How to stop Alexa from turning on my lights at 5 AM

Today I was trying to turn on the lights, but somehow Alexa misheard me and responded "Okay, I'll turn on the lights tomorrow at 5 AM".

Does anyone know how to undo a request like this? I use standard Alex (not Alexa+) and Hue lights.

Help diagnosing failing drive

A friend came to me for help with a failing drive. The drive is a 2.5" Seagate Barracuda 7200 rpm hdd (2TB) formatted with Windows NTFS. Initially the drive is recognized by the OS, but when reading from the drive it randomly hangs and disappears from the OS. Rebooting typically brings the drive back.

I initially suspected corrupt files and/or bad sectors were causing the problems as it often seems the drive hangs when reading specific files, but there are many of these files.

I've since moved the drive to an external enclosure and attempted to clone using ddrescue, but that too eventually fails when the drive disappears from the OS. The ddrescue error is:

ddrescue: /dev/rdisk4: Fatal error reading the input file: Device not configured (errno=6)

I suspect this points to a physical failure of the drive, but would appreciate any insight from this sub. The data is valuable to my friend (old photos), though I'm not sure it's valuable enough to pay for professional data recovery services.

Clarification needed re: "original form of payment" for refund after schedule change

My upcoming trip was affected by a schedule change and the reservation says I can cancel for a refund to the original form of payment.

I originally booked the trip with my credit card, but later changed the itinerary. The changed itinerary is the one now affected by the schedule change.

If I cancel, will the refund go back to my credit card, or will it be issued as wallet funds because of the earlier itinerary change?

Returns and rent day bonus caps

I have the Palladium card and made the following purchases on Rent Day in June:

  • $98 (196 bonus points)
  • $60 (120 bonus points)
  • $238 (476 bonus points)
  • $897 (208 bonus points)

Because Palladium earns up to 1,000 bonus points on Rent Day, the $897 purchase only earned a partial bonus since I hit the cap.

My question: If I return the $238 purchase, will Bilt claw back the 476 bonus points tied to that purchase? Or will I keep the full 1,000 bonus points since my remaining net purchases are still over $500?

Put another way: Does Bilt reverse Rent Day bonus points based on the specific refunded transaction, or does it recalculate based on total net eligible Rent Day spend?

Midnight rides and weekly goals

Weekly goals reset at midnight in your local timezone. If I start a ride at 10PM Sunday night and finish at 1AM Monday, which week do the KMs get logged under?

I'm guessing this has been asked before, but multiple searches weren't yielding an answer. Hope someone can help.

Question about prorated annual fees

My Platinum annual fee was recently charged and the benefits no longer work for me so I'm planning to downgrade. I know the fee is refundable within 30 days of being charged and is typically refunded on a prorated basis if downgrading the card beyond 30 days.

Is that prorated refund universal? Or on a case-by-case basis?

I'm nearing the end of my 30-day window, but would like to hang onto the card for a bit longer before downgrading to Green. Curious if anyone has downgraded and NOT received a prorated refund. Any data points appreciated.

Farmer's Dog and Rakuten

I recently signed up for the Farmer's Dog, primarily because of the generous $50 signup bonus through Rakuten.

Unfortunately my initial box had delivery issues, and in the process of getting a replacement sent, customer service went above and beyond and decided to refund my order without asking. Typically I'd be thrilled, but in this case I'm concerned this will show up as though I cancelled/returned the order and make it ineligible for Rakuten cashback.

Any similar data points out there to know what to expect or how to handle this?

I canceled my T-Mobile Home Internet service in mid-March. I was advised that the cancelation would be complete at the end of my billing cycle in early April. I paid the bill, which included charges for service thru the end of the billing cycle.

In April I received a new bill charging me a second time with a pro-rated amount for service from mid-March thru early April. I've contacted T-Mobile twice and they refuse to correct the error.

Now preparing formal complaints for the FCC and State Attorney General. Will not make the mistake of dealing with this company again.

I've been riding a Blue Competition Cycles RC8 for more than a decade now, doing my best to ignore all the fancy new gear. After a collision with a pickup truck, I find myself in the market for a new bike and need to research options.

What's your favorite, unbiased source for learning about what's out there and what's good? (carbon road bikes)

So I'm 2 hours into a 4.5 hour flight and the passenger in front of me in 2F has been literally shouting to his seatmate since takeoff. Noise canceling headphones cannot compete.

Have any of you ever complained? If so, how did you handle it?

I'm not usually that guy, so curious if my instinct to just grit my teeth and endure is the right one.
