One time transfer

I am swedish and my partner is canadian, We usually use PayPal but the fees on this transfer are absurd (120-140 CAD). I want to receive 2500 CAD from her and then transfer it into in my own Swedish bank account. We both opened an account with Wise today (1st July) and we are worried the funds might get frozen/denied. What are the steps needed to make sure this transfer goes through smoothly and preferably within 7 days?

Any advice is appreciated

Checked bag with a missing Wheel

Hello

I have a checked bag that’s perfectly fine aside from a wheel that’s missing. If i simply tape the hole where the wheel is missing firmly, is there any chance the airline might not let me take the bag? is it not worth risking it and just getting a new bag?

Any insight is appreciated!

Job hunting before arrival

Hello

Just curious if anyone with experience recommends to look and apply to jobs before arriving? The current job market looks rough especially for people in my age (21) and I’m worried I could be looking for jobs for 6+ months, I’ll be arriving in Calgary specifically for reference.

Thanks !

IEC to spousal sponsorship

IEC to spousal sponsorship

Hello

I’m a (21M) Swedish citizen looking to move to canada with my Canadian partner. She is born in Canada and currently resides there. We’ve had a long distance relationship for about 3 years and she’s recently visited sweden and i’ve also visited Canada as-well. I’ve currently received my working holiday work permit and I plan to move this summer. We have messages and payments between each other since 2022-2026.

We were thinking to get married as soon as I arrive and then apply for sponsorship to not risk anything but I’m worried that might look sketchy and opting for common law is better (our relationship isn’t illegitimate and we aren’t trying to fraud a marriage/relationship at all) I am currently having a falling out with my family and would like to not have to return to Sweden at all if possible. We have all our messages since meeting still, payments of sending each-other money, pictures of the trips in sweden and Canada.

Whether we get married or wait until common law, could I apply for a 6 month visitors visa after the year of IEC ends until we would receive an AOR and apply for SOWP? I also have the possibility of getting a second IEC year by getting applying for the young professionals visa (My country has low candidates, high amount of spots)

My partner currently receives AISH, is there any way this could make them not eligible for sponsorship? is AISH only for disability and never considered social assistance under any circumstance?

What’s the best route to do this and is there way I could do this without having to return to sweden at all?

Could a family member successfully get me deported?

I am 21 and wanting to remove myself from a very dysfunctional family. I plan to move to Canada soon to be with my Canadian partner but my family strongly does not agree with this decision. I’ve been told essentially that they would contact the appropriate swedish authority (my country of origin that I am a citizen of) on the base of mental health. I’ve previously only been to a psychiatrist visit where I wasn’t diagnosed with anything but was deemed to have suicide risk. This was about 1-2 years ago. I have been more unstable throughout my teenage years but have never involved hospitals or have any record of a bad mental health aside from this psychiatrist visit. I am not diagnosed with anything and have never been deemed incapable of making legal decisions/hospitalized unwillingly.

I’m simply wondering if they’re being completely ridiculous? If they were to over exaggerate these issues could they actually get my permit denied? Could my partner’s mental issues have any relevance as-well? (their issues aren’t a part of this problem but i’ve been told they would use this to amplify their case I guess)

Thanks for any answers

Can my family get me sent back to sweden?

Hello

I would like to acknowledge that I am telling my side of the story and I may deem my family more unreasonable/wrong than they actually are. I am also not seeking advice on my life choices but rather this specific issue.

I am (21M) wanting to move to canada to be with my canadian partner (24F). I am currently about to receive a one year work permit through their working holiday program and will then either get married or wait for common law to get sponsored by my partner to stay and work in canada. I’m currently living with my family and have so for my entire life. They do not agree with my choice to do this and want me to work/study in sweden.

As of today, I’ve been told that if I do leave to Canada this summer they will try to get me deported/sent back to sweden by contacting authorities. I currently am not diagnosed with any mental disorders but I have been to a psychiatrist visit before where I wasn’t diagnosed with anything. They deemed me able to follow conversation, have rational thoughts etc but still found suicide risk. I have never attempted or engaged in self harm and I’ve also never told any doctor that I have current suicide thoughts. My canadian partner has been diagnosed with BPD and has had some issues with her mental health throughout her teenage years if that’s relevant.

They’ve told me that they would contact an authority (not sure if it would be Säpo or someone else) and tell them that I am a danger to myself and others, that i’ve run away, that I have a poor world view and distaste of people around me and also about my partner’s diagnosed disorder.

I am simply wondering if they are really able to do this and make be sent back to sweden after contacting swedish authorities causing them to start an investigation or worse, reaching out to canadian authorities etc.

Job market as someone on IEC

Hello

I am planning to arrive to Canada, specifically Calgary this summer through the working holiday program and I’m wondering how tough the job market would be for someone who’s 21, graduated high school in sweden (my country of origin) with only really a year of experience working at gym. I see a lot of people struggling with unemployment that are canadian citizens themselves so I worry how long it would take for an immigrant like me to find employment.

Any advice is appreciated

All actions required before moving?

Hello

I am a born and raised swedish citizen moving to Canada on a working holiday (IEC) visa for one year, my goal eventually is to be sponsored by my partner and not have to return to sweden. My main question is simply:

What do i need to do exactly within sweden before moving? what governments (skatteverket etc) do i need to contact before moving so i’m all clear and wont need to deal with any issues in the future.

Thank you for any answers!

Lacking information regarding a parent (IMM5707)

Hello

Wondering if anyone has had this problem with the family information form aswell. I’ve been able to fill out the first parent section but not the second. I currently have not seen or been in contact with my biological father since childhood. As of right now I only know his last name (if that’s still even his last name) and nothing else. Could this be be considered grounds to deny my application? Do i have to find out all the information somehow else or could I put the entire section as unknown and explain it in a letter of explanation.

Any insight appreciated, thank you

IMM5707e family information form

Hello

I am worried that this form needed for the family information part won’t be uploaded properly, the only way i am able to view the document and see my answers is through Adobe Acrobat (i’m using a mac) and if i try to open the document through any other means i just get the “Please wait…” document

Is there any way I can make sure this document is uploaded properly?

Iec application questions

Have now received an invitation and have some questions regarding the application

  1. Does applying with a passport ending in end of July 2027 and activating your work permit a bit later cut your 1 year visa short? I’ve renewed my passport but might not be able to apply with the renewed passport before hypothetically receiving my POE, will this cut my visa short if i arrive with less than a year on my old passport? will it always be connected to my old passport?

  2. Do digital photos require professionally taken photos by a photographer? how strict are they on these requirements exactly

  3. What are the most common ways that people usually get rejected that i can avoid?

Appreciate any help!

Chances of being picked with more spots than candidates

Hello

Just curious how strong the chances of being picked are when you live in a country that have a considerably less amount of candidates compared to spots

For reference:

I am from sweden and the pool updated today showing 68 spots left and 20 candidates yet it still shows my chances as “fair”

I’m just wondering if there is straight up a chance I could not be picked for the entire season because it’s still a lottery system

Any insight is appreciated!

IEC visa questions

Hello everyone, i would really appreciate some help regarding a few things.

I’m (21M) currently living in sweden with a pretty bad living situation meaning if i were to do the iec visa i would have no place to come back home to in sweden and would be essentially homeless. I have girlfriend currently living in canada that i want to be with and so would like to transition from the IEC visa to spousal/common law sponsorship (we considered getting married so we don’t have to wait 365 days to be considered common law but also don’t really know if that’s a valid way of doing things).

I have a few questions:

Sweden allows 2 years of IEC but you need to do it through 2 categories (so essentially first year working holiday to young professionals)

  1. Do i buy health insurance for 24 or 12 months initially when getting the POE for WHV and am i able to to activate the young professionals if a job sponsors inside of canada

  2. I currently have not entered the IEC pools as i lack the funds to apply until june 10th, Sweden currently has
73 spots and 15 candidates which makes me scared i could receive an invitation before having the 386 canadian dollars to apply, does it take way longer than that? should i put myself in the pool sooner?

  3. Does this plan of not needing to return to sweden have a big chance of backfiring? What are my chances of being able to stay in canada with my partner if we have a 3 year long relationship with lots of proof and have visited eachothers country

I appreciate anyone for reading this post and replying to my questions

Thanks
