurant was not to eat and enjoy their dinner at the restaurant... but because they thought reserving a table at the restaurant granted them an "access all areas" card for the hotel...

Somebody save me...

First Season needs to be different

Hear me out...

I'm not saying plot points need to change.

I think chronology needs to change.

In my humble opinion, I think it will be better for pacing if we start the first episode with Feyre running to UtM and surrendering herself, and anything that happens before UtM is shown as flashbacks.

In book form, the chronology makes sense, but in a show format the story will be too slow paced and people who haven't read the books will get bored and viewership will drop and the show will be cancelled before season 2.

In a show format, in order to keep the watcher engaged, pacing will be better if we start at UtM and what happened before is shown in flashbacks.

WIBTA if I wore my wedding dress to another wedding?

For the record, this is not a real or ongoing situation, just something that came up to my mind.

I'm planning to get married this year, and since it's going to be my second wedding, and a much smaller one, I'm thinking of going non-traditional in terms of my wedding dress and getting something colorful.

Think either a blush, a baby blue, or light dusty gray toned dress with colorful floral embellishments.

In short, my wedding dress would likely look more like a wedding guest dress than a wedding dress.

Considering that, after my wedding, if I wore my wedding dress to another wedding, WIBTA?

Would your answer change if the Bride in the second wedding knew that was my wedding dress, or not?

For those who need a visual aid to know what way I'm leaning towards, please see the pinterest board screenshot below:

HOW TF AM I SUPPOSED TO MAKE THE ARRANGEMENTS IN THE NIGHT SHIFT?

I'm the NA for a boutique property, we're very small so basically understaffed.

The FOM is essentially the AM shift, the regular PM shift person is on leave, so the only person on the PM shift right now is an intern.

While I was off the clock, the FOM tagged me in the group chat, on a screenshot of a direct message from an upcoming guest who wants to arrange a special dinner for their wife's birthday. The FOM essentially said to "handle this".

I private messaged the FOM and asked her "Was the GM and the F&B Manager informed?"

She responded with "I'm not the follow up for it, who was the follow up?"

...

... breathe in...

... breathe out...

God give me the serenity...

I really wanted to tell her off...

I clock in at midnight.

I can reply to the guest's message, if you inform me what arrangements have been made.

But if you want to dump the entire responsibility of it on me, including making the arrangements, you're going to have to wait.

Because the GM and the F&B Manager will be sleeping when I clock in.

And I'm not going to be working while I'm supposed to be sleeping.

So if you want me to handle it, it's going to be tomorrow.

So I responded with "Ok then I'll talk with the GM and the F&B Manager tomorrow morning".

It took everything in me not to write back "WTF DO YOU MEAN? Do you honestly expect me to work over the phone, and make arrangements for a private dinner for a guest while I'm supposed to be sleeping and you're still at the hotel??? And you couldn't be bothered with just relaying the guest's request in the past 3 hours since they made it??? So now you're dumping it on me, without taking any action, even though you still can because you're clocking out soon???"

Just two more months... just two more months and I'm free of this place...

Geeky Hobbies

I am planning to move to Amsterdam within the year, and I find myself worried about my hobbies and social circle.

I am a geek at heart, I like playing TTRPG's (mainly VtM and D&D) and board games.

I'm sure there are several TTRPG and Board Game shops and cafés, I'm looking for recommendations in terms of both physical (shops & cafés) and virtual spaces (like facebook groups, discord servers and maybe even subreddits).

I am open to recommendations as to where I can find my people.

Suxpedia doesn't understand refunds

So...

A guest made a reservation on Suxpedia "accidentally". A non-refundable reservation. They cancelled it almost immediately, which is within the grace period.

But Suxpedia already charged the guests card. So now Suxpedia is asking for a refund.

I told them that the virtual card hasn't been charged so there is nothing to refund and the cancellation has to be approved by the GM tomorrow morning after 11 AM to be classified as no-penalty.

So the guest decided "if we can't get a refund we might as well go" so they are now trying to un-cancel their reservation.

But appearently Suxpedia can not reinstate a cancelled reservation. The guest has to make a new reservation.

So Suxpedia is asking for a refund once again. And I keep telling them there is nothing to refund. That the virtual card hasn't been charged yet.

They hit me with "but the guest has been charged"

...

BY YOU!!! YOU are the one who charged the guest... I am supposed to charge you, but I haven't. So you can void your virtual card and refund the guest without my approval...

Or just make a new reservation and transfer the guest's payment to the new reservation...

BUT NOOO... they have to cancel and refund the guest so the guest can be charged again... for the same reservation...

I... AM... LIVID!!!

I am so utterly mad right now.

The property I work as a Night Auditor for is a boutique property.

The LLC was established in a different city than the one we are in, because there are two partners and one of them lives in that city.

We are also by law required to print official guest lists every night.

These are numbered legal documents, and the paper they're printed on comes to us numbered from the press. Like physical invoices used to be.

The property began business last year in May.

We were delivered a stack of these papers that were Series A, starting with number 1001.

There were 250 pages, so naturally we ran out a couple of days ago. (You don't have to print an empty one for nights where there are no occupants).

Several days before we were due to run out of these papers, I let the upper management know.

I was told "new" ones were ordered.

Do you want to know what arrived as "new"?

Series A... starting with number 0001... going to number 1000.... the first batch we should have started with...

So now the first 1000 pages batch is not only completely unusable, but also have to be physically written on "CANCELLED"... and then archived... and we still need new ones... FML...

ETA: the numbers don't actually have to start at 0001. That's why we didn't catch it last year. We thought we were starting with 1001.

This is how I imagine The Archeron Sisters in my head.

My Feyre is Florence Hunt. Beautiful, but not striking. You might know her as Hyacinth in Bridgerton.

My Elain is Sadie Sink. A soft beauty. Most known for playing Max on Stranger Things.

My Nesta is Freya Allan. Angular, striking gorgeous face. She plays Ciri in The Witcher.

It's a long story, but I'm moving countries soon, and my first name is hard to pronounce where I'm moving.

I'm thinking of adopting an easier "daily use" name that won't be on any legal documents.

My given name ends with "-lin" and my last name soon will begin with K, so I'm looking for a first name that could use Link as a nickname.

The title says it, so here's the analogy.

Imagine there's 3 girls from the same high school, they're friendly acquaintances, but not super close while in HS. They go out of state to the same university, so the three of them become closer in Uni.

One of the girls starts dating someone. It goes well for a while, but they break up, and leading up to and after the break up the other two are there for her, consoling her, wiping her tears as she cries night after night.

Then someone asks the two other girls "What happened with them?" and one of the girls answers "I'm not sure, I didn't hear his side of the story yet"...

I feel like that girl is the Tamlinists, and I'm the third girl looking at her like "WTF?".

Because how are you going to stay by her side through those nights, wipe away her tears, and when it comes down to it, you're going to say "idk I need his side of it as well"... How are you not on the side of your hometown girl? Like thank you for letting me know you're not a girl's girl, but if that's how you truly feel, can you please go away???
