The Drama (Minor Spoilers)

I have a very simple questions for all of you: Would you have left? I’m a high school teacher so my coworkers and I had very strong opinions about this movie. I personally would have, but I can understand why not everyone would.

Dilemma aside, this was a great film. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen movie where I haven’t been able to stop discussing it with friends and family. We all have skeletons in our closet, but what makes this film so captivating is that I really don’t know what my limits would be in terms of what I would be willing to accept from my partner. I’m very interested to hear all of your thoughts on this.

Dr. Baram (Spoilers)

Anyone else find Paul’s dynamic with Dr. Baram odd? She is essentially still married to a man who is in a nursing home due to dementia and has jumped into a relationship with another man who will soon be incapacitated as well. Not to mention Paul was also her patient. Am I the only one who found this to be really weird and a huge red flag?

We don’t talk enough about the pain of real breakups

Hi everyone, I just wanted to vent about how painful real breakups can be. I’m a 37m and last year I experienced my what I believe to be my first real breakup. What do I mean by real? I mean a breakup in which I genuinely don’t believe I will ever see or hear from that person again.

Just to add some context, I have had plenty of breakups before, but I wouldn’t say they were clean. Usually I would date someone for a few months and then either I would end things, or the other person would, and down the road we would still be in touch either through genuine friendship or breadcrumbing. My last breakup was different. I formed a deep connection with someone that I dated for four months and I ended things due to her not wanting to commit. It’s been nothing but silence since last November. We don’t follow each other on social media (I unfollowed her after three months of no contact), she lives 45 minutes away from me, and we don’t have mutual friends. We had a very amicable split, but unless I reach out, I genuinely don’t believe I will ever hear from her again and there’s not even a chance I will ever run into her by accident.

Why am I sharing this story? Because it genuinely feels like this person that I had a genuine connection with has died. I know she’s out there living her life and I genuinely hope she’s happy, but man, what a crazy feeling to experience. I will never see or hear from a person that I had weekly hour long phone calls with and the most amazing dates ever. Anyway, I just wanted to vent about how crazy it is to truly lose someone you built a connection with and would love to hear your stories. I’m better now and my life is good, but the grief I went through is something I will never forget.

Friendzone advice from someone who’s been there

Hello everyone, I’ve stumbled upon this thread and wanted to offer some advice. I’m a 37 year old male who’s been friendzoned multiple times in the past, however, it has not happened to me in years and I wanted to offer some perspective. The most important thing I want all of you to know is that if you romantically pursue someone, and they tell you that they’re not ready for a relationship and/or they just want to be friends, you need to leave immediately. Do not do the following things under any circumstances:

  1. Do not stick around hoping things will change
  2. Do not research or try different methods and tactics you see online to win them over
  3. Do not date anyone else hoping to get them jealous
  4. Do not become excited or overtly attached if you feel they’re coming around. They’re just testing the waters to see if you’re still available.

It is possible to escape the friendzone, but you genuinely have to be completely detached from that person in order to shift the dynamic. Just detach and leave. Save yourself years of time wasted.

Attachment theory and/or Disinterest

Has anyone on here ever dated someone that really made you question whether you have an insecure attachment style or just disinterested? For example, I’m a 37m and currently have been seeing someone for over a month who treats me pretty well. She’s consistent, kind, and comes from a good family. She has good qualities, however, I notice that when I’m not with her I don’t really think about her and I genuinely don’t feel strongly about our connection. When we’re not on dates we barely text and have only talked on the phone once for about 5 minutes. This whole situation has made me overthink things more than I ever have in the past. I genuinely cannot tell if I genuinely have an insecure attachment style or if maybe this person is just not right for me. The only reason I’m still dating this person is because I’m afraid that if I end things prematurely I’ll regret it in the future, but I also genuinely do not want to waste this persons time.

Limerence

What did you guys do to finally move on from someone who was amazing but couldn’t meet you where you wanted? For context, last November I decided to end things with someone who I was really falling in love with. She was sweet, empathetic, funny, beautiful, etc. We had great dates, amazing phone calls, and we both respected each other and told each other how much we valued our connection, however, she admitted to me two months in that she struggles with commitment. After three and a half months of dating I told her I would like us to be exclusive and she told me she’s not in a place in her life to give me what I want. I told her I could not see her anymore and her last words to me were “I respect you”. We’ve been in no contact since. I researched attachment theory (I’m pretty positive she’s FA), have great hobbies, spend lot of time with the people I love, started therapy, have put myself out there, removed her from my social media, and yet I still can’t get over her completely. Any constructive advice would be greatly appreciated right now.

Red Rising series thoughts

Hi everyone, I’m finishing up Golden Son and have some thoughts. First, I want to start off by saying that these are some of the most entertaining books I’ve ever read. I love the world building, characters, and the overall story, however, I need to be blunt about something. I don’t mean to be rude, but I feel like these books were written by someone with very severe ADHD. I’ve genuinely never read a book in my entire life that I felt moved way too fast until I read Red Rising and Golden Son. Do the later books get better in terms of pacing? I wish the story was a little more centered.

Tired of the disrespect

Anyone else feel like we’re the most disrespected professions out there? I’ve been seeing so many posts lately across social media of people who genuinely believe we have an easy job that is well compensated because we have summers off. I’ve even heard it directly from people and I always just take the high road. It’s honestly insane to me. If my job is so easy, well compensated, and I have all of this amazing time off, then you do it 🙂

Need Advice

Hi guys, I’m looking at a sweet Golden Doodle named Samara. She is three months old, is expected to be 30 pounds, from a reputable breeder that says she’s calm and affectionate, and looks very sweet. I am a single high school teacher living in an apartment. This year I will be completing my masters program and will be taking two classes total this semester once a week for each. Is this doable or am I setting myself up for failure?

Need to settle this debate once and for all

Hi everyone, I need to settle this debate once and for all. I want to start off by saying that I think it’s a huge green flag when someone I’m seeing has friends from both genders. Now that that’s out of the way my question is this: Men, would you be comfortable with your girlfriend spending 1:1 time with another man? Ladies, would you be comfortable with your boyfriend spending 1:1 time with another woman? I have gotten so many different answers to this question and I’m genuinely curious what everyone on here has to say. I want to approach dating from a healthy place and this has always been something that I’ve been torn about.

Hinge Thoughtful Signals

Hi everyone, I wanted to get your opinion on this new Hinge feature after I share mine. I personally think this is the worst feature I have ever seen in a dating app for so many reasons. I genuinely don’t see the point in it. Why would I want a notification informing me that the person I matched with is currently talking to someone else? I understand that in the early stages of dating everything is fair game, but why would I need that thrown in my face? It’s very off putting and I don’t want the person I’m dating to know that I’m talking to other people either. I also believe that it’s a disservice to people who have not had the best luck getting matches. Not having a badge could signal to some people that you’re not desirable even though that’s not the case at all. I think Hinge needs to delete this feature considering people allready have a negative perception of dating apps.

Segway Max G3 Vs F3

Hi everyone, I recently returned my Segway Max G2 because after two months of riding it the rear suspension was making an unbearable noise that not even silicone lubricant could fix it. I’m not stuck between a Max G3 and an F3. Which one should I get? The F3 is on sale for $649 and the Max G3 is on sale for $999. $999 is a little steep, but if it’s really worth it I’ll pay.

(37M) Left on Read before date with (35F)

Hey guys, how would you feel if a person you have a date with left you on read during a thoughtful conversation? It’s not a dealbreaker, but it does bother me, especially since our date is tomorrow. I typically try not to text too much before a first date so that we can have more to talk about, but in the middle of genuinely trying to get to know this person I was left on read two days ago.

“The expectation is …”

A teacher has gone viral on the Today Show for saying his classroom completely changed by replacing the words “I need you to…” to “The expectation is …”. What are your thoughts?

Hello everyone, last November I made the difficult decision to leave a relationship of 3 and half months . We met on Hinge, had a strong connection, but she didn’t want to be exclusive after telling me multiple times we were dating intentionally. Since that time I have discovered attachment theory, have been in therapy for the first time in my life, and have really put in the work to better myself. I really want to get back out there again but I’m wondering if dating apps are the way to go? I feel like dating apps attract way too many emotionally unavailable people and I genuinely don’t know what to do. What are your thoughts?
