Top thread bunches up and tears, especially when sewing heavy layers.

Talking about a Mitsubishi DB12 industrial machine, if that matters.

The machine worked fine, and then when I got to some heavier layers it started bunching up the top thread in a way I've seen before - as if the eye of the needle is wearing it down and it can't pass properly through all the places it has to pass through, until it finally snaps.

I tried lowering the tension and that made the back of the stitch too loose, but when I tried increasing it just tore.

AFAIK it's all threaded properly, the needle is the right type, the thread is good, and I didn't change too much in terms of settings. I also know for a fact it can go through that much fabric if not more. So what's up?

I had a similar problem sometimes on my domestic machine and it drove me up the wall then, too. I don't remember how I fixed it.

P.S tangentially related - if anyone knows where to get a walking foot attachment for this thing (that ships internationally), I'd love to know.

Why is my attempt to rust-blue/black not working that well?

I hope this is an ok post for this sub.

These are a bunch of screws etc. from a sewing machine base that I'm trying to strip of rust and then rust blue.

They had rust and paint that I removed (some tiny bits of paint remained but whatever) using Backyard Ballistics' solution (1 liter water, 100g citric acid, 63g sodium bicarbonate, dish soap) until I was down to bare steel.

Then I dunked in 3% hydrogen peroxide, waited for some rust to appear, boiled for 15 minutes in tap water, repeat twice. I saw that the rust wasn't that uniform or visible really, so I switched to using a solution of 1 part non-iodized table salt, 2 parts vinegar, 8 parts 3% hydrogen peroxide which worked much better though it became foamy and it still wasn't uniform.

Then boiled for 15-20 minutes, and repeated the rust-boil process maybe 5-6 times.

However, every time I remove them from the water they have rust spots that just won't go away or convert (pictured). I want to get complete coverage before I oil, so this is an issue.

What can I do and what did I do wrong?

P.S another question: would gun oil or WD40 be better for oiling after the process is done?

EDIT: I solved it.

First I gave all the parts a shake in acetone, then carded them thoroughly with steel wool, then wiped with the rusting solution and dunked into distilled water in which I've been soaking 4-5 black tea bags. Then boiled for like 15-20 minutes, dried real quick and oiled using gun oil. It's not perfect but it's absolutely better than it was and I'm good with it. Credit to ObligationGlad7354 for the tea idea.

Ramen noodles, shrimp broth cubes, dried kombu, and dashi powder

Obviously I wanna make Ramen, but I bought these ingredients not knowing if I'd need to get anything more to make it "proper ramen" beside meat & veg. In terms of meat, I only have ground beef and tilapia filets. In terms of veg, I have green onion, probably leeks and carrots, etc.

How do I make the best ramen I can using this stuff?

Error 190 or 304 when trying to update CC, error 304 when trying to install and app

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, installing every version of Windows-10 compatible CC, completely bleaching my entire PC of any trace of adobe and then retrying, trying with a version of CC meant for older versions of windows 10, restarting several times, and so on and so on.

I download CC from their website, install, and it immediately tells me I have to update. I try, but it encounters error 190 every time, sometimes 304. Earlier I even tried uninstalling existing adobe programs and couldn't even do that, so I had to use the creative cloud cleaner.

PLEASE tell me what more I can do, cause I feel like I am being completely stonewalled. And no, I don't want to update to Windows 11, I just wanna use the language version of InDesign that I wanted to install to begin with instead of the English-language version I had, which is where this all started.

What am I doing wrong / criticisms and advice on my routine

So I never liked working out, it never felt fun or satisfying, but I recognize I need to do SOMETHING. I'm a 28 year old guy and 177~cm \ 94kg currently btw.

In the last couple of months I've mostly managed to sustain a semi-routine for the first time in years, but it's a pretty unimpressive one.

Recently I've been trying to do two workouts a week with 2-3 30-40 minute brisk walks thrown in.

The workouts go as follows, with arbitrary amounts of rest in between sets and exercises, in such a way that I can mostly do them with correct form while still being challenging -

Short warmup of 40-50 jumping jacks, stretches

- 3 sets of pullups (I've been kinda stuck on 5-6 max pullups in the first set, going down to maybe 2-3 in the last)

- 3 sets of pushups (20 normal, 20 wide, 10 diamond)

- 3 sets of lying leg raises, 12-14 per set

- 3 sets of squats with 10kg dumbbell

And sometimes sets of romanian deadlifts (2x10kg) / kegels (1x10kg)

What I described is basically the peak of what I've managed so far (recently). I don't really have a singular goal, I just want to lose some weight, not be in pain / trust my body to not fall apart, and look better.

I struggle a lot with routine and discipline, and it's unbelievably easy to give up, sometimes mid-workout. I just do NOT have the same drive a lot of people have and it is not enjoyable for me, it's 100% a chore through and through. Yes I know it's a chore for a lot of people, I just wanna emphasize I don't even really feel like it has a point. Whatever.

A big problem recently is that I've been feeling consistently weaker / less motivated in my workouts, and they become increasingly more pathetic / cut short. Not to mention it doesn't feel like I've been getting better. Why could this be? I think my diet is ok, as is my sleep. It just feels like I kinda hit a very low wall.

In general, I never "feel the burn" even when I'm training to failure, it feels like my body just kinda refuses. Always been like that, it feels like I can't truly challenge myself cause my two options are to either do what I already can or just sorta hit a block, it never feels like I'm able to "push through" physically, even disregarding the discipline stuff.

So what's wrong with my routine and what's wrong with me?

If I want to use this laundry drier motor to make a DIY bench grinder (or maybe belt grinder), how would I do it (and is it even advisable)? I don't have the first clue with wiring and electricity. What would I need to do / worry about? Any guides or tips regarding this specific type of motor?

A question about lapel mics + two options I'm considering

Energy K15 Type-C/Lightning/AUX

Saramonic LavMicro

I'm looking for lapel mics to use in an interview (a conversation with my dad, recording for posterity), but I don't wanna spend that much. These two options pictured seem like the best options so far. I should mention I'll be recording using a Canon M50 II camera, and have no other audio equipment. I'm leaning towards wired options, too.

My main concerns are audio quality / popping and other artefacts, battery life if wireless, and whether or not I need two mics to begin with. Do I need two? I'm concerned that if I use one for the interviewer and one for the interviewee, the audio from each person's speech will "feed back" to the other microphone and sound bad.

If I was using a controller, I would now no longer have an intact controller. Never in my life have I been robbed so hard.

Yes I know you see the laser a teensy tiny bit in the corner of the screen at the end. Still the only time I knew the sniper existed was when I was fucking oneshot. This was damnation shocktroop gauntlet btw.

I need some tips and have some questions about making a Skitarii cosplay

https://preview.redd.it/vw04cnag07fh1.png?width=1076&format=png&auto=webp&s=066631806b8bf61b381bee6e17483ad8a1446bde

Even though my area / country is fucking lame and I don't know where I'd use this cosplay or what I'd do with it, I got the idea of making it. I have experience sewing etc. (even thought to make the weapons / hard bits out of wood and metal, I have the means).

This would be my first-ish time, and I have a few main questions:

  1. What material should I use for the overcoat/cape/whatever it's called? The main red garment. I have a bunch of offwhite canvas I might be able to dye, but I doubt that's ideal.
  2. I got the idea to make the mask have a voice modulator, but have no idea how to deal with electronics etc. Any ideas? Any ready-made solutions for that type of thing?
  3. Speaking of the mask, any tips on that front? Mainly on how to make it comfortable / not sweaty or maybe some universal pattern to base off of.
  4. How should I handle the shoes without it becoming too bulky? Maybe just black low-profile shoes with a "cover" layer?
  5. How do I handle painting, specifically of metallic-looking parts? It's my understanding that EVA foam is the standard for hard parts like armor etc. but I have no experience working with it. I like the idea of just making them outta metal, but that'd be too hard to shape and probably uncomfortable (and heavy, unless I use aluminium).
  6. How do I securely glue EVA foam? I always like to go overkill with stuff, and I get the impression that contact cement is the standard, but that feels like it might be too weak for my taste. Maybe reinforce with a plastic welder (with staples I mean)? I even got the idea to use silicon / acrylic caulk on the inside.

Any general material and method recommendations? Things like the tubes, lights, lenses, weathering, etc. Thanks in advance.

On a side note, what DO you do with cosplays? Maybe a foolish question, but the last time I've been to a con was like 10 years ago and I didn't much enjoy it but cosplaying is on my bucket list :)

I'd appreciate it if the AI director saw us struggling & DIDN'T go "you know what'd help? 10 crushers + a boss". I guess it's to encourage you to PTFO, but it ends up being a self-reinforcing loop where you can't play the objective so you get overwhelmed so you can't play the objective and so on

yeah yeah skill issue or whatever, this just bugs the shit outta me cause it feels unfair and disproportionate. Sometimes the director just decides to fuck your shit up outta nowhere and the run's over. BTW this was after I kited them around and killed like 4-5 crushers and a few ragers too.

I'm not a new or unskilled player either, sometimes the game just throws entirely too much at you.
