First of all I hope this is the right sub.
I tried in many others but it was taken down….

Three or so months ago some of my tennis buddies went to my family pizzeria to have dinner. 
I usually give them some help during certain shifts in the weekend so I was working there.

After delivering some beers to their table I stopped for a quick chat, there was like 6 of them. Everything was chilly and friendly until my mom showed up. 
She arrived at the table and noticed the best looking guy of our group - which we obv know he is like he is very good looking, I’m not gonna deny that - and she started giving him compliments, like how tall you are, how fit you look etc…

Then she proceeded to ask him his age and he answered 31. Worth notice is that she did that in a flirty way but that’s another trait of her and another story.

She then turned her head to me, please notice that by this time all the table all my “tennis buddies” were listening to the convo all ears, she turned and she exclaimed something like:
Ohhh god, and look at you James (fake name), you are 27 and look how you are doing/your state (we use state where I come from to express someone in a bad… state, hope you can read it correctly.

So I’m bald, a bit overweight and most important it’s ages since I’m able to look at me, to hear me after a conversation, to watch at what I did and say: wow that was beautiful, you are beautiful. 

And you know these words felt like a demonstration after many years of why I did so bad in things. I realized I can’t be enough for my family and so J got to work hard outside of that.

At first it was not that hard to swallow but looking back it breaks my heart.
