You VS the guy she tells you not to worry about 😅

I’m not comparing equipment, but I’m definitely comparing equipment.

Entire family made a huge mess and laughed all of their trash after parade

Pretty frustrating - family with children left all their trash on the curb.

JS8WEB Improved - Looking for testers and feature ideas

I've been running JS8Call and wanted a better web UI experience, so I forked js8web and spent some time cleaning it up.

What I fixed:

  • TX messages now show the actual text transmitted (not just "Transmitted frame")
  • Frequency displayed on TX entries, same as RX
  • Callsign filter tabs now actually filter (was a JSON serialization bug)
  • New callsign tabs auto-activate and deduplicate
  • Mobile layout - tabs were being crushed by the chat view

What I added:

  • Inbox tab - read and compose JS8Call inbox messages from the web UI
  • Rig Control tab - change frequency (with band presets) and TX speed from the browser
  • Quick-reply buttons - configurable buttons above the message box (CQ, INFO, HW CPY, etc.) with custom labels, colors, and message text
  • callsign prepend - when you're in a callsign-filtered tab, outgoing messages automatically address the right station

Would love for folks to download it and bang on it. It's a single Go binary, no dependencies beyond JS8Call itself. Build instructions are in the README.

What other features would you want to see? I've got API access to most of JS8Call's internals so there's room to grow. Eventually I'd love to see these changes merged into PiotrTopa/js8web.

Cursor IOS app not working

I just signed into the new app and it can’t access any of the repos I have up on my computer. It knows all the repos and the branch names. When I try to send a prompt I get this error.

SOTA POTA 150 broke after 6 months

Surprisingly it’s not the telescoping antenna that broke - but the screw for the base! I know I can fix it - but WTF? And on field day too! I knew I should have brought my soldering iron.

Seiuchy CW trainer is back up (kind of) — archived copy at learn-cw.neocities.org

If you've been into CW training for a while you might remember Seiuchy - a browser-based QSO simulator built by HB9FXW that let you practice head-copying at different speeds, key styles, and categories (RST, QTH, rig, callsign, etc.). It also had a full QSO mode that would just play out a complete exchange so you could follow along.

The original site (seiuchy.macache.com) went dark sometime around 2023 and I kept running into people asking about it or linking to a dead URL.

I dug up a copy from the Wayback Machine, stripped out all the Internet Archive scaffolding so it actually runs cleanly as a standalone page, and put it back up:

https://learn-cw.neocities.org

Nothing fancy - I didn't write any of it, that's all HB9FXW's work. I just wanted it to be accessible again. There's a note at the top of the page making clear it's an archival copy and pointing back to the original author if they ever want it taken down. If you haven't tried it before, it's genuinely one of the better head-copying trainers out there. Runs entirely in the browser, no account, no ads, no cookies.

Multiband HF vertical recommendations

I’m looking to build or buy a multiband vertical - at least 10, 20, and 40 meters. I’m having a difficult time deciding on one, or deciding to build one… I’d like it to be self-supported, it will be mounted to my chimney on my roof if that matters. I’m not in an HOA or anything, but it cant look too bulky, so as much as I’d love a tower and a beam a simple thin vertical needs to be the solution. What are your recommendations? It’ll be used with a tuner as well so it doesn’t need to be perfectly resonant.

Should I spray or pull these weeds?

Southern Wisconsin - I just grew this lawn from seed (bluegrass mix) and a month in I have a lot of these. Should I be pulling them? Or is there a spray I can spot treat these without killing my young grass? Any advice welcome.

What are you rigging up first to catch fish at your local spot?

I saw this tackle kit at TJ Maxx while shopping with my wife so I had to buy it for myself 🤣. The fish shaped multitool it actually really funny - but if you had only this tackle what would YOU rig up first to catch some fish? Are you going spoon or jig head? And which plastic would you use? Really just more curious about other peoples thoughts. I have plenty of other tackle but this was just too cute to not buy.

PS what are the two black things on the left?

U-Haul antenna and portable FT-891

Yesterday I used a U-Haul as an antenna with my new FT-891 portable pack. It contains a MAT-125E tuner and I’m using a 9:1 balun with an alligator clip for makeshift antennas. It also has 12ah of lifepo4 battery power, which I estimate will run the radio for 4-6 hours.

How’d you fish these two small retaining ponds?

I have these two retaining ponds I just want to go out and fish while I’m on my lunch hour. I’ve been trying but haven’t caught anything yet.

I’m trying to figure out what the red stem plant is in the background of my tank. I was given a cutting for free from a friend and it’s grown amazingly in my low tech tank.

Also - what do you think of the tank overall? How is the stocking? Should I do anything differently?

Thanks!
