Did any non American applicant receive a Bill C-3 citizenship-certificate surrender or review notice?

I’m a journalist researching about Lost Canadians. I am looking for people who received proof of Canadian citizenship after Bill C-3 came into force, but were later contacted by IRCC and asked to surrender their citizenship certificates while their files were reviewed, but from non Americans.

Much of the public discussion so far has involved Americans. I’m trying to establish whether similar notices were sent to applicants of other nationalities.

I would like to hear from you if:

  • IRCC issued you a citizenship certificate under Bill C-3;
  • you later received a subsection 26(1) surrender, suspension or review notice;
  • your certificate was later reverified, cancelled or remains under review; or
  • you received communication saying a Canadian passport was no longer valid.

Please comment below or send me a private message. An initial conversation can be off the record, and I will not publish your name or personal details without your clear consent.

For clarity, I am looking specifically at the review of citizenship certificates issued after Bill C-3—not general citizenship delays or files referred to IRCC’s Program Support Unit.

For context, I have written about Bill C3 issues: https://newcanadianmedia.ca/american-families-stuck-in-limbo-citizenship-applicants-caught-in-irccs-black-hole/

Journalist seeking people who received IRCC citizenship certificate review or surrender letters

Hi everyone,

My name is Shilpashree Jagannathan. I’m a journalist researching a possible story for The Walrus about people who received Canadian citizenship certificates under Bill C-3 and were later asked by IRCC to surrender them or told their applications were being reviewed again.

I’m particularly interested in speaking with people who submitted documents from official sources—such as provincial archives, vital statistics agencies or civil registries—but were later told that their evidence did not come from an “original source authority.”

I would also like to hear from anyone who:

  • received a Canadian passport after getting the certificate;
  • had different results from relatives who submitted similar records;
  • was preparing to move, work, study or travel in Canada based on the approval; or
  • has received any explanation from IRCC about what was considered wrong with the documents.

You can send me a Reddit DM or email me at shilpashree.pds@gmail.com.

I will not quote your posts or messages without speaking with you and getting your permission. The Walrus generally prefers sources to use their real names, and its fact-checking team may later contact sources to verify quotes, timelines and documents. I will explain all of that before any interview.

Canadian Hindu temple marks 50 years after beginning with basement bhajans

I reported this story about Hindu Samaj of Hamilton & Region in Ontario, Canada.

It began with a few families gathering for bhajans in a basement, later became a temple, was burned down after 9/11, and rebuilt with community support.

It made me think about how many diaspora Hindu temples began in homes, basements or rented halls before becoming places of worship and cultural memory.

Do others here have similar stories from their communities?

Has anyone else changed what they cook because of Hamilton grocery prices?

Has anyone else changed what they cook because of Hamilton grocery prices?

I recently saw tomatoes at $3.99/lb at Food Basics, and it made me think about how grocery advice like “just shop around” doesn’t always work in real life. It assumes people have time, a car or easy transit access, and the flexibility to change what they cook based on whatever is cheapest.

For people cooking for families, or cooking specific cultural foods, a cheaper substitute isn’t always really a substitute.

Curious how others in Hamilton are dealing with this. Have grocery prices changed what you actually cook at home — not just what you spend?
