[HIGHLIGHT] The best punt out of a mixed-bag for Vikings rookie punter Brett Thorson. The Georgia alum hits this one 50 yards and near the sideline on a 4.6s hanging spiral.
In the other two punts from Thorson, one was a directional situation that he hit a bit short and the 2nd was an outkick that the returner fair caught for reasons that can only be described as "its the preseason."
What is most important is the lack of a major miss hit. Solid day for the rook in his first game action.
[HIGHLIGHT] Corey Bojorquez hits a 51-yard spiraling, 5.2s hanging punt near the sideline. A great effort from the Bears jammer allows this ball to be returned, but its still a fantastic punt from the best leftie in the league.
Miss me with the Browns related jokes here. Is Cleveland terrible? Yes. Will they punt a lot? Also yes. Quantity is not quality. Bojo is an underappreciated great punter and would be recognized as such if he played on an NFL team.
[HIGHLIGHT] All-22: Michael Dickson takes advantage of an inexperienced returner cheating too far across the field. An excellent play from the All-Pro and SB Champion, this one is worth a deep dive. Thoughts below ↓
This punt is a case of an experienced punter capitalizing on a young returner. When the ball is kicked, Traeshon Holden is about 4-5 yards outside of the hashes. Most returners stay within the hashes until the snap and this is exactly why.
I love Dickson for many reasons but one of them is that he kicks a beautiful louis ball. This punt, however, is not any ordinary louis ball. Notice how Dickson is showing right pre-snap? Holden certainly did. Dickson opens with his jab step and first full step to the right before resetting to the left. That is hard. Like really hard. Its one thing to show right and have the jab step be to the left. Its another to show right, open right, and switch mid operation and successfully hit the punt. Its the little things that separate the good from the great and this is an example of that. Aussie punters are like black girls on the dance floor, they just do it better. Holden cannot get a beat on this at all. He's cooked before he has a chance to do anything.
This is also one of the few instances where less is more. Dicko hits this one with just 3.8s of hang, but the lack of hang keeps Holden from being able to field this ball in the air. Low punts are good when its utilized to keep a returner away from a ball. Additionally, this one is dropped at the 5, buying the coverage team a chance to converge and avoid a touchback.
Now, Holden fielding this ball is an unforced error that he just did not need to do, but, if he does not, this ball is downed inside the 2. Its a masterclass job by one of the best punters in the NFL. Dicko is elite!
Also, for the Seahawks collectors out there, I recently had the chance to get a game worn Dickon helmet from the 2020 season. Can't wait to show that one to yall when it finally makes it here!
Its just Preseason Week 1 but that Big Dickson Energy is already hitting 🔥🔥🔥
[HIGHLIGHT] Michael Dickson hits a spiraling, 51-yard punt into the sideline chalk to pin the Cowboys inside the 20. Excellent punt!

A challenge problem on repunits for my HS students - looking for feedback
Hey all, I am a first year math teacher looking to build challenge problems for some of my high school students to work at. I am trying to create ones that, sans notation, are solve-able by entry-Algebra students. This one is on repunits. While I am certainly not the first to consider this problem, I did write this from scratch.
As you read this, does the wording confuse you? How accessible is it? Too scaffolded for students or not enough? Appreciate any insight!

In Defense of the Jaguars Colour Rush Jersey: An over-hated and under appreciated jersey that fell victim to it's circumstances (scroll)
Note: I wrote this up for r/uniwatch but thought that this sub may have an interest as well.
The Jaguars gold colour rush uniform is one that elicits visceral reactions. For many, a negative one. Unfortunately, that reaction killed a uniform that had immense potential after being worn just twice. The Jags wore these in 2015 and 2016, both against the Titans on Thursday Night Football. The former saw them win 19-13 while in the latter they lost 22-36. That was it. These jerseys got boxed up, sold off, and that was that.
Pictured:
To aid visually, I have included photos of a few of my jerseys. The 5 is a Bortles Nike Vapor Limited retail jersey, the 19 is a game used Brian Anger on the Elite-51 chassis from 2015. The last is a game used Johnny Hekker from 2017 on the Vapor chassis, the first year that it was introduced.
What Went Wrong:
Many of the issues that these jerseys faced was not the fault of the jersey. It was at this time that the Jaguars were wearing their infamous two tone helmet. This helmet deserves praise for daring to be different but ridicule for a failed installment. The fade was much too abrupt and utilizing gloss and matte together was criminal. Additionally, the pants they wore in each of those Thursday contests were matching gold. It was simply too much. Had the Jags paired the jerseys with white or black pants and a single colour helmet in either black or gold, the gold jersey would have popped instead of assaulting the eyes. Other teams have corrected this mistake since. The Bills beloved red tops began getting paired with white pants in 2024 instead of the mono red they had worn under colour rush. It worked. These gold tops never had the chance.
In 2015, Nike was still utilizing the Elite-51 Chassis. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this terminology, please watch the 3-part series Jerseyhead U created a few years back. This chassis was an improvement over the Reebok era jerseys due to its lightweight and breathable cordura. Unlike the heavy Reebok tops that held in heat and moisture, these Nikes wicked away water and allowed for airflow while being tight against the players body. Aesthetically, however, they were a downgrade.
The Elite-51 chassis (and speed machine for select teams) had nylon mesh paneling around the waist/stomach, sides, and nameplate areas. This was a distinctly different style of fabric from the cordura that made up the chest and back plate of the jersey. On many colours of jersey, this was not an issue. Dark and white jerseys worked fine, but on light coloured jerseys, they had two downfalls.
- Stadium light refracted differently off the mesh and the cordura. For a day game, this was of little consequence but was much more noticeable at night under the bright white stadium lights.
- Water would wick off or easily wring out of the cordura while it would soak into the mesh. This led to an awful look for players as the game went on. Sweat was not kind to the looks of these tops.
Both of these issues combined for a terrible, discolored look as the game progressed. Simply not good.
Contrast this with the Vapor chassis that Nike rolled out in 2017. Gone was the mesh paneling, replaced instead by three sewn panels of cordura, each with holes punched out for breathability. Nike was able to create a jersey that had all of the same features of utility, while losing the discoloration that came from using multiple styles of fabric. This can be seen on the white Hekker. I have included a close up shot of the two styles side by side at the end of the slideshow.
How Could These Have Been Saved?
As I touched on above, these gold tops would have looked much better if they were paired with white pants and a solid colour helmet, preferably black or a dark, metallic teal (what Jax used prior to their rebrand in 13). The vinyl on the shoulders did them no favors as it created a glare from the stadium lights. That said, there is one other important note that cannot be over-emphasized:
These gold jerseys needed to be worn during the day with natural lighting.
The stadium lighting made these look far more mustard, puke coloured if you will. Look at the contrast in the photos that I included. Under the sunlight (warm lighting), these things pop. They actually look golden, perfect for underneath the Florida sun. A good example of the effect of sun can be seen with the Rams last tops. Look at the 2021 Divisional Playoff game in Tampa vs under the lights at home. The stadium lighting mutes the colours, taking away their shine. These gold jerseys would have been excellent on a more modern chassis for a 1 PM kickoff in September.
Will We See These Again?
Probably not, and that's a shame. I do believe the Jags could roll another gold top out down the line but it will be some time. The reaction to these gold tops was so strong that they were put away before they ever got the chance to show what they could be. A lack of team success did not aid the cause either as the Jags went just 8-24 from 2015 to 2016. As we have seen with the creamsickle Buccs, time heals the wounds of losing, but how long is needed?
Personally, the gold Jags unis will forever live on as one of my favorite uniforms. I feel fortunate to own one of the few that saw the field (and from a great punter). I hope that after reading this, you will want to see them on a field in Jacksonville in the future as well, under the sun the way God intended Florida football to be played.
Thanks for reading!

[HIGHLIGHT] The Browns cap off a perfect 14-0 regular season with a 49-7 trouncing of the Buffalo Bills in the AAFC Chamionship game (1948)
I went looking for this after making my post earlier on the Browns. I shamelessly took this from YouTube.
This game was played in Cleveland. The Bills did not score until the 3rd quarter when they were down 28-0. Bills QBs combined to go 11-36 with 104 yards, 1 TD, and 5 interceptions. Oof.
It is almost a certainty that the Cleveland Browns will have an all time losing record at some point this season - just the 2nd period in Browns history this has happened.
The Browns enter this season with a 567-560-14 record (584-582-14 all time including 17-22 playoffs).
That alone, however, is not why this is so interesting or funny (which it absolutely is).
Last off season, the NFL voted to incorporate records from the AAFC into the record books. This moved Cleveland from a then 515-544-11 all time record to a 562-548-14 record. The Browns went 5-12 this year, getting them to that 567-560-14 mark they sit at today.
Interestingly, the Browns had an all time winning record from their NFL inception in 1950 up until 2016 when they lost, in prime time on TNF, to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 10, 7-28. For those of you who are too young, just didn't bother watching that dreadful, 1-15 Browns team, or are a Browns fan who has blocked that three season stretch from memory, you have missed little. The Browns were over matched, the one highlight being a touchdown from Cody Kessler to Seth DeValve. It is so perfectly Browns for the one prime time game of the season to be the shrine to the fall of a once great franchise, against the team that was taken from them. Also in poetic fashion, of course the next game was against the Steelers, a 9-24 thrashing by Pittsburgh to drop the Browns below .500 for the first time ever and 0-11 on the season.
-Until the NFL added the AAFC records. The 1946-1949 Browns went 47-4-3 including a perfect 14-0 in 1948 regular season. They capped off that year with a 49-7 trouncing of the Buffalo Bills in the AAFC Championship, one of the 4 championships they won in those 4 years (5-0 in the AAFC playoffs overall). Those 4 beautiful years of dominance by Paul Brown's Browns gave today's Browns just enough cushion to hold onto that sweet all-time winning record once again, albeit likely just a short while.
That brings us to today; the Browns sitting at 567-560-14. For those who failed math in school, that's 7 games above .500 all-time. With the 2026 Browns playing into yet another rebuild with a starting QB room that scares no one but a masseuse trying to make an honest wage, the outlook of dropping under that .500 mark quickly looms large. They begin the year with Jacksonville and can hit .500 all-time in Week 7 against Tennessee, both being former AFC Central rivals who have more recent championships of the Browns division despite not participating within it since 2001. Should the Browns start the season 0-7, their first opportunity to hit 567-568-14 will come against, you guessed it, the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 8.
Some stories (jokes) just write themselves.
