I live in Carteret and switched back to XFINITY after having Optimum fiber installed. Anyone who lives in Carteret have they fixed the issue of disconnects.

I just cancelled my Optimum service. Reading the horror stories of people trying to cancel I did following things.
1 - File a complaint with the FCC. Optimum will assign you an Executive CS to contact you.
2 - Remove autopay from your account if you have it. Also remove your bank account information from your account as well. They cannot charge you without this info. Do this right after you file the complaint to the FCC or before your rep calls you.
3 - When Executive CS calls you cancel on the spot. My rep did it without any sales pitch or anything. She did say she has many cases she is trying to get to but is way behind.
4 - Tell the CS you would like the cancellation request sent to your email.
5 - return your equipment asap to a Optimum store. Get a email receipt and printed receipt.
I did all this and the process went smoothly.

I recently switched from XFINITY back in June to Optimum Fiber. If interested I posted in the Optimum forum of my experience.
Optimum in my town was not ready for prime time. After the fiber install multiple disconnects per day. It wasn’t only me it was everyone I talked to my town who switched.
Just went back to XFINITY yesterday. Very easy process got the XB8 modem activated it and then put it into bridge mode and reconnected to my mesh. Whole process took around 20mins.
I have had XFINITY as an ISP for over 15 years and it has been rock solid. Optimum made me see that the grass isn’t always greener on the other sides.
The good part is that I qualified for new customer pricing. $50 for 1GB internet for five years.
Can a mod reach out to me looking to go back to XFINITY Internet.
Well back in June Optimum Fiber came to my area. $50 for 2GB symmetrical fiber I can’t pass this up.
Well the first 2 weeks were good no disconnects and everything running smoothly. Over the last month connection started acting up, 1 minute disconnects 3 to 4 times a day.
I filed a complaint to the FCC and was assigned a “Executive Support” person from Optimum support. They originally reached out to me the same day but since then I have been ghosted by the rep.
Over the last week the connection issues have decreased to maybe once a day which is still not satisfactory. Others in my town of Carteret NJ also have filed complaints but as me were ghosted.
I left XFINITY coax which was rock solid for me. I never had to worry about disconnects from XFINITY it just worked.
I will give Optimum a couple more days to try and address the issue. As I said last couple of days the connection has been good besides that one disconnect. If these disconnects continue I will switch back to Xfinity.
Also switching to Optimum lead me to setup my own mesh network which runs great. So switching back to Xfinity will be straight forward, as all I have to do is put their gateway into bridge mode and reconnect my mesh. I am also looking into getting my own modem for Xfinity.
Optimum it’s in your hands, but reading threads on this subreddit I am not hopeful this will be resolved.
Also as an added bonus I get the new customer pricing from XFINITY.
I was browsing Optimum’s website. I put my neighbors address in to see if Fiber was available to them and it is.
I noticed now Optimum offers not only their Gateway WiFi Combo l, but now offer a stand alone only modem. I currently have their 6E Gateway in Bridge Mode but I wonder if this new stand alone modem they offer now is just a customer ONT for people who use their own equipment.
Please post of you live in Carteret or surrounding areas with new Fiber install. I am starting to get these 30 second disconnects.

I currently have Optimum Fiber 2GB internet. On the WAN side I see Optimum’s DNS. When I setup DHCP on the BE63 I set the IP Scope but for DNS I setup Google’s 8.8.8.8 DNS and CloudFlair’s 1.1.1.1 .
Will this cause any issues or should I change the DHCP DNS to Optimum’s DNS.

Have the second one on second floor as an AP everything is great WiFi on both floors are excellent.
I do also have a first floor which is my rec room and the WiFi is good as well.
I have a GoCoax 1GB Moca adapter connected in my rec room to my WiFi router in the office. I was thinking of installing a third BE63 and using the Moca connection as backhaul to my main router.
I just don’t want to over saturate my WiFi in the house.

Besides one outage due to the modem software upgrade 2 days after new service installed it has been rock solid.

Just had Optimum Fiber 3 days ago. Around 2am this morning internet went down.
I rebooted modem this morning same issue. Reached out to Mod here and they said maintenance was going on something about updating modem software. Mod even gave me a ticket number.
Well 9am goes by still down. I called Optimum support now they said they need to send a tech out maybe a wiring problem wtf.
I’ve been in IT for 36 years so I’m did my own troubleshooting. It’s a brand new install how can it be a wiring problem.
Luckily I still have my XFINITY service to the 11th was going to cancel the service this Saturday but now I rethinking this.
Just got OpT Fiber Monday everything was fine until late last night when Internet went down. Called CS they said there is maintenance going on until 9am.
I live in Carteret NJ. Can a Mod here verify that maintenance is going on in my town.
Not a good start Optimum. I still have XFINITY until Saturday haven’t cancelled them yet.
Just wanted to give a positive review for my new install of Optimum Fiber which came to neighborhood around a month ago.
Installer arrived around 12:30 pm. Installation windows was from 11-2 pm.
Very professional installer and a nice guy. Everything I asked him to do with the install he did.
Had to put my gateway into Bridge Mode. Reache
out to Optimum rep via chat. Took 10 mins to turn on Bridge Mode and turn off gateway WiFi.
Definitely getting my 2GB upload and download. Had a 2.5 GB usb Ethernet adapter. Pulled down around 1900 mg upload was around 1800.
Tested the internet speed with my Deco app. Tested download at 2.1 GB and upload around 1.9 gb.
Overall very good experience. I am coming from XFINITY which refused to even negotiate with me about my plan. Had 2GB plan with them for $105 a month. Optimum same plan for $50 a month.
If Optimum goes down hill then I have the option to switch back to XFINITY.
I am standing by Internet for up and running.
I am getting Optimum Fiber installed today what can I expect. Here is what I am planning to do.
I purchase a TP-Link BE 63 Mesh network. I already did a dry run on installing them. WiFi signal is strong.
Can the tech call Optimum to put their gateway in bridge mode and disable WiFi or do I have to reach out to the Mod on this Subreddit?
FYI been in IT for 36 years and have setup many networks for companies. I think this would be pretty easy for me.
Thoughts or suggestions would be great.
I am getting Optimum Fiber installed on Monday. I recently posted here to see if XFINITY would be willing to work with me to lower my bill.
