Lumisource Electra repair

Lumisource Electra repair

Has anyone replaced the driver board in their Electra? I just found an Electra Skull at the thrift, but the high voltage transformer output is toast.

Picture is not mine : (

I can either find a working donor Electra base or follow Google AI instructions and DIY a new one with a ZVS driver board and a flyback transformer.

Anyone try this method to repair their lamp?

Check those unused electronics!

Kindle Keyboard that I hadn't used in a few years was showing some swelling and this is what I pulled out of it. Originally only 1/8 inch thick, the battery is now over 1/2 inch.

Lower transmission cable bushing failure

After parking my '09 I was moving things at the tailgate and the truck started rolling away from me.

I was able to hop in and stop it before hitting anything. When I tried to start it up I noticed the truck was now showing that it was in Reverse on the dash, there was no response from the starter and the shift arm was completely free flopping around with no resistance.

I checked under the truck at the transmission and the shift cable bushing was completely gone and the cable end was disconnected from the shift lever. What really surprised me that when this failed the truck switched itself from Park to Neutral. If I hadn't still been standing next to the truck this would have been way more expensive. PSA - Use that parking brake.

I temporarily looped the end of the cable over the shift lever and was able to get it back into Park, started it up and limped down the street to the nearest auto parts store. Dorman 14092 replacement bushing for $15 and I am back on the road.

Elder Soares repeats the mantra of the youth being preserved for the last days

From the church news Release:

Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints met with young single adults in Quezon City, Philippines, and answered questions about faith in Jesus Christ, hope, enduring life’s trials, and other concerns important to them during a special devotional held on May 23, 2026.

“The Lord has preserved you to come forth at this moment in the history of the world because you are capable of facing the challenges of our day,” Elder Soares taught. “Can you see how precious you are and how deeply God trusts you? He sent you here at a time when we are helping prepare the world for the Second Coming, and He has prepared you for this sacred responsibility.”

“The Lord brought you to this moment in history because you can overcome this and many other challenges of our era,” he emphasized. “You are prepared. You are gifted. The Lord has prepared you for this moment in history.”

The same ideas were presented to me over 30 years ago. I guess they can keep repeating this until the 2nd coming. Whenever you were born, that is when God wanted you to be born. You were saved and prepared to be born whenever and wherever you were born. That makes you so special!

Teen "Modesty" and Garments

I was asked help to chaperone a stake dance recently and during orientation we were told not to police how the kids were dressed, encourage them to have fun and to keep the activity safe. A far cry from the dance card interviews and duct tape used to cover tears in girls jeans I witnessed when doing the same thing years ago.

Great. Glad to see some progress.

This was an outside dance at the stake pavilion on a night with great weather, yard games, snacks, dancing and other activities.

While walking around I noticed that more than half of the girls were wearing short shorts, many mid thigh or higher. Hardly a single girl in the knee length shorts that would have been the absolute MINIMUM in the past. There were also a few tube, crop and tank tops.

This got me thinking about how when my kids were small this stake would constantly push to the primary, youth and us parents about how all the kids should be wearing modest clothing (ie temple garment covering) now, so that when they get endowed it wouldn't be a shock or a tough transition for them. This was constantly taught as an important "Modesty" principle.

Now that the FTSoY guidelines are less specific and enforcement is gone the kids seem to be dressing comfortably and all the previous guidelines are out the window. How will these teens react to the expectation of 24x7 garment wearing when they go through the temple in a few years?

Is the church betting that enough will go on missions and that a year and a half of missionary clothes will be enough to reverse the current trends? Or have they not only lost the plot with the adult women (as seen with the massive demand for sleeveless garments) but the next generation will be even less willing to follow the church clothing standards?
