Watched Midnight Mass a few days ago.

I am so so so impressed that I have been thinking about that show these past few days.

I dont think any director ever portrayed religious fanatics in a such masterful way! Also the crowd psychology, traumas, religious psychosis and so on like I was genuinely in shock. There were so many interesting aspects of a human nature portrayed so perfectly that if I get into it this post will be scrolled down by everyone lol

Question: Are other works from Mike Flanagan more or less on the same level? Should I expect the Midnight Mass level with his other projects?

Maybe I shouldnt have started with MM because it set the bar really high.

Question for the people that work with animals - Are you constantly feeling the “risk”?

Hey hey!

Lately I have been researching zoonotic diseases a lot because I am trying to transform my phobia of rabies into education 😁

And the conversation I had with my pets’ vet left me quite confused.

We live in Spain which is considered rabies free in terrestrial animals so I thought that vets didnt take any “risks” at all. (Yes, I know all this theory but cant really apply this knowledge in my life to overcome the phobia lol).

So basically I asked him about rabies and if he ever witnessed a rabid animal in his career and he said no but also said that some vet in some province got bit by a rabid animal that had passed the border from other country and that that vet died from rabies.
Now, honestly I dont know what he was talking about because every rabies case has been carefully tracked and documented in Spain ever since getting the status of a rabies free country and such event of a vet dying from a dog bite - I have not seen it - searched it but still couldnt find the info.

However, then I asked him “So you basically always have this small risk while interacting with animals?” And he said yes because he personally also worked with wildlife and didnt have any pre vaccines.

AND that conversation left me with thousands of questions lol. If a vet in Spain says that, what happens in countries where rabies is endemic? or is very well controlled but not eradicated (like the states for example)?

Whats the daily life for veterinarians/ rescuers/ fosterers like?

Imagine you have this appointment with a dog thats not your recurring patient and you get scratched or bitten (accidentally) ?- thats what happened to one of the vets that tried to clip my beagles nails, he hates it and scratched the vet but she didnt really care at all. But we go to their clinic a lot so they know us.

Do you do followups with the animals that injure you? To make sure they are alive past the observation period?
Do you get the pre exposure vaccines on a fixed period basis and control the titres?

I am genuinely curious what a life of a vet (especially those who dont work in rabies free countries) is like?

… I dedicated my post to rabies coz its objectively the most terrifying thing you can get from an animal but the same curiosity applies to all other nasty diseases that vets expose themselves to :)

Thank you very much!!

Rabies virus - serious discussion, please.

I have a phobia of this virus that was formed when I lived in my home country where rabies is relevant.

Now I live in a rabies free country (spain) (bats excluded ofc) and am married to a guy that has never thought about this virus. His father even thought that rabies was one of the viruses babies get vaccines for when they are born - imagine how big lack of education because nobody here cares about this virus. I havent seen a single person here that cares about rabies when they get scratched or bitten by animals that arent theirs. My husband is one of those.

What I do is imagine crazy scifi scenarios as my “exposure” stories which are bullshit (even I know) thats why I go to therapy.

However, since I am famous for making hollywood movie level scifi scenarios, even when I am rightfully concerned - nobody is listening to me anymore. And I know a lot about this virus. A lot.

And Idk what comments from virologists will be on this post but you really could help me understand if I am overreacting with my husband.

We feed stray cats in our neighborhood in a little house we put in our garden and what normally happens is that my husband removes the roof (its removable) and drops the food into their bowls from a distance.

Well yesterday he decided to touch their bowls with his bare hands and eaten cuticles - yes my husband always has small wounds on his hands as hes been eating his cuticles since he was a kid - horrible habit.

His argument was that rabies virus is fragile and dies quickly, especially when the saliva dries up (he learned all this from me lol) so its ok to touch those bowls. While this is true about the virus, I am still concerned because strays bowls are a bit of a different story because there saliva dropping actually happens, often and continuously.

And today a kitten was stuck in our tree as we were taking our dogs out for a walk and he got scared so he climbed the tree and didnt know how to come down and there he was, my superhero husband again, with his bare hands taking that cat down and that cat got angry and slapped him on his hands.

He still doesnt give a shit coz he doesnt have any important visible wound and keeps saying its all my paranoia.

Thing is we are sorrounded by many people from Morroco in this neighborhood and VERY rarely but still it happens that in Spain they catch some imported animal with rabies. But my husband doesnt care about those facts he keeps saying that his country erradicated terrestral rabies decades ago and its all my paranoia and ocd.

Does the same in dog parks, plays with all the dogs all the time even those that we dont know and gets scratched frequently. And again he doesnt think for a minute that those dogs might not be from Spain mainland.

We are on the verge of a huge fight. Everything he touches after contact with strays or other dogs give me anxiety attacks and I disinfect everything like crazy.

He is saying that the goal for my therapy is for me to loosen up, not make my husband as paranoid as I am.

But tell me please, am I being paranoid about the stuff he does from pure virology standpoint? No one dares to minimize rabies risks to null due to how mortal it is but here he is my dear husband claiming that living in Spain mainland gives him a green pass to interact with every cute animal he sees.

I am not asking for a medical advice. I just want a professional to assess what I am telling here from a professional virologist standpoint having in consideration how this virus behaves.

What a hard working man he was.

Ive known Prince since I was a kid. My mums fav color is purple and she would play Purple rain a lot.

I know his hit songs and I have also listened to some of his interviews/ speeches and overall I have always thought he was a great artist.

However, today I woke up and a thought came to my mind that I wanted to deep dive into Prince’s discography.

38 studio albums.

Thirty Eight.

3 8

Damn.

You found out that you “have” to die from a ~100% fatal health condition. You can pick any disease with that mortality rate. What do you choose and why?

What’s the deadly fatal disease you choose if your fate was dying from one?

Rules:
You found out that you “have” to die from a 100% fatal health condition.

You can pick any disease with that mortality rate.

What do you choose?

Edit: come on guys, I get that you are creative with them “life” comments but lets get back to the subject🤣

I could never stay in the colony house.

Like I know that having a good nights sleep in Fromville would be hard either way but I would suffer from constant trust issues.

After that idiot opened the window for the girl monster with the flowers, I thought everyone would start second guessing their decision and fight hard to find a spot in the town but nah, they rushed back to the colony house as soon as it got repaired.

Idk why they never press this, I think almost any rational human being would avoid living there because one, ONE person loses their mind (something that happens often in From) and you are dead.

Europeans, can we sign a petition or something so that HBO drops the episodes the same time as in the US? Like why do they need a whole extra day?

I am so tired of being the last to watch😭

20 Days Post op - Septoplasty + Turbinate Reduction. ENS update. Nasal cycles.

I am posting this because I posted right after the surgery that I was having a very positive experience but what people were asking was if I had developed ENS and obviously I couldnt answer that before some decent amount of healing :))

The answer is I did not.
Some research I did about ENS suggested that likelihood of it happening increases if they CUT the turbinates out completely or a very large part.
In my case they used radio frequencies and basically burnt part of my turbinates. They burnt a big chunk of them in my case because I had huge turbinates.

What matters is whats left after the surgery. A surgeon should leave enough tissue for the nose to be able to function properly..

As I stated before I had an amazing surgeon and I would have been shocked had I developed ENS but thank God and the professionals, I did not.

But you know what I developed? PROPER BREATHING. Covering one of my nostrils to feel the pleasure of being able to breathe from another without any issue became my hobby. Seriously. I would randomly cover my nostrils to enjoy this feeling.

Also, I wanted to clarify one thing that circulates on reddit a lot - nasal cycles. When people complain that if they cover one nostril they cannot breathe through the other one some commenters tell them its okay because we breathe through nasal cycles. Which is partially true. Yes, nasal cycles do exist BUT when both nostrils are uncovered. If you check the breathing without covering the nostrils you will notice that they alternate.

However, if theres no nasal obstruction- Septum is fine, turbinates are good size - if you cover one nostril you should be able to breathe through the other. Theres no nasal cycle mystery if you cover one nostril - its the bodys instinct to go with the uncovered nostril instantly. If a nostril consistently feels unusable when the other is covered ,especially outside illness or healing its more likely to reflect obstruction than just a normal nasal cycle.

So overall my experience stays positive and honestly becomes more and more positive as I am healing every day a bit more.

Hope this helps

I am laughing so hard right now

I just realised how IRONIC the plot is.

Those poor Anghkooy kiddos thinking that Tabitha, as a reincarnation of a reincarnation of a reincarnation of their mother (there could be much more “reincarnations” in this sentence), will magically remember everything and save them.

While if neglecting your own kids, those you gave birth to was an olympic sport, Victor would run out of yellow crayons after drawing her with her gold medals.

I went to the salon with this inspo pic and I dont even want to show you what I got.

They told me my hair wasnt bleaching enough to get this red (I have dark dyed hair) but I told them to try anyway. They tried with a small amount of hair and I loved it.

But when they brushed my hair at the end of the appointment and I took a look at myself in the mirror I just wanted to run.

This is the first time I am so sad about my hair and Idk how to process.

I think I am about to cry.

Hi all,

I suffer from a phobia of rabies.

Whenever I say it out loud people stare at me coz I live in a rabies free country and all my exposure scenarios are imaginary and I can never properly explain what I am worried about. That being said, I started therapy.

So my therapist listened to me making up stories and then fighting them with scientific arguments, also laughing at my delulu self and crying at the same time coz I know my fears dont make sense but I dont know how to stop.

And she goes: “you are so scientifically interested in that virus.. thats how your brain works, you look for certainty, logic, and the fact that the incubation period is never the same, that it is such a risky virus as its almost always fatal that your brain is fascinated by the nature of this virus , thats why you research it so much but at the same time it causes fear which is common in autistic folks like you - hyperinteret turned into a fear”

So I decided to embrace the fact that I am actually INTERESTED in this virus and want to learn more maybe coz my therapist is right, my brain wants info and cannot accept the fact that besides the failed milwauke protocol, there arent and will not be other attempts.

Could you please give me info about the current situation? Are there any scientists working on this matter? Because i guess its one of those few cases where almost everyone in the symptomatic stages of the virus will agree to any experimental treatment, so experiments wouldnt be hard to conduct right? So that means that no one has come up with any great idea yet?

Is there even a hope among scientists that one day rabies will no longer be the deadliest and scariest virus?

Thank you!! I am so interested to hear everything!

Thanks thanks
