Can’t be a conductor just yet, what other NJ Transit jobs can I apply for to get my foot in the door?
For most of my life I’ve wanted to be a conductor for NJ Transit. Don’t laugh, the job just makes sense in my brain, good benefits and pay, they spell the job out for you. It’s literally just, “Are you not a moron and don’t do drugs?” Applied in the paper days, went nowhere. Applied over Covid and took the tests online but failed. Last year I applied again, took the tests in person and passed, passed all my interviews, I was on my way to a new life. Then I’m filling out the background check and volunteer my less than immaculate driving record. They call me on the phone minutes after clicking Send and withdrew my application. Saying my driving record needs to be clean for 10 years (And it’s only been clean for 7 -___- ). I really can’t sit around waiting to apply to be a conductor again. I need to make a plan for now. What jobs in NJT are there where anybody can apply and if you got what it takes then they take you? Similar to conductor or the locomotive engineering programs, but I guess not directly controlling the trains, as FRA policies state.
For my EDC (Half kidding half serious based on the price)

How to fix new windows myself
Hi everyone, so I live in a very old walk up apartment. After years of asking, my landlord finally replaced the old windows. But the people he hired are goobers and I just want to buy whatever it is they use to seal the windows. I’ve got hot air, cold air, rain, bugs, noise trickling in. And I just want to do it myself. Please someone just tell me what to scoop from Home Depot and I’m gonna go around doing everything myself. Photos are also a bonus, thanks!
Novice Taking my Complete Course today in NJ
Taking the complete course today at RTSP to hopefully qualify for CCW and then apply. What can I expect in the class and the range test? I am a novice, I’ve taken my gun to the range maybe 5 times. I felt like I needed more practice before, so I went to the range yesterday and shot 100 rounds real quick. Fairly accurate at 3 yards and 5 yards. 10 yards still on target but more random grouping, 15 yards I was low on ammo so I didn’t try much but naturally not as accurate. At one point an RSO critiqued my grip and told me to change it like him. And after that I felt less sure and now I’m in my head that they’re gonna just say FAIL and I wasted $250. TIA
EDIT: Ended up finding a video on YouTube quickly going over the NJ complete course and I’m definitely overthinking it. Just stay in the silhouette. I was thinking it was like “Hit the X now, Hit the head now, Hit Zone #8 now”.
Final Edit: I PASSED! 48/50
35/M/Central NJ
Hey gang. Looking to maybe make a friend? I like well made movies, music from Springsteen to Menzingers to anything hardcore. I like watching hockey, I used to play a little. I like MMA in the sense that I train, but don’t really watch on tv. I’ve played in bands over the years but currently just working and raising my kid. On the political spectrum, I hate fascists if that helps? I work near Asbury Park, NJ. Maybe grabbing coffee or a beer in the afternoon with someone would be cool.
