I love my different 990 991 New Balances but they seem to look more worn after several months and look worse than the 3 year old Asics Gel NYC that my son gave me and the comfort seems comparable to me

Does it sound reasonable to raise one end of a sharpening stone to a specific angle then holding you knife horizontally to sharpen?
