think this is somewhere in the Scottish Highlands, but I'm not sure exactly where

hi everyone! I came across this picture on pinterest and am really curious to know which landform is in the background. It looks like the Scottish Highlands to me, and being from Edinburgh, if it is close by, I'd love to go and see it in person! Anyone know? Many thanks!

Similar shows to The Last Kingdom and Vikings?

Hi everyone! I've watched The Last Kingdom and Vikings, and really enjoyed both (particularly The Last Kingdom - probably watched it through 5 times) and I'm wondering if there are any other highly rated series that have the same medieval wartime conflict vibes to them, especially if there's anything set in Scotland/UK more generally, or Scandinavian countries.

Doesn't have to be historically accurate (but ideally still within reason of feasability). If anyone has recommendations for series that also includes fantasy elements, that would be cool, but I'm also interested in non-fantasy series too.

Many thanks!

did the lab miscalculate my testosterone: free testosterone ratio?

Hi all, so I recently got some blood work done, and some of the calculations have me wondering if the lab made an error.

Most notably, they caculated my testosteron:free testosterone ratio as 0.05 (which is the same as 5% free testosterone I believe?).

However, they calculated my free testosterone as a percentage too, which they reported as 1.96%. So I simulataneously have both 5% and 1.96% free testosterone... solid.

I think the issue is that they did not convert their units before calculating the ratio? My free testosterone is measuring at 18.2 pmol/L, and total testosterone is 0.93nmol/L. If you do a ratio of the numbers 0.93 and 18.2, you do end up with a value of 0.05, but this doesn't take into account that 1 nmol is equal to 1000 pmol.

If you convert the units before doing the calculation, you end up with a ratio of 0.0196, which is 1.96%, which matches with the free testosterone percentage they already calculated.

Am I missing something here? Is there something about this ratio that means you're not supposed to convert the units before calculating?

They also calculated my total testosterone:cortisol ratio as 0.001, which I have a hard time understanding because surely that would warrant me being extremely ill?

Thank you in advance!

how do I find UK Parliamentary Papers from 1929?

Hi everyone! I came across this very brief Hansard entry from 1929, where the Minister of Labour was asked to detail the circumstances in which work permits were issued to non-British nationals under Article 1 (3) (b) of the Aliens Order, 1920.

The response was that a Parliamentary Paper would be prepared to explain the ins and outs of issuing these work permits, and I'd be really interested to read it, but I have no clue how to find it. Does anyone here have experience with this?

Thanks in advance!

what documents to ask an ingredient supplier for, to verify an ingredient is legit?

Hi all, I've found an ingredient I've been hunting for (MelinOil - it's an oil soluble version of Acetyl Hexapeptide-1), but I can only find it through one seller that ships to my country.

I've never used this seller before, but they're a long standing establishment with good reviews, but to be on the safe side, I'd like to ask them to provide some documents about the ingredient, just so I know it's the real thing and not a knockoff or dodgy version.

What type of documents regarding the ingredient should I request from them, so I know their MelinOil is the real deal? A safety sheet? Confirmation from MelinOil's manufacturor (Lucas Meyer Cosmetics) that they are a licensed seller? Something else?

Many thanks!

Grandfathering of Müttererlass applications

Hi all. So in light of the recent letter from the BVA about the future of Müttererlass applications, in which the future of the decree seems pretty bleak (ie the decree as it is is almost definitely scrapped, and the likelihood of it being replaced by some other route for our case constellations is slim to none), does anyone know what the likelihood is that already filed applications will be grandfathered? Is there any law or procedure or decree that dictates what happens in situations like this?

Just as a note - I know we haven’t officially been told that the decree is gone without replacement, but it seems like the most likely option after reading what all the knowledgable folk here have to say about the letter which was recently posted

Many thanks!

thoughts on Blindern Studenthjem?

hi everyone! I'm very tentatively looking at student accomodation options for 2027, as I'm hoping to apply for a Master's at the University of Oslo (I'm just trying to get an idea for what student accomodation is like in Oslo, just in case I get the chance to study there, although I know it's very competitive) and I've come across "Blindern Studenthjem".

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this student accomodation? The reviews on google are really good, and I like how close it is to the campus, but I can't help but feel like it looks a bit... cult-y, for want of a better word.

I'm sure it isn't actually like that, but it reminds me of a Uni in my home country (St Andrews University in Scotland) which is known for having some slightly wacky traditions/parties and is associated with being a bit cliquey, and that only rich/posh kids go there - which is kind of the vibe I got from the Blindern website and social media accounts (just an observation, not trying to be rude!). I'm curious if this is the same for Blindern Studenthjem, whether in actual practice, or just how people perceive Blindern from outside perspectives.

I saw on their website that students move up in seniority the longer they stay there, and that seniority comes with additional benefits - sort of like a hierarchy, which felt a little odd to me.

I understand the rent is more expensive than other options, but all food is included in the price, and I wouldn't have to spend money on transport getting to uni, so it could have financial upsides too.

Again, please know I'm not trying to be offensive with my observations, I'm just curious about it!

I'd appreciate any personal experiences, or any general impressions you have about the place!

Tusen takk!
