I have not seen many Tuberville signs in the wild compared to Jones signs

Driving through rural Alabama over the past few days, I think I can count on one hand how many Tuberville signs I have seen. Granted, I have not seen many Jones signs, but I have seen more of those. I have of course seen them in Huntsville, but what is surprising to me is that I saw a Jones sign in ruby-red Winston County. I also saw a large one in Jasper off of 9th Avenue (where there are many campaign signs during election season). Interesting enough, there were also smaller signs for the main Republican candidates, including Barry Moore.

I am trying not to get my hopes up, but maybe this will be closer than what is typical for an election here.

I wonder how many people forgo straight-ticket voting this time?

Pedestrian killed in crash on Memorial Parkway

I feel like there needs to be something put in place, such as barriers or fences, to prevent people from crossing this portion of the parkway. A pedestrian bridge would help in the long-term. I have witnessed several instances where people try to cross in this area.

Is there a modern equivalent of Data Book for Civil Engineers, Design that isn't the Civil Engineering Reference Manual?

I recently picked up a very cheap copy of "Data Book for Civil Engineers: Design (Volume 1)."

It looks to be an incredible reference that has many tables and formulas, but, the issue is, the book is from 1951, so anything that refers to code or concrete/rebar strengths is obviously out of date.

The CERM focuses on the concepts and strict code references, but this book seems to have more practical information in it.

Does anyone know of a modern equivalent of this book?

My mortgage servicer switched to Bilt. There is an option to connect to it via two different connection methods, but it doesn't work

My mortgage servicer switched their platform to Bilt for some reason. From what I found, this is usually used for rent payments. So, when I tried linking my mortgage to Monarch via Bilt, none of my accounts would connect using either connection method.

Has anyone had any luck with this? This is very frustrating.

Why can't Sleep Tracking detect how long it takes to fall asleep using Sleep Focus?

I find it quite annoying that this is not a feature. I don't see anywhere where it tells you how long it takes to fall asleep. It will tell you when you fall asleep and how long you slept.

It seems like such a simple thing to implement, but, for some reason, it is not there.

Wife is considering an Apple Watch to replace her Fitbit due to the poor implementation of the new Google Health app...which watch should she by and what are some good ways to transition to Apple Health?

My wife has been a Fitbit user since the late 2010s. She has refused to get an Apple Watch because the battery life is so short comparted to a Fitbit.

When she was migrated from the Fitbit app to the new Google Health app, she was not happy at all with the changes. So much, in fact, that she is actually considering an Apple Watch.

Right now we are thinking the smaller Series 11 (on sale at Amazon), but do any of you have any tips on a smooth transition for a long-term Fitbit user? Do any of you have any recommendations on watch model or size?

Removed expired US passport from Wallet. Can’t add new one. Apple Support was no help

EDIT: Reset iPhone and restored from iCloud backup. The issue persists.

EDIT 2: Reached out to Apple Support with new information. They said they would continue to do things on their end, but they suggested reaching out to the state department. Apparently the state department has never heard of being able to add a passport to an iPhone, and they pointed me back to Apple.

I had to renew my passport, and when I received the renewed passport, I removed the passport that I had on my iPhone and then I tried adding the new one into Wallet. However, every time I get to the step where it reads the chip inside the passport, I get a message saying “service unavailable.” I have reached out to Apple Support multiple times, and they have run diagnostics, but each time I never hear back from them.

After doing some research this morning, I believe I made a mistake. I don’t believe I should have removed the passport and the information should update automatically.

I am honestly not sure what to do at this point. I did not mention this to Apple Support because I was not sure if it was relevant. I did get a message a few days ago which said that Digital ID was removed from Wallet, which made me think that whatever remnants were left on my device were removed remotely (even though I don’t see how that is possible since the passport and other devices are within the secure part of the phone).

I almost wonder if I am going to just have to completely reset my iPhone to get it to work at this point.

I am really burned out on reaching out to Apple Support again, just for them to run more diagnostics and never hear back from them.

Any thoughts?

I am surprised Bevel doesn't pull more data from Apple Health, like hydration and alcohol consumption

I downloaded Bevel today, and so far I am blown away by its capabilities. I feel like I have a lot to learn from it.

With that said, I am also very surprised that it does not pull the data from Apple Health needed to log hydration and alcohol use. I use an app called WaterMinder that saves my water intake in Apple Health (it also has a very handy watch complication that makes logging something super easy).

I would suspect the same could be set up for alcohol consumption (even though I don't have an app that I track that with).

A project to extend a box culvert in my city calls for 7000 psi concrete for a simple box culvert extension. After one of the contractors asked if this was necessary and if they could use 4000 psi concrete, the EOR insists that this is necessary. It is designed for an HS-20 load so nothing too extreme. The culvert transverse span isn't that long either. I am not involved in this project; I just looked at the publicly-available plans for this project.

This seems incredibly excessive. The link to the drawings can be found in the comments. What are your thoughts?

I have been struggling on many fronts right now. Due to our precarious financial situation, my wife took a job several states away to bring in more income so we can pay down debt. So I am effectively a single parent.

My eight-year-old daughter, even before then, had depressive tendencies, but it got worse after my wife moved. She says on a regular basis that she misses her. We have started counseling, and she seems to be doing better. Not perfect, but better than she was.

My eight-year-old son at first did not seem to be bothered by my wife moving. But I believe those feelings have manifested themselves in different ways. He has ADHD tendencies, but in February we were put on a waiting list until June to have him evaluated. Meanwhile, his behavior at school has deteriorated, mainly due to talking when not supposed to, despite repeated warnings.

We tried a non-stimulant ADHD medication to see if it could help, but not only did not not have an effect, his behavior got slightly worse. I asked the NP for the pediatrician (the pediatrician is currently out on maternity leave) if I needed to ween him off the med. She said no, but I really think he should have. Last Friday, at after school care, he used a racial slur against a kid who has had a history of bullying him and my daughter. And today, while transitioning to after school care from the bus, the kid behind him lost her balance, and she shoved her hand into my son. My son said something extremely disturbing and hurtful to her.

This is coupled with the fact that it has been impossible to make parent friends where I live. I have yet to find a group that exists where parents can meet each other. Just today, after months of trying to setup a play date for my daugher with a friend of hers in her class, the mom told me she isn't able to set up something with us for the foreseeable future, after consulting with her husband.

I am really at my wits end. I feel like I am doing this all alone, and no one in my close circle gets it because none of them are parents of kids my age.

I am trying to model what happens if I create a 4' diameter hole in the roof of a concrete access tunnel for a new manhole so I can design additional steel to attach to the area around the hole. I created the analytical model in Revit and imported into Robot. Trying to edit any of the load cases has been impossible even after reading support articles. It seems easier in Revit since the loads can be edited there, but it is just insane how unintuitive Robot is. Unfortunately, we don't have access to RISA or anything that would be better suited for this sort of analysis.
