Donald has started sending $90 to Medicare recipients (my sister got hers today). This attempt to buy votes is insulting. I plan to make a $90 donation to Amish Shah when mine arrives.

Every once in a while I read something that reminds me of a friend whom I haven't been in contact with in a long time, so out of curiosity I'll Google them. Usually I find stories about marriage or remarriage or publishing novels or retirement. Now it's obituaries.

This morning I found the latest, a friend I was very close to in my 20s, reconnected with in the 2000s and then fell out of touch with about 10 years ago. I don't know why she stopped responding to my emails, but friendships end and I feel like the best thing to do is just accept that with grace.

Would it be inappropriate to send her husband a card with some of the old photos I have of her from when we were young? I have no idea how I'd even word a condolence letter. Has anyone received correspondence from former friends after the death of a loved one? Was it weird or welcome?

(note: I have zero interest in this man romantically or otherwise and I'd be mortified if contacting him made him think so. I just want to say "hey I'm sorry she's gone and here are some photos you might like to have.)

Do all photos that are not editorial require a release?

I'm obviously new to this so please bear with me! I am trying to upload photos and categorize them as commercial, but it seems to always want a release form even though there are no people or recognizable buildings/landmarks.

Looking thru Grandma's old scrapbooks and found a photo of her friend Shirlie and a note that said she was married to a man in Louis Prima's band. Turns out the guy was Jimmy Dell who was later in a band called The Goofers. This clip is from the movie "Bop Girl Goes Calypso" that featured a couple of their songs.
