I don't think I can keep my Quakers any longer, advice?
I would really like some advice and guidance. I've had my two male quaker parrots for 7 years, they're always together and i cannot separate them (not very relevant but this is just background info).
For the past couple of years, I have been experiencing depressive episodes on/off, which has had an impact on my energy, motivation, etc. I am also currently in school which has added more stress.
I hate to say this, but I don't think I am able to care for my parrots as I used to be. I no longer have time to play or hangout with them, there are days where I even forget to change out their food and water.
I love my birds so much, it would break me to give them to someone/someplace else, but I don't want to neglect them, or deprive them of a better life.
They have also gotten bitey and wont let me hold them as much over the past few years, they still act normally towards me in other ways, but handling them physically can be hard.
Mainly, I need advice on whether I should just suck it up and force myself to keep caring for them, or advice on where I could give them, and how to do that. I obviously want them to be in good care, but the two main reasons I have been nervous at the thought of giving them to someone else are:
- I love them dearly and they are happy around me as well
- I am afraid to put them in another person's care, just for the other person to mistreat them or something. Very anxious about that.
Any advice and guidance is appreciated, this is a very hard situation for me, and I really don't know what to do.
