12" singles

Can some explain this to me? New to disco so forgive my ignorance. What was the point of these? Always seems like the 12" is just a single they made 3-4x the original length.

Edit: I now know it's mainly for DJs, please stop telling me how vinyl works. I understood that. What I didn't understand was why they were so much longer than the standard single

Best hook writer of all time.

Can be someone who writes good songs overall and just so happens to have killer hooks or someone who seemingly can *only* write a hook. All that matters is if they write a damn good hook

Albums where you can tell the artist genuinely had fun making it?

Like you can just feel they were having the time of their life recording it. I good example is the NinaJirachi album I Love My Computer but does NOT need to be that style. I just wanna feel the enthusiasm.

Just letting my music library play so by no means is it conclusive (hense so many albums with a lone scribble).

Open to any recommendations!

phone based/ no wifi portable and desk setup

I have a (growing) flac collection, I have a phone and just bought poweramp bc my trial ended. I am using airpod pro 2s but also have a couple pairs of cheap Amazon IEMs that I used with an old iPhone with two Fiio KA11 dongle dac (lightning port, so couldn't use it on this phone even if I wanted to) but kept having connection issues to the point I hated using it, thus the IEMs. Where do I go from here? What do I need? What should I get?

Here are the basic guidelines to follow/ constraints i have.

  1. Needs to be phone based and function entirely without wifi (this is the biggest one) and have the ability to scrobble songs from poweramp and apple music for the time being (though will eventually only use streaming for discovering new music in the near future)

  2. I would like a desk setup to be able to just sit with a nice set of headphones or be able to use speakers. Not sure how good it can be since I'm pretty much limited to a phone bc of my no wifi rule unless theres a way to have an entirely offline PC that I copy music from my phone to while still being able to scrobble.

  3. As for headphones and speakers- I'd like to have 1 closed back, 1 open back and 1 set of speakers. For the headphones i dont want to spend more than $250 for both. Same for the speakers (unless thats unreasonably low) and must be able to use a wired connection (really dont know much about the dac and amp needed for speakers so really need the help here) I am also interested in some planar stuff bc I keep hearing so much about them but don't want it to count against the 1 headphone allotment. Also saw fiio made some planar IEMs so may get those since I have regular iem already.

  4. DACs and amps- I know I need a dac and amp for speakers but what about the phone? Is the apple one really good enough? Also been looking at the fiio echo mini to use solely as usb c dac but have no idea if they're a good choice once I get into planar stuff. id want these things to be able to scale into that and still be fine. Basically an affordable end game. idk what to even budget here. I guess $250 since thats the budget for everything else lol.

  5. Bonus points if I can have a black, pink and gold color scheme. Current phone is green, but also considering getting a separate phone and essentially turn it into a dap but not set in that and will be after I get everything else.

Am I missing anything? This thread will be my guide going forward. Also I quite literally listen to everything so versatility is key here.

I love that Olivia Rodrigo will probably have the AOTY

I used to hate on this girl so bad bro. Mostly for not knowing how to swear properly, but if it wasn’t for a couple of her songs i thought were pretty decent, I would’ve been a certified hater. The sad part is, I \*wanted\* to like her- she had some decent songs but nothing impressed me all that much. I’m glad she was finally able to convince me. I’m glad You Seem Pretty Sad… will likely be my AOTY. Truly wonderful album. While the first half is great in its own right, the second half made me fall in love with this album. I hope to hear more of a stripped back sound from her, she’s so so so good at it, better than the more upbeat stuff on this album (though, again, that stuff is great) and miles ahead of her old sound. Everyone who worked on this album should be very proud of themselves. In a few years, I think this will be one of the best albums of the decade and age better with time.

EDIT: I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT AWARD SHOWS I AM SAYING THIS IS MY ALBUM OF THE YEAR SO PLEASE STOP TALKING ABOUT THEM

should I stick with my phone or get a Dap

have an android phone and am considering getting a Fiio KA11 dongle dac for it to listen to my offline flac files but have also been looking at daps (hiby r4 and fiio JM21 to be specific) should I just get the DAP? I like the idea of balanced though have no idea if thats even worth it either. got a couple pair of Amazon IEMs if that matters at all. please help.
