Splatoon Raiders Previews

IGN - Splatoon Raiders Preview: Turns Out It’s Kind of a Roguelite

>I didn’t know what to expect with Splatoon Raiders, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a good time. It can be breezy, it can be challenging, it can be everything in-between. I’m kind of shocked that it’s basically a roguelite, but it works real good. Turns out all a squid kid needs for a good time on the Spirhalite Islands is a treasure to hunt, and a robot to hunt it with. Not bad, considering it starts with a helicopter crash. But bring some friends if you can. It’s better when you’re all spilling some ink together. Maybe the real treasure is the friends we made along the way?

WellPlayed - Splatoon Raiders Preview – Seasoned Salmon, Solo

>I’ve been hanging out for Splatoon Raiders since it was announced in June last year, and after this taste test, I’m even more keen for this game than I was before. As a bit of a diehard salmon runner, I can’t wait to see how the customisations, weapon levelling, and difficulty options interact with and transform Salmon Run strategy, and I’m counting down the days until release.

The Sixth Axis - Splatoon Raiders Preview – No multiplayer? no problem

>After Splatoon 3, Nintendo needed to put a fresh spin on the series for whatever came next, and Splatoon Raiders is exactly that. There’s a lot that feels familiar in how it plays, so I do wonder if it will still feel totally fresh once you’re half a dozen hours deep, but the added mix of abilities, progression, the more grounded feel to the world, and co-op through the story are great changes.

CGMagazine - Splatoon Raiders Hands-On Preview: Chaotic Gameplay, A Fresh Location, And Friendly Vandalism Are Here!

>Splatoon Raiders brings everything Splatoon has to the forefront of its systems. Charm, hilarious puns, an endless mess, and challenging encounters await players daring enough to take up residence on the Spirhalite Islands. With the move (and exclusivity) to the Nintendo Switch 2, Splatoon visuals have vastly improved, and I was even able to notice some of the wear and tear on background glass, the Hideout Ship and the Exploration Bot that helps you dig up treasure. Nintendo pulled out all the stops for Splatoon Raiders, and the worst part is that there are still another three weeks until it launches on July 23. At least I know what I’ll be doing then.

Checkpoint Gaming - Splatoon Raiders Hands-on Preview – An island adventure

>There is a lot to look forward to in the full release of Splatoon Raiders. I only got to have a look at a small selection of the Style options during my preview, and as a big fan of the fresh fits found in the series so far, I can’t wait to see what other outfit pieces will be on offer. I’ll definitely be letting Frye yeet me miles into the distance in the near future.

Vooks - Hands on with Splatoon Raiders – Preview

>Splatoon Raiders so far seems like a good change of scenery. It’s another opportunity to enjoy the world of Splatoon without needing to jump into an online session. Before the end of the month, we’ll get to see if the series is still staying fresh.

Gamereactor - Splatoon Raiders - Video Preview

>Perhaps it becomes more complex and pleasing to the eye after a while, but for now, only the ink itself and the characters, whether good guys or bad guys, fully convinced me visually.
However, gameplay is king here, and the very engaging, mechanically deep, treasure-hunting loop Splatoon Raiders offers could very well catch me and hook me for the whole summer and beyond.

Polygon - After 1 hour, Splatoon Raiders feels like Nintendo's Borderlands

>Nintendo is pitching this as a single-player version of Splatoon first and foremost, not as a solo mode tacked on to a long-tailed multiplayer service. The missions I played reflect that, offering a level-based campaign that feels perfectly substantial as a compact standalone game. For those who feel overwhelmed by Splatoon 3’s wealth of content, it might be a less intimidating way to get a feel for the series. No matter how it turns out, I wouldn’t be surprised if its buildcrafting ends up having a game-changing impact on Splatoon 4. The tinkering is too good to leave on the sidelines.

Shacknews - Splatoon Raiders is a fun PvE twist on the franchise

>Splatoon Raiders feels like a refreshing new take on what has quickly grown into one of Nintendo’s biggest franchises. After three straight installments that are more or less hitting the same beats, I’m excited to embark on this inky new adventure.

Metro - Splatoon Raiders Switch 2 preview – ink-redibly familiar

>Splatoon 3 was already woefully lacking in new ideas and unless Nintendo’s hiding anything (there is a Splatoon Raiders showcase airing as this preview goes live), Raiders looks to be just as safe and conservative. Spin-offs can often be a good place to experiment with riskier ideas or break away from an established formula. Raiders seems uninterested in either, which on one hand makes sense (don’t fix what isn’t broken) but it’s still disappointing to see Splatoon, which was so new and exciting when it debuted in 2015, become so rigid and unambitious. Ideally, Raiders is but a stopgap while Nintendo works on a more ambitious Splatoon 4, although the last Nintendo Direct made no mention of one for 2027, so who knows how much further off that’ll be.

Yahoo tech - 'Splatoon Raiders' hands-on preview: Nintendo's new looter looks like the closest thing it has to 'Borderlands', 'Destiny' or 'Diablo'

>Nevertheless, I felt myself getting hooked on Splatoon Raiders' loop the more I played. Did that have more to do with the almost inherent addictiveness of looters as a whole than anything this specific game is doing? Maybe! But Nintendo's latest seems to get at what makes these kind of games appealing. It looks to be a meticulously designed carrot on a stick, a game for people who want to run around, chase the shiny things and make the numbers go up. We'll see how well the full game holds up when it releases next month.

Gamesradar - After 2 hours, Splatoon Raiders is better played with friends than going solo

>Nintendo may be marketing Splatoon Raiders as a single-player game, then, but in reality it's a co-op horde mode with some light narrative wrapping. While it may be mismarketed so far, the core Splatoon mechanics still feel utterly brilliant, making the simplistic act of swimming, leaping, and shooting predictably enjoyable. With a Splatoon-focused Direct airing today, there's still hope for a little more depth to be discovered at the bottom of this ocean-set offering. Yet, thanks to this demo's overly simplistic series of shooting galleries, I'm left wondering if Splatoon's true tentacle-stretching innovation is being saved for the next numbered sequel.

AnimeNewsNetwork - Splatoon Raiders Is Looking To Be A Great Single Player Experiance

>I will be honest, I was a little worried originally checking out this preview since I don't have a lot of experience with this franchise. However, playing this game immediately made me a certified fan that is going to be picking up this game day one. It was clear based on the preview that Nintendo has a lot of faith in this game and were willing to go the extra mile for us to get the full Splatoon experience. I was even able to check out a special art room where I could make my own Splatoon art with paint filled water guns! Truly a great experience for what I hope will be an amazing game.

VGC - SPLATOON RAIDERS FEELS LIKE THE SINGLE-PLAYER SPIN-OFF MY FAMILY HAS BEEN WAITING FOR

>For now though, I left the session itching to play more of Splatoon Raiders, and that’s generally a sign that it’s doing something right. As long as that initial hook continues throughout the course of the adventure, and as long as it continues to carefully walk that tightrope between challenge and frustration, this could just be that game needed to introduce Splatoon to a new single-player audience.

by Jay Peters and Tom Warren

>Xbox is closing down Ninja Theory, the studio behind the Hellbladeseries, a source tells The Verge. Staffers were told on a call on Monday about the closure, but they are hoping the studio will find a buyer. The closure comes as “several” Xbox studios at Microsoft, including Compulsion Games and Double Fine, are in “active negotiations” about spinning off, Bloomberg reports.
