Olathe City Council to consider adding Halo Act to city code

>On Tuesday, the Olathe City Council will consider adding Kansas’ new “Halo Act” to its own Public Offense Code, about six weeks after the controversial measure became state law.

>The law will remain in Olathe even if the city council votes against it tomorrow. That means that even if the city council declines to adopt the Halo Act provision, it would remain enforceable as a state law.

>Still, adding the ordinance to Olathe’s Public Offense Code would allow violations to also be prosecuted in Olathe Municipal Court.

New bar (Nuri's) coming to 10909 Frontage Rd

Former spot that houses Rent-A-Center a while back near the former location of Pine & Bamboo garden. No idea on ETA but tables and chairs were visible inside and they had a bunch of new TVs in boxes

Drastic Measures + Wild Child -Jay should never work service again

This has been happening for a while but I’ve finally felt comfortable enough to post this from a burner after making sure other people were comfortable with this being public. To be clear, the entire Kansas and Missouri service industry community is aware—we just haven’t told the public.

Jay Sanders, the face of both Drastic Measures and Wild Child bars in Shawnee is at the very least a sex pest and at his worst deeply violent. To date, there are six sexual harassment complaints from staff that have gone nowhere in terms of resolution. I want to point out that this is the failing of the rest of ownership—a sex pest would never reprimand themselves.

He recently ‘checked in‘ to a facility after violently choking a staff member, in view of other staff, at a company party. There is no record of him attending any in or outpatient facilities and he was seen at the front door of the property, unable to enter, two days after he shared on social media that he was ‘in treatment.’

So, why is this guy protected from consequence? Why do the operators continue to grant him access to the staff, without telling their newly hired members of his previous incidences? How does this person continue to operate a bar with impunity?

He’s a danger to himself, the staff, and anyone who cares about their community. I am sick of the service industry ‘passing priests’. Enough.

From the bottom of my heart: Jay, you are the problem. It’s you. Please leave an already beleaguered industry the fuck alone and go do your stepped on coke far the fuck away from the rest of us. You‘re not an ally, you’re just a white boy on a white horse that no one wanted or even requested. Goodbye.

Pump shaft seal failed, motor got water inside, sounds like hell. Any way to get it apart and replace individual bearings? Or is it pressed/sealed?

Replaced an old single speed motor on an old Hayward Super Pump with a Century Variable speed motor back in May 2023. Used a new set of shaft seal parts, however the seal failed and water got to the motor face. Came home last night to it grinding loud and immediately shut it down. Took it apart and the flange face is corroded to hell, is there any chance to tear down the motor?

Pics: Today and May 2023 (new)

Motor: Century (A.O. Smith) 1.65 HP Motor, V-Green, Round Flange 56J, Variable Speed, 208-230V - Model ECM16CU

Free Johnson County shuttle to KCI for the World Cup is running

Try out the new bus!

>buses running from the Overland Park Convention Center and Lenexa City Center to KCI every half hour throughout most of the day. The program is expected to conclude in September.

>The program will end when funding runs out, Welker said. After that, it will be studied to see if ridership numbers are substantial enough to justify making it a permanent route in the future.

>“The World Cup was the impetus for this innovative infrastructure experiment. The hope is that it gives us an opportunity to show our community what can be possible when we intentionally invest in infrastructure,” Johnson County County Commission Chair Mike Kelly said in an email to the Johnson County Post.

Johnson County Election Office cuts 8 early voting sites, drawing pushback from elected leaders

This should be concerning to everyone, Johnson County has the largest number of registered voters in the state, and those sites have been funded in the county budget, and in years past have been busy during early voting.

Chef Dream Kasestatad has spent over a decade firing up Thai cuisine cross-country in his mobile kitchen, Pranom Pop-Up—and to much acclaim. On Saturday, Pranom Pop-Up stops at Servaes Brewing Company (10921 Johnson Dr., Shawnee) to bring authentic Thai fare to KC. Marking Kasestatad’s first time in the metro

Have emailed support several times, after my Fiber service line was knocked off the nearby 2 poles and left laying on the yard in early March after a storm came through r/shawnee. Yet it's now coming up on 2 months later, with no fix

  • March 7th - Storm sweeps through, 1 utility pole is destroyed, fiber is pulled of a 2nd pole
  • March 8th - Electrical utility comes and replaces the pole in the early morning hours
  • March 8th (10:25a) - File my ticket with Fiber, to have my fiber re hung on both poles
  • March 8th (12:22p) - Support responds (quickly) gives me an initial timeline - "Your ticket number is: 06070686, it can take up to 10 days to be completed."
  • March 9th - GFiber branded trucks come and work on neighbors fiber, mine remains untouched
  • March 20th - Contractor from ECC asks for backyard access to "take photos for my ticket"
  • March 26th - I contact support again, as more than 10 days have elapsed
  • March 27th - Support apologizes for the delay, and let's me know - "Your repair is currently tied to Work Order WO-2057634, which is in the "Planned" stage." and tells me that "Field Operations expect to have your cable rehung and secured within the next 5 business days."
  • April 10th - Unsurprisingly, nothing has happened. I reach out to support and they drop all promises and only offer "At this stage, the resolution is in the hands of our Field Operations department, as they manage the physical dispatch of crews to service addresses. While I do not have a new specific date from them yet, marking this as a repeat follow-up typically helps move the order through the planning phase."

What can be done to finally resolve this? It is mowing season, the line crosses over both mine and my neighbors lawn, as time goes on, the chance of breakage or damage only increases. I have waited, with seemingly little progress

“Downtown Shawnee is no longer a pass-through area. It’s a destination. But although how people are coming to downtown has evolved, Johnson Drive has not fully kept up with that pace,” he said.

While the city deserves credit for adding more parking over the years — with 560 public parking spaces now available downtown, according to the city — more needs to be done, Shackelford said.

“One of the easiest, low-cost things to do is to add on-street parking through the downtown corridor, primarily on Johnson Drive … I think it’s time to revisit that as an opportunity to help the downtown area become a destination,” he said.
