Will upgrading GV to the paid plan allow me to request tracebacks?

I tried posting this question several times on the Google Community forum, but it got nowhere.

I've had my GV number for over 10 years. It's my home number that I still use with my cordless phones via Obitalk - or at least the little box that used to be assigned to them.

I like my number, and it's been registered on donotcall(dot)gov since 2016. This does not stop the scummier telemarketers who call me now up to 15 times a day, usually using spoofed numbers.

When I filed complaints, I'm usually told by the various carriers that cater to telemarketers (*cough*sinchonvoy*cough*) that the number does not show in their system that they called me, and that I need to talk to my carrier to do a traceback.

With the paid Google Voice, they advertise 24/7 support. Has anyone ever been able to use this support and get them to do a traceback on an incoming call, to see the actual number that was used to call me at friggin' 5:30am?

With the free service, there is no way to do a traceback. I'm hoping someone here has tried to see if Google provides this service.

Telemarketer note: A practice these cornholios do now is lease a number, then use another number and spoof their own number. That way they feel they can't be tracked for a Truth in Caller ID Act violation. It allows then to make telemarketer cold calls and ignore the TCPA, as the number on the caller ID will be shown as theirs, but when complaints are filed they can say they did not make the call as per the carrier log.

Need a company to help find underwater pipe leak

We recently bought a house in Corvallis and there was a lot of problems that were not disclosed, and not found by the inspector. Long story, lots of headaches.

Anyway, there is an underground water line in the backyard that has a slow leak. We are on a well so there is no way to monitor just how much and to make things more complicated the ground here is not very porous, meaning the water never makes it to the surface but instead spreads underground about 1-2 feet down and is now covering an area roughly 50'x70'.

I dig down and hit water with no easy way to trace which direction it is coming from. I tried several tricks like hooking air to the line but since the ground is so dense it never comes up anywhere.

I shut off the water and the level goes down. I hooked a pressure gauge to the line and shut off the water and it drops a few pounds a minute. There is an underground sprinkler system back there and the box that holds the solenoids is always full of water, even when the valve is shut off for the sprinkler system - so it is not the sprinkler system.

It looks like it is a 1.25" PVC main water line and whomever installed it did lay in a tracer wire. This is not a typical plumber situation as they need to be a company who specializes in finding underground water leaks. Does anyone know of anyone who can do this that services the Corvallis area? I've been looking on Google but have not had much luck. Thanks.

Spam calls and texts from RingCentral numbers

I keep getting spam calls and texts from various shady businesses who don't seem to care about the TCPA or stop calling/texting demands.

Lately, the numbers have been assigned to RingCentral. What is your policy on people who use your services to harass senior citizens while they ignore my complaints about their calls and texts?

All the calls get blacklisted and reported to donotcall.gov but as far as the texts I can only mark them as spam and forward them to 7726.

Here's a string of texts showing a RingCentral number. They have been told to stop. The 888 number listed in all these spam texts is the Ring Central number:

Secure place to meet a buyer when selling things online

I'm selling a few things on the typical places - Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, Nextdoor, etc., but I do not want people coming to my house.

I checked with Corvallis PD and they really didn't know of a spot, although they casually suggested the transaction can probably be done outside of the building.

Does Corvallis have any designated safe spots to meet with a buyer for a cash sale, other than just meeting at a generic place such as McDonalds?

Anyplace in town to get a Walleye dinner?

I have a friend who loves walleye, but I've not been able to find any restaurants that carries it on the menu.

Does anyone know of a place that has it?

Why is Vultr protecting a major phishing spammer on their networks?

I've been filing complaints with them for most of 2026. Despite showing their IPs are getting blacklisted while this specific client continues to send out phishing attacks from Vultr servers, they continue to protect their client.

These all come from Vultr IPs. They have been sent over 100 complaints and they just ignore them or close them without anything being addressed.

Examples of the some of the spams from the client Vultr continues to protect:

Posing as Amazon Prime with claims my account will be closed unless I upgrade.
Posing as XM Sirius with the same claims.
Posing as Google Cloud saying my account will be deleted unless I upgrade.
Posing as Costco, Lowe's, CNN World News, and others.

Why does Vultr ignore this matter. This is not just a spam problem. This is an ID theft phishing problem that Vultr is not only aware of, but is allowing to continue, despite being told of the problem and sent the full spams, both directly and through SpamCop.

All of these spams come from the same client of Vultr and have the same format, including using huge portions of the same hidden text in the message body which are taken from old emails of hacked school and government accounts.

Anyone know a good attorney for rental deposit problems?

I had to pay a lot of deposits when I rented a house in Corvallis. It was a private party who was renting their house. I did sign a lease that said the deposits were refundable if there were no problems.

I was a great renter and left the place in better shape than when I moved in, she also asked if we could hire a cleaning crew so I did and even had the carpets cleaned as they were in bad shape when we moved in. I do have videos of the place before we moved in and the day we moved out.

This is the complicated part. We were month-to-month as the landlord let us stay while we continued to look for a house. I had paid the rent of $4200 to cover May 15 thru June 15th, but we moved out on May 29th and returned the keys. She promptly had it rented and even though I was technically the renter thru 06/15 she had the new renters move in on June 1st, so she collected rent twice for the fist 15 days of June.

My lease states the deposits were refundable, but how long should I wait before things get complicated?  We are talking about a lot of money!

Damage deposit was $2100 - there was no damage.
Pet deposit was $5000 - also no damage at all.
We also had to pay for the first and last months rent at the beginning of the lease back in 07/2025. That check was for $8350.  That means $4175 was never used because I had paid the final month where we were only there 2 weeks.
That part adds up to $11275.00 in deposits and unused rent.

Seeing that I paid rent to cover 05/15/2026 to 06/15/2026 but I ended up moving out the end of May, she was able to double-dip on the rent as I had officially paid until 06/15 but she had already had a new renter move in on June 1st or 2nd.  I’m not sure if this qualifies for a partial refund or if this is technically a sub-lease matter, or if I am just out of luck on that part.

Not a peep from the landlord regarding any of this money. There was absolutly no damage and she knows we moved just a few miles away. I'm not sure if the 31 day rule starts the day we moved out (05/29) or the day I had paid the rent thru (06/15) as she had a new tenant in there on June 1st.

This amount is over the limit for small claims court, which is why I'm thinking I will need an attorney. Any recommendations of one local? Thanks for any info.

Fireflies aka lightning bugs?

Anyone ever seen any around Corvallis? I understand they are supposed to be east of the Rockies but I was sure I saw some in a field off of Soap Creek Road Tuesday night.

Epson PowerLite Pro 9700 UB: fix or dump?

I bought a house and the previous owner left the home theater equipment. The biggie was the Epson PowerLite Pro Cinema 9700 UB and several lamps.

It powered up but gave temp errors. When I opened it up I saw there was no bulb assy inside and the power plug the bulb normally plugs into is melted.

I worked in electronics for decades so replacing it would be a piece of cake but I'll be damned if I can find a replacement one anywhere for sale.

It looks like the IPB at https://compassmicro.com/media/wysiwyg/diagrams/PowerLite-Pro-Cinema-9700-UB-exploded-diag.pdf shows it to be the part number B0230 but that is for the whole module.

The step-down model has the wire itself marked as a B0232 at https://compassmicro.com/media/wysiwyg/diagrams/PowerLite-Pro-Cinema-9350-exploded-diag.pdf

I struck out on the google as far as finding parts. I've even looked at buying a bad projector for parts but there were none on eBay or FB Marketplace.

Any suggestions on a generic replacement? I've never owned a projector so I don't know if this is a common problem or not with these. Thanks for any info.

Do I really need a VPS or is there something else out there that would fit me better?

I'm currently hosting 8 websites, all have low traffic and are more informational and vanity sites. No databases, no ecommerce, not a lot of disk space needed.

What I do need is the ability for lots of email addresses. I've always run Plesk, which allows me to make a main email address and then create hundreds of alias email addresses that I can send and receive from, but I would only need to set up the main email address in my Outlook.

I like doing this because I track where spam and viruses come from. When one of my alias addresses starts getting junk emails I can complain to whatever company or person leaked my address out.

If I had a netflix account I would create a netflix@domain.com which would be used solely on that account. Same with my credit cards, stores, family and friends.

20ish years ago when I first started leasing, I was running things like forums and sites with shopping card software, but not anymore. I do really like the flexibility of a VPS... adding websites when i want and gobs of custom email addresses that can all go to one inbox.

But is a VPS really needed for me now, or am I renting way too much server for what i really am doing? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
