Featuring Mr. Bluefin Killifish

I have had such a fun time researching, planning, and learning! What a fun process and I am so happy to join this community and hobby!

I accidentally ended up with two bluefin killifish, and I’ve realized I really enjoy having a fish (or pair) that I can actually tell apart and name. My schooling fish are awesome, but they are just a big group to me. The killifish have a lot more personality than I expected.

Tank is a heavily planted 40g rimmed breeder with:

What would you add as a colorful centerpiece fish or pair that would do well in a planted community tank and hopefully leave the shrimp alone? I have seen no aggression or fin nipping between any of my stock. Was planning on waiting a bit for shrimp population to get bigger. I’ve looked at German blue rams, apistos, and a few killifish species, but I’m curious what people have had the best luck with.

Caught this dangerous guy hiding under a rock. Luckily only killed one shrimp before finding it. Surprised how slow they are compared to their aerial predator parents. I saw Reddit posts of this happening so I was in the lookout after I found only the tail of a shrimp

Can anyone Id this fish from the video. I can try to upload better pics or videos. It appeared one day as a small fry. Female Bluefin killifish? I know it’s hard to ID some fish, but I’d like to get her a partner if i can!

I have had my tank for almost 3 months. I have small amounts of hair algae as well as staghorn. When i trim my plants i have been also surveying for leaves and such with staghorn algae growing. Then cutting the leaf or stem to remove algae.

TLDR: Do i continue to cut staghorn algae off when i see it or are there better methods.

Hard to get focus of these with phone camera. A little boop makes them move! Didn’t know they can retract and such
