Got into medical school!

My main priority is to go into emergency medicine, but I hope to subspecialise in flight medicine to become a flight surgeon, and potentially an astronaut in the end.

For anyone on a similar route, do you have tips for medical school to help me get closer to my goals?

Reflection on Edexcel Maths Paper 1 after Results day

I feel like enough time has passed and everyone's got their results.

So, coming from someone who did AQA maths, I wonder: was it really that bad?

cherry magic sub or dub?

Yes, the titular question. Should I watch the Cherry Magic anime in the sub or dub version for my first watch?

I usually go with the default of watching sub versions because I tend to find that the quality of voice acting is better, but for Cherry Magic, I've actually heard excellent reviews of both the sub and dub versions, so now I'm a bit torn, and I wanted to ask those of you who have already watched the anime.

Which version should I go for? Thank you.

Does anyone else think that they could not have survived Australian/NZ med application?

I'm just seeing all these posts of people from these areas getting like 2300 minimum, and I'm like, damn, I didn't know you were like that, people!!! In the UK, getting 2200+ basically unlocks all med schools for you and a 1800+ can still net you 4 interviews with strategic applications, but in Australia, shit like Monash uni is giving me the impression that you need to be preparing from year 7, to achieve a 2700 ucat score with all A* achieved on top of a recommendation letter from the PM, like what an immense pressure placed on the UCAT, god damn I don't think I could have survived the competition!!!

Guys is school trips still a thing in university

Idk i just finished a residential trip to scotland staying in accoms with a bunch of my friends and classmates and it was a blast, and since I'm heading off to Uni next year, I got sad, like is this going to be over, are we not going to have this anymore?? Yeah, I know in Uni you have a lot more freedom to go off on holiday, but there's something special in going out with you're whole year group in a whole new place, and I was wondering if something similar existed in Uni. Thank you.

I wish my parents were horrible or abusive even.

I know this is a common story, but I have to get this off my chest.

My parents are great. They're incredibly funny, and they're always looking out for me: they're always asking how I'm feeling, or what I want to do in the future, or how I'm finding school, and always calling when I'm not home for a while, and they always stay up if I'm out late with friends.

A couple of memories. Recently, my mum has been watching the World Cup even though she has zero interest in sports, because she was curious about what I was ranting about all the time and wanted to have something to say the next time I talked about it. Another time, my dad sat me down after I got some pretty poor grades in my school subjects (due to devoting all my time to preparing for a separate medicine admissions test), and said that they hoped I wasn't feeling pressured to study medicine, and that they'd be proud of me no matter what I decided to do in the future, and like it's not like I don't want to study medicine, but I was really happy that my parents weren't forcing me to go down that route, and that I was choosing it of my own volition. A few years ago, they stood holding my hand on each side in the hospital, after quite a serious health accident, and they stayed up all night, worried about me.

It's because of this that I love my parents so much, and I know they love me, but I've been holding something from them that I know, if they found out, would completely implode our relationship from the inside out.

They're devout Muslims, and I'm gay.

Even typing that out makes me feel like God is shining a spotlight on my head, as all eyes are staring at me, but I can't ignore it anymore. I can't ignore this aching in my head and heart by simply denying it. I am gay, and I feel such intense love for other men that it feels suffocating. Specifically, I love my best friend, and it's the best and worst thing I've ever felt. When I'm with him, it feels like I am riding high on the clouds, but it also feels like I am drowning in the deepest ocean because no one knows this about me. Not my best friend, not my siblings, and not my parents.

And it hurts so much with my parents, because I would sacrifice everything for the world for them, anything and everything, but I know I would cause them the greatest pain in the world if I came out to them. I believe that I would be disowned and shunned, and while my parents are not violent because I do not believe that they would lay a finger on me, I cannot say the same for my older brothers. Even if there's a ten percent chance that the best-case scenario occurs and that they would actually accept me (closer to 0% in my opinion), I cannot risk it, because while I know they love me, they love their God equally, if not more.

And I swear I tried so hard to believe. I was at the top of my Hifz class, first one to memorise the Quran, and I went through Alim classes, passing the exams, and studying Arabic, and I think maybe at some point I really did earnestly believe, but at this point I simply don't. I pray Salah, feeling like a complete outsider in the Masjid, and just going through the motions, where I don't feel like my body is my own because my actions and my thoughts are so completely opposite.

I wish my parents were crueller people. I wish my parents had made me hate them, because then it would be so much easier to cut them off when I'm in a safer place, but they just happened to be the most kind and loving people I know, and now I don't think there's a future where I can live out my truest life: where my parents are at my wedding, celebrating the union between me and my partner, and I look at him with unabashed love, but that's an impossible dream.

This is a bigger problem for future me, because at my age, I don't have those expectations placed upon me, but right now, I'm just sorting through my own feelings and trying to figure out any options for me, because I don't know what to do. Does anyone else feel this way? I need to know that I'm not alone in this. Please, talk to me

Favourite video showcasing TLOU P2 gameplay?

On a journey to convince my friend to play Part 2. She's someone who really only plays games for the gameplay. I convinced her to try Part 1, and she was pretty ambivalent about it. She doesn't care much for story games, I've found, but I really want her to try Part 2 because I think the combat and level design are infinitely better than in Part 1.

Does anyone have the video that showcases this??
